Total EOIP at the moment....

We keep having power glitches so I am powering down my desktop. I will have laptop and dial up so if I lose power, I will let y'all know. Our neighbors across the street were w/o power since 3 am though. Not so nice around here. I do have everything I need to make a flan, so I am going to do that now. See y'all later!

I can't believe all the snow and ice you guys have!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: Sherry, Elaine, and Amanda - great pics!

It poured rain for hours here - temp went from high 40s to 28º. And it's still dropping. The creeks are about ready to flood again. :( We had some snow showers, but they stopped. The snow was supposed to start around 2:00 pm - so we are just sitting and waiting for the storm to hit.

Sherry and Lily - can you believe that we were going to drive over to Cleveland tonight to see the Zoo Lights??? :guilty: Needless to say, that trip has been postponed until hopefully next week.

Got the last of my wrapping done, bonuses distributed at work, waiting for newspapers to arrive, heading to my friend's house to leave presents, and then it's the dreaded housecleaning.

DD is going to some of the parents of her friends who were killed in accidents the past couple of years. She stays in close contact with several families all year long and visits not only on every holiday, but also birthdays, etc. Tonight's visit is to her old BF's family (this boy just died in Aug.) and his sister is also her best friend. Tomorrow she goes to see her best guy friend's parents. The parents have told me several times that her love and faithfulness is what helps them get through the days.

My son's Scout troop just got the most amazing card and letter from one of the local soldiers they adopted. He's from this town and is also an Eagle Scout. He sent them a small American Flag and an inspiring letter. Yeah.... it made me bawl. He said that the cards, letters, and packages from home are what keeps the soldiers going.

Nancy - I hope your DS gets your computer fixed soon. I know what you mean about boys parking their hineys in front of the video game systems....

Everyone stay safe and warm.

BTW....thanks for the Christmas picture! I did not picture you looking like that at all. I was expecting a coon cap and .....nevermind!! You have a great looking family!!

LIZ!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think everyone expects my family to look like something out of "Deliverance!!" ;) Actually - sometimes we do.... (And yeah, we do have coonskin caps - as well as fox and mink ones... ) We clean up really well!

Pam, you definitely don't wanna head to Cleveland today. The zoo might even be closed. You wouldn't believe all the closings we have around here.
Hope you can come next week. The Zoo Lights were really nice. ::yes::

And, how sweet of your DD visiting those families. :)

Sherry - I did the weather thingie on the internet a couple of days ago and decided it would be wise to postpone the trip! :earseek: I bet the Zoo is closed!!

The Pittsburgh Zoo quit doing the Zoo Lights about 3 years ago. :guilty: We love looking at lights - we did the Pitts. Zoo, Oglebay, Overly's Country Christmas, and Hartwood Acres, as well as the Canfield and Columbiana lights in Ohio.

Just popping in for a bit. I've been lurking..just not doing ketchups..sorry. Prayers and PD are out to all those in need. I'm sending extra hot chocolate to all of you digging out from under the snow. We've gotten buckets of rain today. Many hugs and love to ALL of you wonderful friends and I hope you have a WONDERFUL holiday!!

Quick hi... we watched ROTK and now I need to make the flan. I will do a real catch up later :teeth:

Good evening. Well I am officially finished with Christmas shopping and officially broke!! I don't even think I have 2 cents to my name. I took Jar to the mall to pick out something for his grandma (my mom) and he decided that he and Ethan would give her a bear, this mall doesn't have BAB so this is a Bear Factory bear...just as expensive! hehe He made her a cinamon bear, put a box in where he said "I love you" and then found him a nice sweater and pants set to wear. He even picked out shoes!! (I will admit that I helped with the sweater, he initially picked out a basketball uniform and I had to ask him if he thought grandma would want a bear with a basketball uniform on...he agreed that she probably wouldn't! :) )

I am waiting now until I know he is asleep to begin wrapping his packages. He is a little twit, so I don't want him to sneak up on me while I'm wrapping!

Weather here is weird. It was 70 degrees, humid, and then rained...tomorrow's high is 32 and precip is/will be snow (if they are right)

Ketchup:
Nancy... :( to your computer. Tell Geoff that your DISer friends miss you!
Amanda...I can't believe that snow! WOW! stay warm
Elaine..Flan? send some my way!!
Pam...your DD sounds like a really great kid! Good job to you!
Sherry...your snow pics were great too. Remind me again what the bush between the yards means, please, I'm a dork and can't remember!
Alan...good to see ya! Enjoy your time off!
Kristy...I remember ice storms when I lived in NC! yuck! stay warm and lurk often!

Gonna go and start getting wrapping material and hopefully start wrapping in a bit!

hugs to all!
tara

FINALLY!!!!! I started to finish my ketchup yesterday and a crisis erupted at work, so I had to skip it. Today was crisis after crisis and most of it is due to that lovely storm you Ohio/Indiana folks have been buried under! Fed Ex has been delayed and our Maryland customers just don't understand why stuff we ordered sent priority overnight didn't arrive. Well, maybe it's because one of our vendors' warehouses is in Indiana, another in Pittsburgh and yet another in California. Just can't get shipments cross country when the planes can't fly!!

Loved the pix of the snow! Ice makes the trees and all look so magical, but it's oh, so dangerous. Hope you all are staying safe and warm. We've had rain all day here and it's been just so nasty. Cold headed our way, but no white stuff. Supposed to be in the teens all Christmas Day and barely warmer on Sunday. This is Dave's weekend to work, so we are not having much of a Christmas. I am ringing bells at all 3 services (7, 9. & 11) tomorrow night and singing with the choir for 2 of them. So Dave will be asleep by the time I get home :( Still trying to figure out when we will be able to exchange presents!

Doing laundry now---I lead SUCH an exciting life, I know. All worn out from the last couple of days, too. Brain is mush. Sorry this is such an EOIP........

Hi to SSB! Love having you drop in !

Karen, glad to hear your fears were groundless about your bloodwork, but I hope the meds do their work and you get to feeling better VERY soon!!

Pam, high five your DD for me!! Those are fabulous grades for her first semester of college! Sorry you didn't get to go up to Cleveland for the Zoo lights--they are probably aren't visible now, since they are buried under the snow, anyway!

Boo, what time is breakfast?! I love quiche AND French Toast!! I can bring Gevalia Coffee to share!

Nancy, I hope you are able to get your computer fixed soon. Do we need to come cheetoh Geoff for you?! Enjoy your time with both kids home, in any case!!

Hope all the other sickies in your families are feeling better in time for Santa's visit. Know that you all are loved and held close to my heart always! God bless and :grouphug:

Well, I just found a new meaning for pain... burning hot carmelized sugar dripped onto a finger. I asked Luis to grab me a pot holder as my one hand was about to give out... he flipped out and couldn't find it. So he goes to grab the pan I was holding and pouring from, and bumped it so that it dropped onto my hand... then I went to bite it off (kind of stupid on my part) and burnt my lip a little.

Yep another EOIP here... my day is just not what I thought it would be. At least the flan is in the oven. Hopefully it will turn out better than I think it will. The carmelized sugar just didn't spread right due to the burn.

Ouch Elaine! I love flan. Save some for me! :teeth:

Beth, sorry to hear about the crisis at work. Hope you and Dave can find time to exchange gifts and spend some time together.

Tara, the stupid neighbors planted the bushes to keep my boys out of there yard. LOL

MERRY CHRISTMAS, ANN!!!

Elaine - sorry about the boo-boo! But what in the heck is flan? (And why does Sherry love it??????)

Well pooh - somehow the snow bypassed us! We have single digit temps - but NO snow. I don't want all of your snow - just about 3 or so inches. Weatherman says it's not looking good. And of course all of this morning's rain melted all of our snow. I'm bummed.

Beth - boo hiss on the stinky work day. And I'm sorry that Dave has to work. When I was young and first out of high school - I had to work the midnight shift for every holiday for a couple of years. That's the pits. (Although I did manage to have fun..... All within the boundaries of the law!! :))

Tara - I bet your Mom will love the bear! I bought my Mom's bear an ice skating outfit for Christmas. Now I have to get him something for Valentine's Day. My Mom had a fit when I dressed HIM as a witch for Halloween. She said I "confused him sexually." I told her that he was in costume.... duh....

Deena - you are tooooo right about Gunny not liking to go potty outside! But he still insists on his daily walk. Let me tell you - DS makes that 1 mile walk into a run!!! :rotfl:

Kristy - you've been having rain, too???? Are you ready for Christmas???

Well - I did zippo on the housecleaning today - so I have to rise and shine tomorrow!! (yeah, right...... but it sure sounds good, doesn't it! )

Liz is making me post naughty things on her thread - I think someone should call Santa and report her!

Evening Ya Yas :wave2:

I hate head colds. In some ways, I'd rather have the flu so I would feel justified calling in sick. As it is, I feel lousy and I'm still at work all night. Hopefully Dayquil will kick in soon. We got 17 cm (umm .. 7 inches, about) of snow, followed by several hours of freezing rain, so the snow is all shiny and crusty on top. Nice to look at but difficult to clear off the road. At least people around here have, for the most part, been well-behaved while driving. I imagine they'll finish clearing off the roads tonight, so Christmas day travel should be ok (and last minute shoppers can zip around tomorrow!). I'm going to attempt ketchup .. my brain is a little fuzzy, so we'll see how it goes. It won't be as good as all the awesome ketchup that's being going on in here today, in any case.

Deena, your boy's coats sound cute. Heck, I'd like one of those (I love Stitch too!) :teeth:

Suzanne,

JRKaren, lunches in a can don't sound really appealing to me either. I'd love to see the commercial though - heh.

Elaine, sorry to hear you got so much ice! Hope you guys are dug/melted out now. Hope the power stays on too! It'd be a chilly night to be without it! Stay warm. But (after reading a little further) not so warm that you burn yourself! Ouch! Hope you're ok.

lvs_eeyore, I'm glad your the doctor could give you some good news, and I hope you're back to 100% soon. Definitely follow the doc's instructions and take it easy this weekend though!

Pam, I hear ya about the high cost of tuition. Miami also wants me to prove I have enough money to pay for a year while I'm applying for financial aid (well, an assistantship). Um, hello, if I had the money, I wouldn't *need* the assistantship!! Your daughter is very sweet to visit everyone like that. You must be very proud of her. (And your son, too, of course!)

Amanda, glad you could stay home to work out of the nasty weather.

Sherry - a foot of snow! Yipes! Hope that your street gets plowed out soon. Sorry to hear your MIL won't be able to get in until Monday, too. That's no fun.

Liz, your neighbor sounds like a piece of work. I can understand not feeling 'Christmas-y' towards her! My great-aunt was a bit like that - we wanted to be friendly towards her but she made it really hard sometimes. Hope Greg is on the mend soon. :)

Lily, sounds like you guys got hammered with snow! A co-worker of mine was headed back to Cleveland to visit his family on his days off and was hoping for a big snowstorm (we're weather geeks, remember - heh). I guess he got his wish.

Tara, that stinks about Sears messing up the pictures. Hope you can get that resolved without too much trouble. Although pitching a fit could be a good holiday stress reliever. ;) Happy wrapping!

 for Nancy and her sick computer. Maybe Santa will bring you a new one.

Beth, sorry to hear you had some stressful days at work. Hope you find some time to relax this weekend, and that you can spend some time with Dave to get those presents taken care of. ;)

 to anyone I may have missed. I'm sorry .. cold medicine is a harsh master. Have a good night, and stay safe and warm everyone!

I've done a great job of totally ignoring y'all today ;) I'll quit now :p

Sherry, come on over for some. The flan isn't quite done yet, but should be soon. I think the caramel isn't quite right, but oh well. The recipe is an old one passed down from one generation to another (I am sure adjusted with time, but I make it how it was given to me) so I think this is the same stuff Luis' grandma would make in PR :teeth:
Tara, come here for some too!

Pam, flan is similar to creme brulee, but better ;) It is not made in individual cups and the sugar on the top isn't burnt, but baked with the custard. It is YUMMY!!!! A PITA to make though

Sorry y'all missed hte snow... feel free to come here to take some of ours!
Bethie, so sorry about your day at work... sorry our weather messed things up for y'all.

Need to check on the flan in a few... it should be done shortly :)

Thanks Ann, Happy Holidays to you too!

Elaine, hope your flan still tasted good. I don't think I've ever had any. If it didn't turn out too good, give it to me. I wouldn't know the difference.

Beth, hope you and Dave find some moments together. Sounds like opposing busy will make life a bit of a challenge. Us too. Ted is working next 2 days. He ended up working today both places. Long days.

Nancy, still hoping the computer fairy gets you the help you need. Mom made chocolate whoppers the other day. Oh they are sooo good. Ted and I just finished chocolate chip cookies and they turned out great, as we like them. I just put them up in the tins. Also made the prepackaged sugar cookies. A first for us. Those are not too bad either.

Tara, hope Jar is going to cooperate and let you wrap his stuff. You know I guess that is why we never had too many things wrapped as we were young. Santa never wrapped the stuff we got. That must be the reason. Only started wrapping as we got a bit older.

Kristy, miss you you lurker you! Hope you are finding time to enjoy your semester break and that work isn't too overwhelming.

We got the snow moved around so that we can get the cars in and out. I spent about 4 hourst out in this lovely stuff. By the end of that time I was ready to come in. I was warm, my toes started to feel cold. All of us are quite exhausted. I have one more load of clothes to toss in then I am off. The pups have been out and I don't think they ever want to go out again...way too cold for my little ones. My hairless one ran in and jumped on the bed to snuggle with DH and the electric blanket.

Went this evening to the local hiking/camping/etc. store, Apalachian Outfitters, to pick up smartwool socks for my guys as stocking stuffers. I decided that they/we all need a couple pair of those these next couple of days. Cost a bundle but I think they will be worth it if our toes stay warm.

Oh, I must mention the beauty I found in all of this messy snow as DH and I were driving to get those socks. The sun peeked out for a brief sunset. All the ice on the trees came to life and everything just **sparkled**. I had a camera, but nothing could do that breathtaking moment justice. You will have to imagine.

Stay warm, stay safe. Be happy. Good night.

You mean I have to drive in the snow to get some, Elaine? Couldn't ya just send me some? ;) :teeth:

Great ketchup, Caroline. :) Hope you feel better soon.

Merry Christmas, Ann!! :)

Pam, I'd be glad to share my snow. ::yes::

Elaine:
Me Want Flan!! Me Want Flan!!!
Sounds delicious!

Beamer - Coming from Canada - I bet the dollar adjustment must be horrendous for you. Don't you get hit with a higher tuition cost, too? I know that for out-of-state students the price is DOUBLE that of Penna. students at Pitt. :earseek: I hope you feel better. You are right - head colds are horrible.

Oh - and you are in the race for Ketchup Queen - nudging close to Liz, Tara, JRKaren, and Beth!! :cool1:
