we need a microwave at Pop

And I repeat myself.

1.) You tell the OP to phone and ask.
2.) The OP phones the # you provide and asks.
3.) You ridicule her for believing what they told her when she calls.

Seriously. Why argue every little thing. :confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

Housekeeping at least works at WDW. You don't. I would take their word over yours any day. :snooty:

Such a dumb thing to argue about. Of course I think taking a microwave is dumb too.

Housekeeping is not the proper channel in this instance:

I emailed the Manager of Pop Century (who I met through another situation). Microwaves for the purpose of heating/eating food are definitely forbidden in the rooms. There are and always will be some instances where a medical reason will over-ride the resorts decision on this, but for everyday use, you are to go to the food court per the manager. I then emailed the manager at SSR (he recently moved over from Pop Century) and he stated that all his years at Pop Century the rule was always the same. NO Microwaves.

For the poster who contacted Housekeeping, feel free to PM with your email and the manager at Pop Century will contact you directly.

Surely you jest!

This is a prime example of what I mean about being bullied into submission with scare tactics.

She's not going to burn down the resort with a microwave.... and if she did, it was due to faulty resort wiring.

Earlier in this thread I showed that a small microwave uses less wattage than a hair dryer...... and I'm sure just about every room has a hair dryer.

This thread is just getting old...

Yet you still keep reading and posting.:lmao::lmao:

Actually.... a microwave energy usage is about 700-1100 watts. Lets compare that to a hair dryer 1200-1875 watts. Should I not bring my hair dryer??? Will I blow a fuse?? lol

I have only heard a bunch of Dis posters say microwaves aren't allowed. Haven't seen anything from an official Disney website that microwaves aren't allowed in the rooms.

OP. I've realized Dis posters like to set their own rules. Quite frankly, I wouldn't give it too much weight unless you get it from the horses mouth.

Let's just go with the 'rule' of common sense. If the property - ANY property - doesn't provide a device or appliance either in the room or by request free or for a charge, they don't want/expect whatever it is to be used in their rooms.

Actually yes you can have a microwave in your room, just not any other cooking devices:

Surprisingly, the Mom's Panel members aren't always right. I can't remember the topic offhand, but several months ago, more than one "mom" was giving wrong answers on a specific subject.

Do not make the mistake of thinking the Mom's panel know what's what. They don't. These are the same moms who told people you don't need a park hopper to park hop.
Ah, THAT was it! Thanks, maxiesmom! :rotfl:

I'm glad you called.... and you got it straight from the horses mouth.
It would probably be a really good idea to call back and get "the horse's" name, direct phone line, and work schedule, in case there's any problem when the OP shows up with a microwave.

And, really, I don't think the smell of a burrito or popcorn is any more offensive than cold bologna and cheese, or peanut butter.
Really? Heat rises, and so travels. Any aromas/odors generated as part of the heating process travel with the heat. There's no heat involved in preparing a bologna or peanut butter sandwich, therefore no smell. Ever go into a pizza/sub shop? You can smell the pizza being made - but not the cold subs. Similar, but worse - because you're not expecting someone to be heating food in nearby hotel rooms.

hmmmm, i'll argue that one. Sound machines, air pumps for air mattresses, curling iron.

I wish that Disney hotel rooms had microwaves. You can find them nowadays at low cost hotel chains so it's odd that Disney rooms have so little. I just want one to heat water for tea so no odors from me. :)
Doesn't surprise me at all. WDW resorts arent' low cost hotel chains and they don't compete with low cost hotel chains . There's no need for them to offer the amenities that low cost hotel chains offer in an attempt to entice customers away from the direct competition.

I kinda doubt that a microwave is going to 'blow a fuse' in a hotel. Disney doesn't want you to bring a microwave because they want you to buy food in the food court or the restaurants on site. And they don't want to deal with the people complaining about the smell.

If a microwave is so important to you (the general you), then stay at a hotel or condo that has one.

Ummmm, so the wiring is better in a low cost hotel chain than in a disney resort?

Sorry, the only reason disney doesn't allow it is because they don't want people to have that option. Their property, their rules. But the reasons given, burning the building down, etc., are just silly.

So the direct line to Pop that the OP was given by the DIsboards wasn't good enough?? You have to be extra special and go directly to the Manager. LOL. How do you even have his email address? Is it out there for the general public to find?

I was reading the thread while on hold with WDW, so I thought I'd ask.

I was told (by whoever answered the phone at POP - or at least said they were at POP) that microwaves are not allowed. Nor are sandwich makers (not that I asked, she just volunteered that info).

So, we again have the "call three times and get four different answers" problem.

For what it is worth, I doubt that using a microwave will cause the building to burn down. I do, however, think cooking food in the microwave does cause a lot more odour than making a baloney sandwich (or whatever else was mentioned).

I'll be at POP on my next trip and would complain if I could other people cooking when in my room (well, I'd complain at any hotel with kitchens).

The Pop Century no microwave rule is not because of blowing fuses, etc. It is just that they prefer to have a no microwave (IN ROOM) resort. Just like some hotels don't have pools, others don't have refrigerators, etc. They make the rules. You are suppose to follow them. You can either follow the rules or not. Just be prepared if you break the rules and the person next to you decides to let the front desk know you can be fined or asked to leave. Does it happen all the time, NO!

The question then becomes, does the OP want to risk it? I for one would not want to tell little Johnny/Janie we have to leave Disney because Daddy wanted to have his microwave popcorn in the room :rolleyes1.

No not extra special at all. I had the email from another time, we have been friendly ever since, and because I could I email him I did. I asked a direct question to the proper person to get a direct answer. Everyone here keeps talking about this CM doesn't know the truth and that CM will give you another answer. So I asked and got the answer for the OP. That doesn't make me special at all. Just helpful. And no the email is not out there for the general public, and no you DO NOT get front desk when you call. Would I help someone out by giving their information to him? Yes.

And now that I have been replying, if you want to call me special, go right ahead and do that, and I'll disregard the sarcasm and take it as a compliment. :thumbsup2

I really didn't know that the mom's panel over at the WDW site wasn't overseen by anyone, so now I know not to take what they say as truthful. It never occured to me to even think about taking a microwave, toaster or anything like that over to my ASMu rooms. I don't even take my little 4 cup coffee pot. Since I am now spoiled by staying at the cabins I don't have to worry about cooking appliances but if I ever stay at a value I will not bring them anyway. Too much hassle to lug them into the room and I am sure my neighbors don't want to smell what we're cooking.

Not that it really matters, but that number is not a direct line to Pop. It goes to a call center.

Just wanted to insert an unbiased opinion ...

If you have to ASK if it's OK to have something in a hotel room, it probably isn't OK. Example, no one has ever debated if they can take their toothbrush.

Just sayin' ...

:rotfl2: really luvsJack ?? don't get around much ? :rotfl2:

no flames KIDDING !!

:rotfl: true, true. There are some real doozies that go on around here. I cannot imagine people getting their knickers in a wad over some of this stuff IRL!

Brilliant! You win the prize for best answer!:teacher:

Thank you. :)

If she's not driving, then I want to know her secret for getting her microwave on an airplane!

:lmao: Yeah I guess I didn't quite think that one out all the way. :lmao:

A number of years ago, I worked in a single-company building. The three-story office was in front; it was backed by a long, large warehouse, and the cafeteria (tables, chairs, vending machines, microwave ovens) was to one side of the warehouse, i.e. not directly connected to the office.

Maintenance spent several hours one day cleaning up after a snowstorm; not bad enough to keep us from work, but there was a lot of property - sidwalks, roadways, two large parking lots... about 2:30, a horrendous odor permeated the building. Nobody could figure out what it was. Something was burning, but it wasn't just that, and it wasn't on-fire burning. Whatever, it was worse than disgusting.

One of the maintenance men had decided to dry his wool socks in one of the microwaves.

disclaimer: I realize it rarely, if ever, snows in Orlando and if it does it melts almost immediately. That's not the point. My point is, odors from a microwave - again, anything heated - DO travel.

Great. TEN PAGES boiled down to one common-sense response :teeth:.

Excellent answer, FergieTCat.

Hmmm... this thread seems to have gotten mysteriously shorter! :rotfl: Everyone is keeping the mods busy apparently. It's been keeping me entertained all day, though.
