Weird monkey picture

There is a wonderfully weird picture of a monkey and her baby on the back staircase of the Grand Floridian, near the door out to the pool area. It has been there for years and I take a picture of it every time I am walking through. Does anyone know the history and or/ story of this very interesting piece of art?

I prefer the rabbit, but the monkey is more distinctive. The Disney tourist blog mentions the paintings specifically in the discussion of the current remodeling going on at the grand Floridian. We haven't stayed there but go to Narcoosee's every time we visit and I always like walking around the resort. I miss Misner's but have to admit that the new bar is very nice too. I am one of those old Disney visitors that 'clings' to the past I guess. LOL!
