Wow - first of all, I didn't swear. I was extremely quiet about the whole thing. I have 3 kids and KNOW how they can get sick and surprise ya and I certainly do not like to be embarrassed and would not care to embarrass somebody else....the thing is, I QUIETLY and DISCRETELY asked the CMs to move and was given the runaround. I actually ddidn't even want to stay and eat. The smell was repulsing me. I didn't even say a word to the jolly guy that wanted us to start their fireworks. We have seen them many times so it's no chance of a lifetime. I would rather have healthy kids. Our main meal hadn't even come out, I wanted to get away. Couldn't because they didn't clean it up so well and it was right in the walkway. Sorry you all don't mind vomit, but I do. I guess I am really surprised. I have 3 kids and they have NEVER once thrown up due to anything but illness. Don't even like to clean up my own kids' vomit, and another kid's puke is alltogether too much while I am going to have dinner on my 2nd night at WDW on my 40th bday trip with big, expensive plans to come that could be way ruined by one of us getting ill. We have had too many vacations ruined by illness going thru our family.

I think it's so funny that there are so many threads about who's wearing what in a concierge lounge that is bothering people (swimsuits, flipflops, bare feet, pjs...etc) yet VOMIT doesn't bother anybody!! Too funny. I don't care what anybody wears or looks like, but vomit or poop etc while dining is not my thing. I guess I am pretty much alone in the vomit issue, but I think it's gross.

Happy travels,

Lives4Disney :)
Plenty of kids puke for reasons other than illness. At WDW many kids are allowed to eat way more than they should (especially junk food) because they're on vacation. That and a couple of rides is a recipe for vomit. The CMs are probably nonchalant about it because they must see it all the time.

Nobody blames you for wanting to move--I certainly would have asked to move, too. I don't want to eat next to smelly puke. It is gross. But you're overreacting to the whole thing, even now. Let it go.

Color me confused... I haven't figured out WHAT the OP wanted the restaurant to do? What is the point to this thread? They moved them as they requested, they comped a meal, what did she want? If it was that bad, why didn't she just leave? Why throw a fit and then race here and throw a fit online as well? She was obviously bent out of shape over it. How did R&C fail at their job so badly?

I just don't get it. No one enjoys eating around puke either but I can't imagine ruining my family's evening because of it. It's life - get up and move if it bothers you. Walk out of the restaurant. Send your family out and stop at the hostess desk and ask for a manager and tell them why you're leaving. Request an inside table and move to it immediately. Why wait?

Why didn't you do those things?

*scratching my head...*

I think one of the problems was the amount of time it took for the CMs to clean up the mess. The amount of vomit/sawdust on the floor made it impossible for the OPs family to just walk out.

They had to wait for everything to be cleaned, then have the CMs find them another table.

Just my 2 cents.....1st of all not all kids puke becuase they are sick, my son has a very over sensitive gag reflex and can puke at any given time (not pleasant). We never would go to regular restaurants because of this. However he seems to have outgrown it (just in time for free dining this fall!!!) 2nd I can not stand the smell or sight of vomit, makes me want to do the same thing, so sitting there beside it would have turned my stomach and made dinner for the rest of my family very unpleasant.

So in a nutshell, I believe the OP had a right to be angry that they weren't even offered a new table right away, R&C should have realized that some people can't eat with that smell so close, however I think the OP overreacted just a little with the whole germ thing and the little girls eating dessert (after my son would have one of his episodes he was STARVING right after). If it bothered you THAT much just ask to be moved and if they give you attitude then just leave and don't make a bad situation worse. :sad2:

How should they clean up the vomit without the sawdust like chemicals? That's the best way to handle it- the CMs are people too. My DD puked in the Pop Century Food Court in May, and that's what they did. The nearest CM dropped everything to take care of it. I think that R&C probably took a while to move them b/c it was Illuminations time. They couldn't exactly ask another family to move to that table, and no one is giving up prime viewing spots.

And the 'some silly thing' about starting the fireworks- it might be silly to you as an adult, but to a child it would probably be awesome. Oh well. I wouldn't have wanted to smell puke either, but I think that giving the restaurant enough time to move alternate arrangements when at peak capacity is in order.

Am I the only one that thinks "MOTION SICKNESS" could be a very major cause of vomiting at a place like Disneyworld?

I doubt it is contagious.

There are degrees of vomit. 4 year old ate too much Cotton Candy vomit, is not the same as a 200 pound man drank too much beer at an all you can EAT pizza place the night before vomit.

We all understand that no one would really like to be around ANY vomit during dinner, the op had every right to be moved. My main concern was that the op gave the impression that she was less than compasionate towards the little girl during her requests, If I assumed incorrectly I apoligize. Helping the little girl feel better would have been our main concern, and I feel that the CMS were on the right track.

After reading your post, I thought wow, is she p***ed. I wonder if that is how the people at hoop de doo felt when my son threw up in the back of the hall right before we could get him out the door, around the side of the building and into the bathroom. I had to go to the store and buy him new shorts and tshirt. clean him and yes we did go back in and stay for the rest of the show. If he was sick, I would of found my way back to the hotel while the rest of our party stayed. But he wasn't, With my son, you never know when it's going to strike. At the time he was 8, He drank milk, then it hit him. Most times he has no problem drinking milk but there are occassions when it makes him sick, Ice cream too. So for all the people at Hoop de doo 2 yrs ago the first week of March. I am sorry. The cm's did the same thing there, threw saw dust on it, when I came back in, it was not problem it was all gone and there was no smell.

I agree with the OP. Yes I am a germ freak. I should buy stock in wet wipes.

My kids puke all the time when they get hot, so if you plan to be at WDW July 14-23 please do not eat at the following restaurants between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 pm or you might get a preview of what they had for lunch!! :rotfl2: Crystal Palace, Ohana ,WCC , LTT, Kona, Le Cellier,Cape May, Mama Melroses!!

I luckily do not have a weak stomach. I would rather catch it in my hands as for them to get it on themselves or to stain their clothes and I am the same way with any other child. Vomiting is scary for children.. they don't understand why it happens and yes, they do get embarrassed too. If it were me in this situation I would have been offering help to the family trying to get the little girl cleaned up so she could watch the fireworks comfortably.

But that is just me!!!!

Oddly enough I have the same repulsed reaction to wet dogs (don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, but went camping too many times with wet dog fur winding up in my tunafish sandwich - BLAH!) and oddly enough the OP's sig happens to show a very huge, very wet dog... ugh, I don't think I can eat now.

Anyway, to the point, Humans are funny animals... we can upchuck for many different reasons. Perhaps the girl had a problem with the heat, had been crying too much, had too much to eat, was indeed coming down with a bug (btw OP, if you're afraid of illness don't let your kids swim in any Disney pools or touch anything on airplanes) or simply tasted an item off her plate that disagreed with her palate.

I do think that if the "spill" had been left on the floor for longer than 5 minutes it would have been time to say something to a manager as that sawdust/chemical stuff is a hazard on it's own being slippery and a few people have reactions to it. But it sounds like in the OPs case 5 minutes may have seemed like an hour. In any case, I can see how it may have ruined the evening for you & your family, but these things happen... kids ya know.

I thought this thread was going to be an informative review of the food/service of this restaurant. This was just an unlucky event that had nothing to do with R&C really. I'll still give them a try. I'll just be on the lookout for sawdust!

Wait a minute--my kids might be able to start the fireworks if we eat at Rose & Crown for dinner? I'm making ressie's for every night of our stay now! :bounce:

However, I'll never go near Toy Story Pizza Planet again after hearing that the dining tables also serve as the diaper changing tables. :crazy2:

I have not read all these threads, but MG no way would I have wanted to eat there either. I don't care if someone puked because they had a virus or not. TMI. It's vomit and carries germs.
I have read on other sites that CMs have said the smell from that absorbant they use is a worse smell than the protein spill they have to clean up.
I would think still serving food in that area that was not all cleaned up and had that smell from vomit and cleanser in the air would be a violation of health code. If it isn't, it should be.
ugh....
I hope you had other meals that made up for this loseer of one.

but she gives us some garbage excuse that this sawdust and chem clean up is "standard procedure"
Actually using something like sawdust and/or cat litter is fairly common in cleaning vomit. It makes it much easier on the individual doing this unsightly task. It also sound like Disney is using a chemical to help reduce the vomit smell. Let's think of the alternative - I know if I had to clean a stranger's vomit, then it will likely lead to my vomiting and whomever gets to clean mine,...well you can just imagine. The OP felt trapped by the vomit but imagine if it was an ever increasing puddle that was growing closer and closer with more and more strangers vomitting. So I don't really think that the sawdust and chem clean up was a garbage excuse.

Happy travels,

Lives4Disney :)

You are not in my minority! I'm a mom and puke makes me want to puke. I can smell it a mile away. Last year at Chef Mickey's the little girl next to us sat down - I looked at my husband and said that child is sick - 10 minutes later - puke city...... the dad looks at us and says, "she hasn't been feeling well all day". Lets not waste our money but lets go puke on Disneyworld.....
They were not quick to move either - they had one of the big buckets they put dishes in and she just kept at it in there..... finally the manager came over and asked them if they'd like to come back some other time. It was gross - it smelled bad - I didn't like it. I can deal with anything else in life - blood, poop - you name it. But vomit is just plain gross and it's my "thing" that truly can ruin my day. I don't want to do it and I certainly don't want my 3 year old to do it - if she does, we'll be out of there as fast as we can run (while daddy cleans it up of course! :rotfl2: ).

The Rose & Crown had been so very nice to us in the past. Once I was sick couldn't eat anythng and all I wanted was watermellon. It was not on the menu they got it for me at no charge. I did not throw up just really didin;t feel great. didn't want to ruin it for others as we had an outside table as soon as the fire works was over off I went to bed.
No one wants to be around someone who is sick and no one wants to ruin it for others.
I agree with the others the CM didin't want to clean it up either ugh. It was not Rose & Crown fault. The mother of the sick child should have left I would have after she threw up. Everyone else eating properly didn;t like it either no one likes the smell. My husband says they should have not seated anyone in that area till they had clean it up.That sounds likethe best thought on this.

  party: party: party: party:

I understand how the OP feels, I get queasy myself to see, hear or smell vomit..BUT..its natural nothing you can do really when a child throws up as a mother myself I know there are times you have NO warning before it hits the deck..lol So you really cant say the parents of this poor child had any warning that he didnt feel well. Its been my experience that when kids are excited they wont always tell they are not feeling well, and being at WDW would defanitely constitute excitement..My own son told me a month ago that he had not felt well on one of the days we were at MGM, when I asked why he didnt tell me he said he didnt want to leave. Also Im not really sure how you wanted the CMs to handle it, being they were throwing sawdust on it to soak it up and had the cleaning chemicals out also..I am sorry you had an unpleasant experience..I know my stomach is rolling just thinking about it..lol
