Weight Issues at theme parks??

This is the reason I have not returned to Cedar Point or amusement parks other than Disney for many years. Lori, I'm glad to hear that you reported the appalling way you were treated. I'm a little nervous about Expedition Everest. At least I'll be able to test the fit in advance.

I have been on EE twice with NO problem at ALL ...... I am sure you will be fine nd LOVE the ride :)

Cedar Point has seats outside the ride for people to try out. That way, people can avoid waiting in a line and finding out they can't fit into the seat. I don't know about helping people put on their belts.

I have, on more than one occasion, helped an overweight person put on a belt at WDW, too. Test Track, Dinosaur, Tower of Terror, and Soarin' leap to mind.

I think I saw a seat outside the Hulk at Universal, too.

While what happened here was horrid, I can't believe this is standard practice at BG. They own Sea World, too, and I never had a single person say anything rude to me in about 1,000 visits.
That is SO funny you mentioned Sea World, that is the only other time I was said anything to. That time it was not rude or mean at all. They just said that I could not ride the back row on Krackin that I needed to move to a row with a double "hook". Now mind you I had already been on it more then 4 times and never had been told to move.

Thats ridiculous that that happened. Recently, I have had no complaints about BGT staff, so its sad to ehar a story like this. I usually won't ride Gwazi because of the belt straps being so needlessly short. Its ridiculous and unnecessary/

As for a previous poster mentioning Cedar Point, In the last couple seasons I'm pretty sure they have implemented a new procedure. If you can't buckle the restraint yourself, an employee isn't allowed to help and you won't be allowed to ride. Not sure how accurate this is, but this is what I've heard.
I think I've heard that about CP, too. The gentleman in question wasn't getting buckled, and the employee was giving direction as to pulling down on the overhead restraint. I don't remember the employee touching the guest or the restraint itself, just giving advice. So that policy might have been in place then, too. It was nighttime, so I think perhaps that guest didn't see the seat at the entrance, or was riding other things just fine all day and thought he could do this one too.

I had a problem buckling myself into Millennium Force, but it was just a tricky buckle and not a size problem. One could easily be overweight, skinny, have one arm, etc and have issues being safely restrained in that ride before launch.

Sorry for what you had to go through. I hope Karma turns around and bites them in the butt and that they got fired also.

Glad you reported them.

I, too, wouldn't be letting this situation go without knowing the resolution. I know another poster said amusement parks aren't 'allowed' to tell what was done but I've never heard of any federal law or statute that would prevent them from telling the customer what actions they have taken. I'd push on this because those employees need to be fired. The level of insensitivity they demostrated demands that serious a response. People pay a substantial sum to go to these parks for a day and do not deserve being treated in that fashion.

It's not a law just a policy. They won't tell you what was done as it is a privacy issue between an employer and an employee.

You are absolutely sure that is what they said? I don't doubt you, but didn't anyone else hear it? I don't have a weight problem, but if I ever heard an employee anywhere say something like that to another customer/guest, I would immediately go over to the employee myself and say "What did you say :furious:???" and ask for a show of hands of any other guests who might be witnesses. Surely others heard it if you did. Did any other guests say anything to each other, you, or the employees?

I wonder if they also say "cripple alert".

Yes I am sure, and the second time it was said I turned to the people who were waiting for the next "car" and alot of them were now staring at me.
I would not know if anyone else went to report it or even said anything.
Its hard to explain being in that situation. Honestly it felt like time had stopped and everything was moving in slow motion.

This trip was a special day for my son and I , we dont get to do much without my youngest and it was the first time he was trying rollercoasters (he has wanted to for years but has been affraid). I was so upset all day that he kept telling me to not worry about what those people said. He is 14 and heard and saw every single part of this incident.

I also want to say that I have been to BG SOOOO many times and this is NOT the norm for them, later in the day (last ride) we went on Kumba and when I asked if the seat was able to click down enouph, the attendants were AWSOME, they smiled assured me I was fine.
So I in no way wanted to come down on BG .....

I didn't have any problems fitting into EE and I am very Pooh sized. You can pm me if you want more info.

:grouphug: I am so sorry that you had to endure this type of behavior. I am glad that you had the presence of mind to report those idiots. You should have been given season passes, not just passes to the front of the line. You know, you may be pooh size but there are a heck of a lot of folks more pooh size than you. I would have been mortified and it would have been hard for me not to start crying.
