I was just wondering if anyone knows if excursions are generally strict on their weight limits. One of the excursions I want to do has a weight limit of 250 and I am 260. I was just wondering if they would not allow me to do the tour

What is the tour? If it was something like zip lining...hellzz no, I wouldn't push that limit.

They have weight limits for a reason - all are for your safety or if it involves animals (e.g., horses), it is for the animals safety. I assume they are strict about if and even if they aren't, you should be.

Is this a DCL excursion? I would think if they had a weight limit specified, they mean it. Probably has to do with liability.

I know if there's an age limit, they mean it.

:cutie:

I know a guy who went on the "Tube the Ditch" shore excursion on Kauai. There was a weight limit of 300 lb, presumably so the guest wouldn't get stuck on the tube? Anyway, my friend was easily 330 but figured since he's well over 6 ft tall, the girth issue wasn't a big deal. They didn't question him, and he did just fine.

As a PP has mentioned, I wouldn't push the weight limit with a horse or a zipline. The same tall friend wouldn't have fit into the zipline harness to begin with.

They do mean it, if it is ziplining. Actually had to get weighed for ziplining too. Don't think you would want the line to break if you were a couple hundred feet in the air.

We took our adult kids on a helicopter ride during our stay in Kauai and they actually have you get on a scale. They have to balance the weight of the helicopter.

They are usually very strict when it comes to ziplining and horseback riding. We have seen people get weighed, be a few pounds over the limit and be turned away. They still had to pay for the excursions because when they booked they were agreeing to the terms and stating that they met the requirements. It may vary with each vendor, but it's not advisable to risk it.

Remember if you are borderline on the weight that you will probably weigh a bit more each day into the cruise, not less. ;)

It really depends on the company which runs the excursion. We had a zipline excursion which stated it had a weight limit of 250. I push 320lb and I had no problem. Our guide must have been pushing 400+ I mean he was BIGGGGG!!!!! And he rode that zipline like a champ! I really think it depends on the company that is running it. I know most of the high ropes and climbing equiptment are tested and rated for 1,000+ lbs. Its not so much the weight limits which are problems but more the persons size in terms of fitting into equiptment. They just don't make equiptment for REALLY REALLY big people. If your 260, then you should have NO PROBLEMS.

re: Helicopter excursions, the weight limits are strict, for weight balance purposes as discussed above. They weigh you on the spot, and we had people there at the same time as us get moved to another helicopter or told they couldn't go altogether due to weight. They'll let you book it no problem in advance, but I wouldn't risk the hassle of trying to get a refund back after being told you couldn't participate in the excursion, besides which it may be too late to book something else...

That also depends on the helicopter company. We called around and one place kept referring to my friend and me as "the three of you." ahem. We eventually went with a different company who teamed us up with a tiny(!) Asian family and we were fine. A third company (different trip to Kauai) put six of us on an industrial scale together so no one's weight was singled out, and balanced the load.

I did a helicopter tour in Vegas in August and they weighed us individually but the read out on the scale was behind the counter. When we they called us to board they just told us where to sit.

OP, I am confused how 250 could be the limit for an ATV as well. Is it booked through DCL or is the vendor saying 250? If it is DCL saying 250 I would try to figure out what tour operator they use and see what their limit is. Just like some DCL excursions have an age limit but the tour operation will let younger kids go. I'm sure DCL isn't going to weigh anybody!

for whatever reason, i really can’t imagine why, if some company or excursion expresses a limit, one would knowledgable want to ignore that? i’m assuming because 260 is “only” so much different then 250 or something, but still...

good luck?:confused3
