We need an *official* cruising thread

Port Canaveral is definitely my favorite port to cruise out of. I am so excited that Freedom of the Seas (Independence's sister ship) is moving to Port Canaveral in about a year to replace the Mariner that is going to Los Angeles.
We're excited about the Freedom moving to Port Canaveral also. I'm going to miss the Mariner though. We've sailed her twice. Are you close to PC?

I looked at that one for DD graduation trip next May. It's as much as sailing DCL. Hopefully after a bit the price will go down. The one I looked at was the 2nd one after getting to Port Canaveral.

Oh wow. That is insane. I haven't looked at the prices yet. They really upcharge for the Freedom class it seems. If you ever book a cruise through RCCL and you see the price has dropped (doesn't happen often though) you can just call them and they will honor the difference. I really want to take another Disney cruise but I think we are going to wait until their new ships come out in a few years simply because you can get more for your money on Royal Caribbean, as far as their new ships offer.

We went on the Mariner in July 2005. Great ship with a great crew. We have gone out of PC every cruise except this last one, when we went out of Bayonne, NJ to go to Bermuda and Caribbean. No, we are in Ohio, but I wish we were closer! Port Canaveral is much easier to drive to than Miami.

Yes it is! We've been out of Miami once and San Juan once. I don't like flying to the port because of my luggage. :lmao:

We really haven't talked about itinerary, but I seem to be the planner of our group, so I imagine wherever I choose is where we'll go!

I'm hesitant to fly anyway, but the fear of losing my luggage plays a big part in not flying!

I think people will either love or hate the Genesis class..I think it sounds very exciting..An outdoor park in the middle of a ship..Awesome.
I'm afraid to see the prices..

I really hope there will be a lot for DS to do..He will be 14..It's one of the reasons I picked a big ship.

Agreed. I think the Genesis may be too large for some. It's a rather funny situation for us inaugural cruisers; to be so excited about a cruise of which we don't know the price, date, or ports of call!

I'll be using a military flight, so I think the likelyhood of them losing my luggage is much lower.

Here's a tip.. Ed and I mix our clothes..He puts half of his stuff in mine and vice versa...If a bag is lost or delayed at least we both have some clothes.

Well, I'd definitely check out cruisecritic.com. It's a great resource for all cruisers and it might help you decide what you want to do. I personally love the Caribbean, but there are many options out there.

Generally, the shorter the cruise the more young and party oriented the crowd will be. The longer the cruise, the more families you will see.

How was sailing out of Bayonne? Since the Freedom is so high, I'm looking at a 9 day out of Bayonne. Did you like the Bermuda Caribbean itinerary?

I have heard about that tip and it's a very good one! When I do fly again, I am going to definitely use that method of packing.

I also tie a piece of brightly colored yarn or ribbon to my luggage..It makes it much easier to spot.

Hey, this has the making of a clique thread :goodvibes

The Independance Of the Seas makes her maiden voyage tomorrow, I think

My mom does that because her's is just basic black. I got mine from L.L. Bean and they are already bright so pretty easy to find.

We are going on a 1-week Alaskan cruise this year on the Norwegian Star.

Has anyone here ever cruised to Alaska, or anywhere else on the Star?

So far I've only done a 4 night Disney cruise.

No, I haven't but DH wants to take a cruise around Alaska. If you find the time, please report back on how it was and what excursions you did!

I've never been part of a clique thread before. This would be the best kind.

I JUST LOVE TO CRUISE.:boat: :boat: :boat: :boat: Is it October yet?

I haven't either...well I guess the AI thread is kind of a clique thread.

Cruising is my favorite type of vacation as well...I love love love it.

Hey! Another cruiser here. I'd love to see a cruising board. We cruise on RCCL due to their great kids program. JennyMominRI I am green with envy over your TA cruise! I've sailed her sister ships and you will not lack for anything on non port days!

There is a group of us on cruisecritics waiting to book RCCL's Genesis Inaugural. She sails sometime fall of 2009. Everyone is welcome and actually I got the heads up from another disboards cruise lover on this board. I can't remember her name but thanks if you are the person who directed me to the group!

Anyway, yeah cruising is a blast but due to my silly insane germ phobia it takes some serious mental gymnastics for me to eat in the windjammer.
Hi, That would be me I think;) . I posted the genesis information here when it came out April 15th.
I am WeWant2BCruzin over on CC. I am so excited about that cruise I can hardly contain myself:cool1:

My first cruise was just OK...I think part of the reason was because I had just spent 6 days in the midst of friends a see twice a year and it was pretty much one big party..There is always a letdown when the convention is over and you really miss everyone.. I was really sad to leave everyone and it took me a couple days to wind down and get used to the pace of cruising..
That said, It is something that I know I can really get into..I'll just never tack it on to a convention again, unless it was before it..
I know this cruise will be awesome..
It will also be my first time in Europe and we will visit and stay with our UK friends after.
