I am going to WDW during the 1st week of December. Has anyone gone at this time and what was the weather like? :sunny: Is it warm enough to swim or go to the water parks?

Weather can be extremely variable, all of the pools are heated. :wizard:

I am also going during that time! (..well next year!) And I am planning on bringing at least 1 pair long jeans, 1 pair 3/4 jeans, a pair of boardshorts, t-shirts and a jumper. I think that should cover all sorts of weather :sunny:

The last Dec we went was in 2002. It was cold all week (60's) & at night it was freezing. I had blankets on the kids in the stroller & we drank alot of hot chocolate that trip. During the MVMCP they had fake snow falling but for use northerners it was too much like home in Dec! :cold:

We are going 11-30 thru 12-07 this year and we are planning on it being on the cool side- for instance I didn't get plusses for the water parks... if it's warm enough we'll swim in the pool at the hotel.

I've gone the beginning of December the past 7 years. I've seen highs in the 50's (rare) and highs in the low 80's. The normal is mid 70's. Usually little rain, except for 2002 when we had 24 hour rains twice.

hey we must have been there the same time! It rained so badly for so long that even the CM's were talking about how bad it was. I have pictures of us in ponchos the whole trip & with our winter coats on. We also all came home sick from that trip too but that's another story!

Last December (17th - 23rd) we had weather from 71 degrees to 27! :earseek: We about froze to death waiting for the fireworks in MK. We never swam, but I did see kids swimming in the pool at the GF - even on the day it never got out of the 40's!

I've been for the past 4 Decembers (usually starting around the 16th-18th), and the weather is usually pretty chilly.

It's *never* been warm enough for me to wear shorts. Occasionally I'm comfortable in a tee-shirt, but a light jacket is essential for mornings and evenings, and I've needed a heavy coat at night most days.

I would say the average (that I've experienced) has been highs in the lower to maybe mid 60s, with lows anywhere from 30s to 50s.

We were there Dec 3 -11, 2004 and it ended up being pretty warm that particular week! We came prepared for some chilly weather and ended up only wearing shorts every day. Some days it got up to nearly 80 degrees. We did go swimming: early in the morning it was a little cool getting in/out, but the pool was heated so the swimming part was fine. The day we left, it started raining and the temperature dropped. But for us ~ the days were very spring-like.

I'd suggest pack in layers that all color coordinate! That's what we did.
All tops had both shorts & long pants that went with them and everybody had white long-sleeve knit shirts to wear underneath if we needed them.

December is a GREAT time to go! You will love it & the Christmas decorations will already be up!

I was there at the same time - a lot of people were enjoying the heated pool at the GF! You must have been at MK the same night we were freezing our butts off at Epcot. ;) We had a couple of short-sleeve days, and needed a jacket in the evenings and mornings, but the rest of the time was mostly jeans and long-sleeve shirts. Never got warm enough for shorts, except possibly for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

The weather is topsy turvy at best. We went one year where it was so cold during our MVMCP night we needed gloves and earmuffs - or something. Last year it was so warm on our MVMCP night.

We have gone where the entire vacation was pants and sweaters, others shorts and tank tops. And then there were some where it was cool clothes during the day and warm clothes at night.

Its best to pack a variety. I usually plan for cool clothes during the day and warm clothes at night. There are always laundry facilities if necessary.

We always go in early Dec or early Jan. The weather is a little IFY. We must have been there the same week in 2002 that several other posters were because it poured and poured and poured for days. But usually my DH wears shorts and long sleeve polo. My problem is I always overpack because I bring both heavy and light clothes. Disney in Dec is the best even if it is a little chilly.

I agree with sherry8253. Dec is a great time to go. We usually go first or second week too. Last year we missed for the first time. We're going 5th thru 10th this year. I pack for all weather. It's cold here in OH when we leave, so have warm coats. Usually it's shorts during the day, then pants or maybe just add sweatshirt for eveing. I've had to go to Mexico (in Epcot) and buy blankets to keep warm for Candlelight Processional. (30 degrees that night) Just bring a little of everything.
:umbrella: :sunny: :cold:

We have learned to pack for any temperature, even if we check the weather forcast the day before we leave and think we have it covered. It's not very predictable at all. Last year we wore short sleeved shirts and slacks the first part of the trip and the last day I had to buy a long sleeved shirt at MK because it was too cold for me, even though I had a jacket and other long-sleeved shirts in the room. It's particularly cold around water, whether it's at Epcot or Magic Kingdom. It means extra packing, but I'd rather be comfortable.
