Have to get to bed, it was a super busy day. At work, I'm still almost a day behind and no way to dig myself out. One secretary is on vacation and one called in sick today. Oh well, tomorrow is a brand new day and will be better. So, after work, I went straight to pick Tyler up, then to pick up a banana for his snack on the way to karate, then to the bank, then to OT, then we had sort of a "dinner date" together at Pizza Hut (he had a free coupon for a personal pizza), then to the store, then home past his bedtime. We both had a great time together at dinner. I remember how I HATED going to restaurants with him, as recently as a year ago. It was just awful and it seemed I never could bring enough things to occupy him. But now he's old enough to enjoy having conversations with, and we were making silly jokes about things, just having fun.

Tomorrow after school is our day to relax. If he has a good day at school, we're going to pick up his tiger scout uniform and handbook. If he doesn't have a good day, no uniform, and he really is eager to get it, so fingers crossed! Still haven't heard when the first meeting is, but I told him he'll be sad if he doesn't have his stuff by then. We do have to go buy a birthday gift to mail to one of his cousins tomorrow. For some reason all 3 of his cousins didn't have a birthday party this year, either that or they just didn't invite us.

OK, just have to share one more thing. On my way to bed, I was looking in Tyler's backpack because he told me just before he fell asleep that he made something about me today when he was with the special ed teacher. He drew a picture of me, I think I'm in front of a stove, not sure, his pictures are horrible to figure out, and it says, "Mom is cooking". POOR KID IS FANTASIZING! I'll have to ask him in the morning exactly WHAT I'm "cooking" and based on his answer, maybe I'll find out that the picture is of me in front of the MICROWAVE! This just made me laugh because of the conversations here about many of us not cooking.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would post something about the stock market and bank scare. As most of you know, I am a geeky accounting nerd. And to make it even worse, I am a former savings and loan bank examiner. I thought I would ring in with my two cents, which, by the way, it exactly what my opinion is officially worth. LOL.

Anyway, with respect to the banks, and the threat of possible failures, as long as you have your accounts structured in such a way that all deposits are FDIC insured, I would not spend anytime worrying. I know that some of the "talking heads" on the financial channels are chicken little and scaring everybody that the sky is falling, but that is their job, to make people tune in and fear will get people watching everytime!

As for the stock market, it is a long term investment. If you are invested in good mutual funds, and plan to stick it out for the long term, then you will come out of this just fine. It is the people who panic and sell out when the market is low that are really hurt in this market. As a matter of fact, I haven't changed my position and I am still putting the same amount in my mutual fund invested 401K as I always have. I like to think that the stock market is marked down or on clearance and I am getting the shares really cheap right now.

I know this sounds really positive and optimistic but I remember all the financial downturns that we have had in the past and how we rebounded and all was well again after a time. I think all will be well again.

so what was the advice of your broker? I have to look back to the dotcom bust and wonder what people will hear and what people will do. I know personally we never thought our stock would devalue like it did. I would assume that people today are thinking the same thing. I told myself that if ever we had the chance to cash in on stock like that again we would, as "cash is King" but now I wonder where do you put the cash and feel safe???

Basically just to sit tight for now. There's really nothing to be done except ride it out.

One difference with the dotcom bubble was that many stocks were trading for so much more than they were worth, pure speculation rather than based on solid fundamental.

I'm not doing anything except sitting tight.

I would think though that during a market like this there are probably some bargains to be picked up.
