We need an *official* cruising thread

:wave2: Hi fellow cruise lovers :). I just returned from a 7 nt. Western caribbean on RCI's Mariner. We have another cruise coming up in July on the Enchantment. I reached Diamond a few years ago, and I'm now getting close to Diamond + on RCI-gotta love the Concierge Lounge:cool1:

Oh we wanted so badly to be able to do Western on the Mariner before she leaves but I dont know whether that will be possible.
How was the ports, and how was the weather?

We fell in love with cruising a few years ago and since have been on seven cruises (4-Carnival, 1-Royal Caribbean, 1-Norwegian, 1-Disney). Currently, we have 2 booked--one for 6/7/08 on Carnival's Glory (7 day Eastern Caribbean) and one for Thanksgiving week. My favorite was the Norwegian since it was Hawaii and it was our first time there.

Has anyone here been to St. Martin or St. Thomas--those ports will be new to us.

Went to St. Thomas last May on Carnival. It was one of the prettiest islands we've been to yet. It was mountainous (sp?), lush green and the beaches were very pretty. Looking forward to a cruise back there as soon as we can. Probably next year.

Took the Western several years ago on DCL. Enjoyed it. Cozumel was my favorite. Of course on DCL Castaway Cay is a highlight. I thought Grand Caymen was just ok. We also hit Key West which was fun. We'd like to go back there again sometime.

We went to St. Maarten and St. Thomas. St. Thomas is gorgeous...I think you'll really enjoy it. Very green and more mountainous like another poster said. I don't think we went to the side of St. Maarten/St. Martin that you are going to so I can't really say much about that.

We went on Glory Western in 2005 but I know the other lines have the other ports and I want to do a cruise lines own private island since Carnival doesnt have one. we really liked Key West too.

Cunard has regular 5 day,no stop cruises straight to and from the UK..I believe they are to/from NY. This is great for non-flyers.

I would love to do one of those. I always have wanted to do a liner crossing. I'm just not sure how it would compare to cruising. I get a feeling I wouldn't fit in right. I love the idea of it though and I think that eventually I will do it because it's something I've always wanted to do.

We've cruised 2 occasions on Royal Caribbean. We loved it!! First ship was smallish: Rhapsody of the Seas. Second was Explorer of the Seas..big ship!

The smaller ship was more intimate but the bigger one had more to do!

We were hoping to cruise the Mariner, April 08. Unfortunately, finances did not agree. :sad1:

I have the cruising bug too. Unfortunately I can't afford to book anything now. Went on our first cruise on DCL in 2005 when they came to Calif for the summer. Oh my....that was the best!

Then our church had a couples cruise scheduled on Carnival to the same ports as DCL that we had done already, but the price was excellent, so we booked and did different excursions in the Mexican Rviera ports. So much fun! We had just as much fun on the Pride and we did on DCL.

Then for our 25th anniversary last May, we did DCL again (we had rebooked on board in 2005) only this time the Western Carribean. WOW....I had never seen water so blue (and warm) before in my life! What a great cruise!

Can't wait until we can afford to book another. Next one we do may be the Carnival Spirit to southern Mexico. Until then.....when DCL comes to Calif next month, we will drive down to watch her sail away a few weekends.

I also live on CruiseCritic when I have a cruise booked. You learn so much there.

Weather was incredible :). We've done all these ports before, but it was our kids' first cruise, so we tried to do some interesting excursions. In Ocho Rios we die the White River rafting-this was really cool. You travel down the White River on bamboo rafts right to where the river meets the sea. The scenery was beautiful! We did snorkeling and Stingray City in Grand Cayman, and Paradise Beach in Cozumel. we had a late flight home, so we spent the day at the Kennedy Space Center. It was a perfect trip:goodvibes .

I just made the final payment yesterday on our July cruise, and I'm already planning one for next year, either April vacation week or July.

I adore cruising. We're going on Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas in August on a cruise with a bunch of cousins. We're supposed to be on Carnival's for a theme cruise in November, but I may cancel that one. And I have a free cruise coming to me on Princess. I just don't know when we'll get around to it.

We took the kids on their first cruise in November - just a 3 night cruise on the Disney Wonder. I got an amazing, rock bottom rate last minute and booked it for us. Now the kids are addicted! Just hope they aren't too spoiled by DCL!

I love this thread!! Keep it going!! :thumbsup2

I've only done the Eastern Caribbean route once, our first cruise. St. Thomas and St. Maarten were beautiful though, so I'm looking forward to going back and doing a bit more exploring.

We've done the Western 3 times. Loved zip lining in Ocho Rios, and the Dolphin Encounter in Cozumel. We took a tour of Cozumel in January '06 and they were just rebuilding from the hurricane so it was very interesting to see. We did the Stingray City thing once, it was fun but the water was much higher than waist high on me so I wasn't comfortable with that but touching the rays was awesome, they are just like velvet and so sweet and docile.

I just love visiting ports, and seeing how other cultures live, but I do love the sea days as well. Being able to have breakfast delivered in the morning and eating out on our balcony, exploring the ship, enjoying the "drink of the day" while relaxing in a lounger, having an afternoon nap (so I can stay awake for the late night activities!), people watching, sitting on my balcony enjoying the sunshine and a good book, oh it's just heavenly!!

Can't wait to be back on the Mariner of the Seas again!!

DH & I leave on the 12th on Enchantment of the Seas! We can't wait! We are going parasailing in Key West, to the beach & on a tour in Cozumel and to climb Myan ruins in Belize! This will be our 3rd cruise. We have also been on Song of America (1998) and Majesty of the Seas (2006).

Aug 13, 2009 we will be taking our first Disney Cruise. Our children 16, 12 & 6 are lkooking forward to their first cruise.

May 2010 we will probably book a cruise to Alaska on NCL. We have never sailed with NCL, but my inlaws will be going and it's their favorite cruise line.

I think I recognize some of you from cruise critic!:thumbsup2

We have done the Eastern - St Thomas and St Martin, but we enjoy the Western more. We will probably do an Eastern again in the next couple of years.

My DH did the zip line in Ocho Rios and loved it. We really loved Grand Cayman and Cozumel. In Grand Cayman we went to Royal Palms Beach Club for lunch and then stayed and used the beach there and it was beautiful. We are looking to do different things though on our Western cruise in August.
