We need an *official* cruising thread

Have any of you ever booked an aft corner balcony cabin on RCCL? Our last cruise was on the Navigator in 11/06. It was our very belated honeymoon cruise and so it was planned for quite a while. When I first started researching on cruisecritic I read about these aft balcony cabins with gigantic balconies...and the date we were sailing had one available for no more money than a regular side balcony so we took it. Woohoo!!! Did we ever love it. It was SOOOOOO large, almost as large as our stateroom, we loved the aft location, had views off the side and rear of the ship. We even had a cocktail party with all of our table mates one night. It was AWESOME. If anyone is unsure feel free to PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send pics.

Now I'm spoiled, though...a regular balcony just won't cut it! LOL

I have a larger balcony than normal but I don't think it's one of those..I think it's about 15 sq fee bigger than the normal one.

I'm sitting here waiting for my TA to email me confirmation of my deposit. I want it NOW.

So what is everyone's screennames on Cruise Critic???

As I stated, I'm ChristieNJ. I don't recognize anyone's sn on here so I'm assuming you have different ones over there like I do? :)

I have good friends that will also be on your cruise on Enchantment this month! They are very excited...it is their first cruise. They keep bombarding me with question after question, lol! Of course I love it! hehe! :cutie:

My name on Cruise Critic is PrettyLA

We are really spoiled with the balcony and we made the "mistake" of getting a balcony on our first 4 day Disney Wonder cruise. I guess I could manage with just a window but it would be so different.

I guess I'm cheap. We almost always sail in an inside cabin. We did spring for a balcony once on a 4 day DCL, but it wasn't worth the extra $$$$ to us.

We haven't been on a cruise yet. My dh and I are taking a 2-day "cruise to nowhere" the first weekend in June on the Carnival Victory because it was cheap and we want to see how we like it.

If we like it, we'll start saving for a family cruise on either Carnival or Disney. But we'll need two staterooms and my dh will only get one with a balcony so it will take a LOT of saving!

I would probably be fine with an inside cabin...I know I would be fine with a ocean view.. I'm sticking with the balcony for now due to DH clausterphobia... Considering what he's been through and how fresh it still is I'm going to cut him some slack..I can't imagine getting him on ship and watching him have panic attacks...They are pretty scary.

I really did look at doing that one. But we will be going to Florida to and it is just going to be to much driving if we went on the cruise as we live in NC and we would have to drive to Virginia and then drive onto Florida afterwards.

You will have a great time and just dont forget to take some Bonine or Dramamine. You may not need it but it is better to be safe than sorry. We always start taking it the day before we leave. If you get the Dramamine then get the less drowsy and then the Bonine has a generic I got at Target and we liked it better.

My DH used to have panic attacks and they are not fun. So I would definetely go with what makes him comfortable. Just as long as I can cruise I dont care where I am but DH likes to at least have an OV. But if our only way to be able to cruise would be an inside you better believe thats what I am going to do.

Our thoughts are better to cruise more often. I understand those with other issues making it uncomfortable. We spend very little time in our room. If I want to watch the water go by (and I do often) I love to just go up on one of the decks. There are often areas where the traffic is minimal and it's very quiet.

Our cruise is long with something like 9 sea days...I think we will be spending more time than normal in our rooms.
I'm hoping that if we cruise in 2010,maybe by then we a downgrade..

We love the "at sea" days--those are the best days for taking naps! We usually have inside rooms, so it is nice and dark. The only negative is, if we don't set an alarm, we may sleep through dinner! :lmao: Our next cruise has 3 sea days and I am sure we'll still be able to take those afternoon naps in our balcony room.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That's exactly what DH and I say about the inside rooms. (besides them being cheap). Those afternoon naps are fabulous. Also, if I see the sun is up in the morning, I'm up. I've actually slept until 10 in an inside and I NEVER do that.

It's not cheap. Everyone has preferences and spends money differently. :)

Thanks! I will definitely do that. I have never been on the ocean before so I'm not sure how I will react and want to be safe I'm not usually prone to motion sickness though, so hopefully will be okay.

That is definitely a good idea to take the medicine before you depart. Also, I have read that ginger pills work well for motion sickness as well without the risk of drowsiness. Never personally tried them though.

We love to cruise as well and have cruised on most of the major lines.

Have any of you cruised Europe at all?
Has anyone been to Portugal(azores) Vigo or Southhampton?

Jenny, we have cruised Europe but not the ports you are going to. DH and I did a Western Med cruise on the NCL Jewel in 2006. It was fabulous. Last August, my eldest DD and I did the Magic's Trans-Atlantic repositioning cruise from Barcelona to Port Canaveral, it had port stops in Gibraltar, Cadiz and Tenerife and Castaway Cay. Six straight sea days crossing the Atlantic and we had spectacular weather. I absolutely loved the sea days the best, a comfy lounge chair, a good book and a cold beverage. :cloud9: The ports were amazing as well but the sea days were so relaxing.

I will dig up a few pics to post.

What a great thread. :)

My mexican cruise caught the tail end of a storm on the last day..The boat was really rocking. Things were falling off shelves and people were seasick..I was miserable and seasick. It was pretty bad..Ed finally found me some bonine at the gift shop and it really helped..People with Sea bands did not get sick at all..I know I will be prepared on the next trip.

Oh duh..This thread is useless without pics...I will post some today

DId I mention that my cruise was filled Polygamist and Belly Dancers?
I'm also ashamed to admit that in the sci-fi group I was with there was a 6 ft 6 Air Force retiree who had head to toe lame leotards for every day of the cruise...We were there on oscar night and he showed up in a full length gold Lame one...He looked like an Oscar and people kept asking him to take his picture.
He actually had a tux, because he wore it too our filming one day,but then showed up the same night for formal night in full length red lame.
