With salt around the rim (especially in the winter....)

Quiet night Bubba... I think most of us have given up the ghost for the evening.. which will be me too... today took alot out of everyone...

How's V???

Tell her I said hi! :flower3:

Well.. I'm off...

I leave the thread to the overseas gals!!!

Hi Marilyn!!! :yay: :yay:

Hi Deborah!!! :yay: :yay:

Good morning. Up a little later today.

I was listening to a piece about it on Public Radio this morning, the analysts are not expecting any improvement in over a year.

My broker also called me.

A lot this has to to with relaxing mortgage lending and then the big financial firms investing too heavily in mortgage funds. Well, with the collapse of the mortgage market ... poof.

I am not a great financial mind, so my understanding of these things tends to be limited.

We just keep getting all doom and gloom. I wonder if people actually talk us into much of what happens. I think we have eventually accepted we are going into recession this year after one after another 'expert' told us so, but yesterday a guy came on and said it was going to be a depression, like the 20's!!!:confused3 :sad2:

There is nothing encouraging that seems to be presented to us at the moment.

Hi all,
Yes, I know I sound older today! Began the day with Zoe bringing me a framed picture that she colored - of course, it was the best present ever. Then off to school, then her first pledge of allegence flag ceremony. Then Jonathan and I snuck off to CAdv. to ride the big kid rides. I hadn't been on screamin for a long time. We stayed for 2 hours and picked up some Cheesecake FActory cheesecake and back to carpool. We watched the first Harry Potter (Z's first time!) Very fun, quiet and nice b'day.

How fantastic to just be able to pop to a Disney park like that. I'm jealous. So glad you had such a great and fun day.:)

Oh my gosh, Marilyn, Molly is so adorable! I usually don't like babies and I just want to scoop her up and hug her! :lovestruc

Thanks Holly(and others). Molly is just as she looks, placid and amiable. She sits on your lap and smiles and plays!!!! I'm used to them scrambling down and crawling off and being hard work!!!

Please note the break in the cake, I take that as a big bite was taken from that cake and I blame Ian...I fixed my version and it took me a while to get it
perfectly centered and no bites showing

:lmao: :lmao:

OK, just have to share one more thing. On my way to bed, I was looking in Tyler's backpack because he told me just before he fell asleep that he made something about me today when he was with the special ed teacher. He drew a picture of me, I think I'm in front of a stove, not sure, his pictures are horrible to figure out, and it says, "Mom is cooking". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: POOR KID IS FANTASIZING! I'll have to ask him in the morning exactly WHAT I'm "cooking" and based on his answer, maybe I'll find out that the picture is of me in front of the MICROWAVE! :rotfl: This just made me laugh because of the conversations here about many of us not cooking. ;)

:rotfl: :lmao:

omg - my "work" has $77 million with Lehman - we are hoping..........

:scared1:

There is nothing encouraging that seems to be presented to us at the moment.

It is a very interconnected world economy.

Consumer confidence plays heavily into the state of the economy, so gloom and doom does have an effect.

A depression like the 1920's? I'm not sure about that. Though I did hear an interview with Alan Greenspan yesterday and he said he had not seen a situation like this in his lifetime (and he is an old guy) and that this was an economic event that was a once in a century cyclical event.

Just unfortunate that it's in our part of that century cycle.

So that confirms my thoughts I should move cash over FDIC limits to another bank to insure limits are met. What a pain...but the safe thing to do.

I did this a few weeks ago, and yes, it is a pain. But, I feel warm and fuzzy with those FDIC insurance limits and being under them. Also, spreading money around to different banks will spread the risk also, if one goes down, you have other deposits in banks that are okay.

I agree with the doom and gloom just making it worse. I do feel confident that at some point in the not too distance future, we will see the economy rebound. With the depressed economy, those companies with a less than stellar financial situation will have to sell off assets and or sell out at a reduced price. The stronger companies will step in and take advantage of the fire sale. LOL. There is lots of money to be made in a down market.

This reinvestment will boost the market, and, in the long run, the economy will begin to grow again. At least that is my opinion. Of course, now is not a good time to be retiring, if you have money in the stock market, and not a good time to sell stock. At least this downturn has reinforced the point that we should not invest in individual stocks.

I think for us to see a depression like the 30's, the economic policy that has kept us out of a depression since then, would have to stop working completely. It is an interesting question though. What would have to happen for us to fall into another depression? I don't know the answer.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. ;)

I'm still on call, and you reminded me I can check again (after 5pm) to see what is next...I'll go out to my office and double check and report back.
