We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

OH MY GOSH!!! This food is just the best ever!!!

five_guys_best_pic_1.jpg

Not southern food just good! Not even good for you......just flat out good!

This place originated in Arlington, Virginia, now they even have at least two locations in New York City (I know of two, there may be more), and I think there's also one somewhere in the Albany suburbs.
The original actually no longer exists. Which is a shame. They used to get their breads and buns made fresh from a nearby bakery.

P.S. I think those fries would definitely pass Homer Simpson's translucence test.....:rotfl2:

I know, I know, you race fans are just a crazy lot! On a warm summer night, sitting out by the pool.....I can hear it sometimes.....just delightful.....;)

I did like going to the little Legends car race though. LOUD!!!!! And fun too.

Funny, about those dates, I am well aware of the popularity of the October time especially. That was going to be our wedding date weekend and we had to move it because there wasn't a place to stay in town!

So we picked the last weekend in September.

I do like racing, but I'm not one of those CRAZY fans. I don't smoke Winstons, I don't chew tobacco, I don't drink Bud, I don't drive a big jacked up 4X4 Ford F-150, and I don't have the #3 tattooed on my arm. Even those types of fans are too much for me. :goodvibes

I love the legends. They are absolutely fun to watch. There's a race track about 1.5 hours from here that I try to take the kids to regularly. Sometimes they have the Legends and the Bandoleros race cars. Did you know that 600 Racing, Inc., located in Harrisburg, N.C., is the largest manufacturer of race cars in the world, and is the exclusive producer of the Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Roadsters?

I am so sorry to have to call it a night so very early (;) ) but I have to actually "work" tomorrow. WOW! I will try and pop back in to finish my tour in the am though.

Ann, you're doing a great job so far! :thumbsup2
Keep up the good work.

Sorry, got called away about 11:30pm.
DW is back and all the stories had to be told. :yay:
Great job so far Ann!
GOLD! Now we're talkin'.... :cool1:

5 Guys...hmmmmm....wonder if they are any relation???? :confused3
NOW thats a burger!!!
Not this McD's stuff they TRY to pass off as a burger.
We had a place called "Scooter's" near where I used to live.
They had a "Grand Slam" burger....1lb of meat!!!
2 half lb patties on a Kaiser bun.
And all the fixins...and some you would never think of.
And 3 types of GRATED cheese.
You did get to choose your toppings, not like they just loaded it on or something.
Eat 2 and the 3rd was FREE!!! :worship:
I could do 1 and a half, but that was it and I REALLY tried!!! :scared1:
And they delivered....but the Grand Slam special didnt apply.

And the sound of High horsepower engines.....shiver.
See you all tomorrow!

Mrs. Fleagle - Big thanks for the great party and super cool touring of many special places. I'm so sorry I fell asleep and missed the end of the party - I'm betting that Cat won the Scrabble game and that HMF said many funny things. I love my new hat!

I picked up a new air freshener for the bus. I thought it would help the driver to stay awake on the next leg since everyone stayed up pretty late at the slumber party.

Keep up the good work.

Harrisburg is literally in the backyard of the Speedway.....so its maybe 4.5 miles from my house.....and not to rub it all in Brad (and since it sadly means almost nothing to me).....I am surrounded by career race people.

Drivers, fabricators, team managers, pit crew "trainers" (I didn't even know that existed and my friend worked for the Panthers as a trainer and then moved over to racing), broadcasters from the speed channel (all but the trainer actually live next door to me).

Sorry, got called away about 11:30pm.

Stephen, I have invited you here before and remember the mess from all of those chocolates :laundy:

So.......the invitation still stands........and this time for 5 Guys burgers but I will wait to order until you are actually here! ;)

On with the tour.........we are going to Charlotte now..... (we had been in Concord, which is just north of the Queen City)....

CAROWINDS.... this amusement park is literally ON the state line between North and South Carolina....when you enter the park, you can have one foot in each state!

The park opened in 1973, spearheaded by Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall, who was inspired to build the park by a 1956 trip to :wizard: DISNEYLAND :wizard: and a dream of bringing the two states closer together.

Previously a "Paramount" park and now a "Cedar Fair" park......big rides, water park and all!

Hey Ann!

I forgot about Carowinds! That was a sister park to King's Dominion where Eric and I met, and King's Island in Cincinnati, Canada's Wonderland, and Great America in California! Did you ever see any shows back in the late 80's early 90's there? King's Productions was very smart. Each year they would introduce a new main stage show at their home park in Cincinnati and then rotate it around the other four parks for the next four years. So there was always a new show introduced....unlike Busch which runs the same shows FOREVER! Kind of interesting. :confused3

Anyway....thanks for that reminder! :yay:

Thanks, Ann!

Having a great time in your part of the world. Especially enjoyed the burgers! :thumbsup2

Still like your park more! And I still haven't been able to read your trip portion yet (maybe you included Kings Dominion???).

Yes, we have been going to Carowinds for years, and everyone in my family is or has been involved in the arts in one way or another (performing to production)....well, we always go and see a show.....where ever we go!

Thanks, Ann!

Thanks for keeping in touch Cathie.....don't know if you read, I haven't been around for a little bit....we had a friend in the ER and I hung out there for them.

We had this for the first time here in GA a couple of weeks back. Very, very good!!!!!!!!

Seriously.......oh my gosh.....I wish I could have one right now!!!

Hi there! Well, did everyone enjoy Carowinds today??

Did you get any ice cream at the park?? I LOVE soft serve ice cream!!!

The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is the world’s premier outdoor recreation and environmental education center. Alongside mountain-biking and running trails, a climbing center, and challenge course, the park’s unique feature is a multiple-channel, customized whitewater river for rafting and canoe/kayak enthusiasts of all abilities.

The USNWC is only 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte and provides over 300 acres of woodlands along the scenic Catawba River. Olympic-caliber athletes, weekend warriors and casual observers share this world-class sports and training center.

Inspired by the successful Penrith Whitewater Stadium built for the 2000 Olympics and the stadium built for the 2004 Athens Games, the USNWC is the world’s only multi-channel recirculating whitewater river. The USOC has designated the USNWC an official U.S. Olympic Training Site.

The national governing body for the sport, USA Canoe and Kayak (USACK) has also designated the Center as its new home. The USNWC hosts World Cup competitions and Olympic Trials, and serves as the home of international Olympic athletes.

On the food theme tour............there is a great restaurant on site (serving yummy wings among other things) that overlooks the water. Just beautiful!

Ready to catch a game??? The Carolina Panthers are in town!

10848.jpg

Or how about the Charlotte Bobcats??

In 2006, it was announced that NBA legend and North Carolina native Michael Jordan would become the second largest shareholder of the Bobcats (BET founder - Robert L. Johnson being the first).

As part of the deal, Jordan became head of basketball operations. Another notable co-owner is the rapper Nelly.

The Panthers' name is said to have served as the inspiration for the NBA expansion franchise, the Charlotte Bobcats.

In addition, Charlotte's public transportation system is popularly known as "CATS" (an acronym for "Charlotte Area Transit System"), and its light-rail line is called "LYNX."

How about the PGA??

The Wachovia Championship brings the PGA TOUR to Charlotte, North Carolina each year during the first week in May.

Since its inauguration in 2003, the Championship has raised over $7.5 million for charity, becoming one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Charlotte region, and has been recognized as one of the top events on the PGA TOUR.

Knee surgery prevented Tiger Woods from attempting to defend his Wachovia Championship title. Anthony Kim didn't disappoint fans at Quail Hollow Club looking for Tiger-like brilliance.

In a near flawless performance, the 22-year-old Kim became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in six years. Following monster drives with flagstick-hitting approach shots and steady putting, Kim shot a 3-under 69 to cruise to five-shot win over Ben Curtis.

Carolina Raptor Center is dedicated to environmental education and the conservation of birds of prey through public education, the rehabilitation of injured, and orphaned raptors and research.
