Oh, so now we're givin' out our "vital statistics"??!! Hooo-boy!!! Ya yas, please don't pass out on me, but I'm gonna be 52 in a few months. Yep, I'm REALLY an Elder but you'd never know it. half the time I act like a silly teenager, angst and all. Happily married to Prince Charming/Pooh Bear(that's Prince Charming personality, Pooh belly) for 2 1/2 years. Yeah, I went thru 2 other guys before I finally found my frog, I mean my prince! Two kids, one of each gender, both grown and pretty much on their own--anyway they don't live with me and I don't hear from them much. They live their OWN lives

Laine!!! Why didn't you tell me you needed a recumbent bike??!!!! I have one gathering dust in the storage closet!! I would have been happy to throw it in the back of the car and drive it over!!!! We're looking for something to do for our 3 day weekend anyway!!!

Tara, youhave my deepest admiration for what you do!! That is positively awesome!! I love sign language, been playing around with it ever since I was in Brownies and we visited a school for the deaf and learned the alphabet. Sounds like you know exactly how to bring order out of their chaos and turn them on to learning!

Von, I had no idea you were a Baby Ya Ya, too!! So what does YOUR screen name mean? I figured it had something to do with you being a mom!!!

Kimmie, dear, I'm so glad you're feeling better. Would you believe my heart does things like that when I'm taking BC pills?!!! Can't figure that one out!! Yes, Nemo was SUPER, wasn't it??!!! "Grab shell, dude!!!"

Betty.......learning to ice skate on the lake at Winton Woods. Never got to Lesourdsville Lake. Field trip to Fort Ancient. Going to the Saturday night outdoor movies at GE Park. The string fountain at Kenwood Plaza.

That bike does look dangerous...but you should not be looking at the boards you should be working, now get to it!!

Kristy, Down Syndrome is a type of mental retardation but there are varying degrees. It can be very mild and the individual can function very well in society and it can be very sever where the person must have a companion all their life. It is a very wide ranging disability. Many persons with ds can go into mainstream classes and take some classes with their age appropriate peers, others cannot. DS people tend to be VERY loving and will want to hug you every chance they get. We have a man that comes into TDS and if you don't want a hug you better run!! lol! Because their tongue is usually larger their speech can be impaired. If it is significantly impaired then often times the IEP committe will decide to use sign language in addition to speech. This can help the child/adult communicate more freely and allow them to be more independent. We have several DS kids in my school and they all vary with their abilities. I'm sure in general conversation you can get information about the neighbor's child without sounding too nosy. I've found that parents of DS kids tend to be advocates for their students and vocal about what their kids CAN do and not just what they CAN'T do. There are also lots of resources on the web to give you more information on DS.

End of discertation. Migraine becoming worse, homework not done, hungry enough to eat a horse.. Where are those darn muffins when you need one!

Goodnight all you yaya's don't stay up too late tonight, tomorrow is a work/school day.

PS. Kristy, where do you go to school in NC? I graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson in 1993. (now it is Barton College..same town tho) Okay now i'm really going to bed!! nighty night, don't let the bed bugs bite!!

tara

...I'da never have figgered you as spoiled/bossy!!! You always have some of the NICEST posts!!!

okay, MY turn:
AHEM, let's see.....a "tweener" ya-ya (hey, I KNOW I'm almost 46, but I honestly don't look [and CERTAINLY don't ACT] it!! ) Marr-iged almost 20 years (on 9/10/03) 3 DS's (16, almost 17, 14, almost 15, and 8, who'll be 9 tomorrow!!) I teach remedial math to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, I LOVE Yankee candles and going to Country Craft shows (it's what I live for!!) I can count to ten in English (DUH!), Spanish, German, French, and Italian.....hmmmm, all-time fave songsters are the Rolling Stones (haven't missed a tour since 1975!) and a BIG NY-area-teams fan!! (Go Yankees...sorry, I know there are a lot of you Boston Red Sox fans!!)..."Yo tahm iz up!"

Okay, so I had to read more before i went to bed as CrazyBoutDisney decided to write more!! hehehe

Thank you for the kind words, but it is funny because I feel like what I do is exactly like regular teachers but with sign language as my mode of communication. I think it is wondeful when people learn to sign, even a little bit! I got into it because of a boy (not that anyone asked how I got into it, but I'll tell anyway!) I was in the 10th grade and their was this REALLY cute deaf boy, tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, and one day he saw me talking very animatedly with my hands. Through a mutal friend who could already sign he told her that what I was doing with my hands was not sign language. I told him I knew that and if he wanted me to sign he needed to teach me. The rest became history. He taught me to sign, we became really good friends, we dated for a while and then went our separate ways. We kept in touch for a long time, but I havent' seen him in about 3 years. In fact tonight I got a TDD phone call and by the time I hooked up my phone the person had hung up and they never called back. I wondered if it was him, but there was no info on the caller id. I then went to a 4 year school in NC that taught DEaf ed as a BS. I have been teaching for 10 years and I plan to retire from or die at my desk in my building!!!

Okay, now I'm really going to bed!! night again.

Hi just peekin'...you didn't know that the tongue-wagging, boy crazy, nekkid dancin' VOn was a baby Yaya!...Yes actually it'a hard to tell her from one of our Elders isn't it...;)

Wagamama is Japanese tp describe a passionate, to the point of stubborness, woman and also the neam of a local haunt the girl favored in London(prolly with cute-tongued dudes:))

I admire you too Tara!:)

Not a Bosox fan here.;)

Ohh gotta fly..ice cream time!

Just popping in and out, lol. Kimmar I used to like the Yankee (while they had David Justice--what a hottie) but now he is gone so I dont catch them anymore, lol.
I bet Elaine's judgement slips again and she peeps back in. I know she cant resist us ;)
See you guys later. Oldest ds whining for computer time.

Tara, THANK YOU for the information. It is greatly appreciated!! Sarah is 22 and just a pure sweetheart. I was over there today and she does like to hug. I got a chuckle out when I read your comment about that aspect of DS people. I really want to be able to interact with her on a regular basis. So thank you again!
P.S. I'm a student at Meredith in Raleigh.
I hope your migraine gets better!!! I can ship ya some Imitrex if need be! Here's a muffin for the time being.

Elaine....good luck with that bike. When you get tired of it...let me know.....I'll take it off your hands :)

Kimmar..... :) thanks. I'm only bossy at work or with family(oldest grandchild, it's okay for me to boss the little ones around). I'm only spoiled when I'm in the company of my parents(dad spoiled me.....and told Derek it's his time to take over) ;) But I'm really not that horrible spoiled brat most only children turn into. :smooth:

If we're gonna get into favorite songsters/songtresses...etc... My All time fav. is Celine Dion. Love her...adore her.....member of her fan club....and hopefully I will see her in Vegas before she leaves in '05/'06.

(not that anyone asked how I got into it, but I'll tell anyway!)
uh huh! I did yesterday :) thanks for telling the story! I have a good friend named Tara that works on a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and she tells me cool stories too. Must be something in the name that makes both of you a great woman!

I just love all the bonding and sharing that we are doing tonight.

Baby Ya Ya, you have taught me something new tongiht. I had no idea what that bike was.....guess I am not too old to learn something new from Baby Ya Ya.....(OK, go ahead and quote me)

time for sleep. Good night fellow yaya sista's and bother's

Good night to all!

Have some great dreams.

Nope, stopping in now that I have put it together and used it.

Rather tired right now so I am going to rush on off... are we doing vitals though??

If so I am Elaine (also known as E!, El, Ellie, Lainey & Lainers as well as DP & AE :p) who is married going on 3 years this fall... 2 cats. Survived going on 4 years of work at the same telecom company (which is a shocker given the state of the economy for many). My silly husband posts from time to time under coqui and I have a tendency to love to travel, especially to meet other DISers.

With that I am going to bed :)

hey, Kimmy, glad to have you back....I AM rather PO'ed; ya didn't even give me an honorable mention, and, after all those great PIX I posted for ya....(I thunk we wuz BUDS!)

Neener, Neener, Neener!!!

Kim is a butt!!!!!

Oh Nancy, Marilyn, Kim said a bad word........

What a mothy bunch!

Enjoyed my somewhat "quiet" (I had the little boy I watch! LOL) time yesterday.
The boy I watch didn't leave until almost 7 yesterday, though.

Went to McD's for dinner yesterday. My diet is going downhill with DH home and the busy weekend we had.

Love reading everyone's "vitals". :)
Tara, I also have a Jared. :)

I forget if I did mine, so I'll do them again. :p
I'm Sherry (or Sher), 32, married to DH for 13 years, have 4 boys ages: 12, 11, 9, and 7. I also have a 2 year old kitty named Tinkerbell. :) I'm a SAHM but babysit privately for friends.

Morning Everyone

Yes I did survive the day Kristy. It's more like I'd better get used to this scenario. DS4 started summer camp yesterday. So up and out by 9 to drop him off. Gotta get him and DS2 ready by 8:30am.

Run any errands between 9:30 and 12:00, with DTerror2.

GO back to pick up DS4 from camp around 12:15. Make lunch, chase them around to get them to eat it. Play outside (weather permitting)

Clean house, get dinner ready

Back to Toms River for DS4 swim lessons from 5:30-7:30.

Put boys to bed, say hi to DH, clean up mess the older ones left me while I was gone for 2 hours, go to bed!!!

Yikes, no wonder I'm always tired.

I quickly scanned through everything. Seems everyone's ok. Kimmie glad you are feeling better.

Chat with you all later.

Liz

oh here's my story:

I'm a 38 (have trouble saying 39, which I'll be next Tuesday) stay at home mom of 4. DS15, DD15, DS4 and DS2.

Been married to my first boyfriend for 17 years on July 13th. We've been together since I was 16, so we've been together 22 years.

We moved to NJ from NY about 1 1/2 years ago and just love it. Best thing we ever did.

Kimmie, sorry we missed you at Great Adventure. It is literally 10 minutes from my house.

Good morning Ya Yas and bothers

Well, I finally had a good nights sleep....I feel great today.

Lizzie, my anniversary is July 12....didn't you just love getting married in the middle of the summer. It was 102 degrees the day we got married and the marriage has been hot ever since then. Well, there have been a few cool days but mostly hot.

Sherry, glad to see you up and moving around. I don't know how you do it everyday watching the little ones. You have the patience of Job.

Hey Betti,

Well we were a little luckier it was only 94 degrees and it was a little overcast, so it wasn't to bad.

I agree too - mostly hot just a tiny bit cool.

LOL

Hi Betty, Lizzie, & CS!

Ha! I wish I had more patience, Betty! :teeth: I'm not a very patient person at all. :o :teeth:

Its a gorgeous day here today! :sunny: Gonna take the boys and the little boy I watch to the park in a bit.
