It is indeed a Chicago thing. I grew up in NYC and I had never heard of Susie Snowflake, but here in Chicago, you mention it to people and they're off ... singing

 They remember it with such happiness! :confused3

Years ago, the Mom of one of my homecare clients was so pleased that she could tape it for me for Christmas. She HONESTLY thought I would want it.......:rolleyes1 She got the inane elves on the same tape and was so proud of herself.

Each to his own.....

When she finally did understand that I had not seen those things as a child she still thought it was a great gift as Tom would love it. He was from southern Illinois. They did not have it there either :sad2:

anyone want a VCT tape of it?
.

.....
I wish should woulg get it, she has been told Molly's sizes for years and never got it. Unfortunately the jacket was mail ordered and Grandma has no return receipts and she left for WY yesterday. Worst case we will donate it. MIL did give me a gift card to Macy's (Thank heavens she doesn't guess my size  ) so Molly and I will buy her a new coat with that card :thumbsup2 I'm just sad that Grandma doesn't understand the self esteem issue of receiving a clothing gift that never fits. It's like she is telling Molly you're too big :sad2:

:sad2: How well I understand.

that is why I wondered if you talked about little oriental people making these things if it might be something she can remember.

Sad :sad1:

Jan, I had no idea you knew the area. Soooooo funny......John said Jack Creek and I said, no because we don't know if they like the food and they won't know the area and Jack Creek is harder to find.....bla bla bla. That is just so funny that you do know the area and you like Jack Creek too. Let's go there then! Yeah!

We lived in the Spring Garden townhouse apartments 14 years ago and stayed there for four years. We had one with a basement so we had 3 levels in the apartment and all of us lived there.....me, John, the kid, Sandi, Tom and Kris. The grands were only 2 and 3 years old at the time. The early days living in PA. Then we moved into an apartment in an old building across the street from Morovian College. Beautiful area. We loved it there and it was just me and John and the kid living there. Sandi and the boys lived in Bath at that time. Then nine years ago we moved into our house 30 miles north in Saylorsburg. Sandi and the boys moved in there with us and me and John and the kid. We were around the corner from my mom's house in the same town. Things work out for a reason. When looking for a house, I said any town but Saylorsburg because I don't want to run into my mother in the local supermarket. After all is said and done, it was a blessing that we could be so close to her in her late life years.:cloud9:

We lived on Long Island from 1970-1972 where Tom had his first job and I finished college at SUNY--Downstate in Brooklyn. Then we moved back upstate, east of Michelle, for him to do graduate work and me to work. Had our kids there and then moved to Bethlehem in 1987.

We had an apartment in Whitehall for a few months until we could get in our house which was off Nazareth Pike near Freedom High School.

Our older son went to Spring Garden Elementary School for the end of 5th grade, then East Hills Middle School, graduated from Freedom High School and got his BS at Moravian College, Masters at Lehigh and stayed in the Valley. He met his wife at church and they live in Allentown.

Our younger son went to Spring Garden from 2nd-5th, East Hills for 6th and 7th, Bethlehem Christian School for 8th and then we moved to Indiana where he went to High School and College. Now he is back in PA living in Stockertown and working in Bethlehem.

Our older son and his wife had their first real date at Jack Creek so we all love it.

GayGay and V and Bubba we miss you.

Hi Deb, Thanks for the "miss you"

I've been reading some, just not posting. I'm off work today. I was out and got most of my shopping done. Just waiting for something from amazon to arrive and then I should be done.
I'm wrapping gifts now, while I wait for the soft water man to come change the filters on our water system and to see why our water softener system is not working right.:sad2:

I do what to send  to Michelle. I kind of understand what you are going through. My father passed 2 years ago this christmas. I was not close to him and had lost touch many years ago, but it was kind of hard to deal with. And then losing my Mom 8 months later. Anyway, please know that my heart goes out to you.

To all of you who are dealing with the white christmas (or white Federal Holiday:rotfl2: I laughed my a*s off Ian.) please stay safe. We have had rain, snow on our mountains and what to me is COLD. We havent turned on the heater this year, but did flip the switch on the fireplace, which made our old lady cat very happy. She's our heat sucker cat

We have also received some wonderful holiday cards recently. Thanks so much. It has helped get me into the holiday spirit. (which I am in short supply of this year)

Hugs to you too Venetia. I didn't feel like doing Christmas last year and I thought I was going to skip it this year because we're out of town this week. Then Tom came and I told John we have to do Christmas for Tom. So now I'm more into it because Tom is excited too. It's more fun. So I say, borrow a kid and have fun!

I left work today at noon.

I came home and Sukie and I went out to do the grocery shopping today and also out to Costco.

I was a bit nervous about the Smart Car in the snow, not really on the streets but behind our house under the El and in the alley. The allies don't get plowed.

She had a little trouble with the deep snow under the El, but with just a little bit of shoveling we were fine. The transmission is an "automatic manual" so it really shifts like a manual even when driving in the automatic mode. I was able to just keep the car in a low gear.

It certainly wasn't like driving my all wheel drive SUV, which took the snow without any problem at all, but with being careful, and aware, it really wasn't bad either.

People on the street and other drivers seemed amazed by our tiny Mrs. Fezziwig. She not just a sunshine girl, but seems to be a snow bunny as well.

We are now in for the rest of the evening, and possibly for the rest of the weekend.

Hello. I'm still busy and tired and now a little bummed. It seems like I may have applied for the wrong position. Two of the people I work with, that applied for a different job than me, already got the news that they were hired. I didn't apply for this one because it closed before I took my class. They had their interview the same day I did so I could have taken the job since I got the results of my class before the interview. I got a 93% in math and a 96% in English. This job was better than the jobs I was applying for. The secretary of the school did tell me that they weren't going to call anyone for my position until after the holiday because they are off for two weeks like the kids. Anyway, I'm just a little sad. No big deal either way. I just keep going over the interview in my head and it is annoying.

A great big HUG to you from both of us if that makes you feel better. What a bummer.

So Mrs. F didn't go ice skating? ;) Glad to hear she handled herself well. :thumbsup2

I can't say that her tires, didn't spin a bit, but at least she was not fish tailing all over the place. I was also driving very carefully.

You know, there's another storm coming through on Sunday? I suppose it will hit Lansing too?

Something occurred to me when I was downtown earlier today.

There are signs posted outside every office tower "beware of falling ice."

It often happens that ice builds up in chunks and then with the sun, drops off of buildings and hits people. Frequently they are really big chunks and icicles that fall and kill people.

What exactly is the use of the sign? What exactly would one do to take precaution?

Deborah, I got your card today too, thank you! :goodvibes

And thank you to everybody else who have been sending cards. I haven't thanked everybody individually, but this thank you includes everybody! :grouphug: It's such fun to have so many hanging up!

YES! It's supposed to hit here Sunday evening. If it's as bad as this was, I'm not going to work on Monday. They made me so mad today. Our office manager didn't even come in because of the road conditions, and most of the attorneys came very late and only stayed a couple hours and wanted to get home because of the road conditions. Hello? What about us secretaries? When one secretary asked on behalf of all of us if we could leave early too to get safely home before it got much worse, she was told "no, we can't have the office closed". :headache: So 2 of us have already decided we're not coming in on Monday if it's even half as bad as today was.
