Good morning friends.....it's the day before hurricane Sandy arrives. Everyone is saying that it's not the normal hurricane. It's a monster hurricane. It's colliding with a noreaster storm. It's huge. I'm wondering if John is going to make it to work on Monday morning.

On top of that, on the west coast they had a 7.7 earthquake in BC, Canada. WHICH created a tsunami in Honolulu.

What is going on with Mother Nature? She is not happy and she is creating havoc everywhere.

AND Marilyn had snow already! How bizarre!!

We have an appointment at 8:30am to get an estimate for snow removal and excavating our driveway. We need the snow removal since we got rid of our trucks with plows. And we need the excavating so we can get a moving truck up our driveway. Hopefully there won't be a lot of snow this winter and we can get out of here on time. John is saying March 1st for moving day. That seems to make the most sense. It gives John time to be home and pack. It also gives us one month to make sure the financial transitions take place correctly. So our target is March 1.

I'm in a lot of pain in my legs. I have a small area of infection, as compared to the past, on both of my legs. It really hurts. I explain it by saying it's like sandpaper on sunburn. I've been fighting it for many days and finally had to break down and take a half of a vicodin. I only have two more pills left and no refills. If I want to renew the script, I'll have to make an appointment to see my wound doctor again. OUCH! I love him, but hate how his nurses clean the infection and I really see stars. But if I need to renew my perscription, I have to go see the doctor. I dread it and I'm procrastinating.

I'm really sorry about your leg Deb, it just sounds horrible for you to deal with. Sandpaper on sunburn sounds unbearable to me.

Getting pain meds is becoming much harder over there I know from my US chronic pancreatitis pals. Many of them have a really terrible time and many doctors are just stopping prescribing due to all the problems re drug seekers, addictions and the like. Plus they are covering their backs all the time by not prescribing. I hear some heartbreaking stories.

You have a good doctor and I wonder if you can ask if it is necessary for the nurses to clean and dress the wound as you and John can do it when you get back home?

Any news about the storm? Is it hitting tonight? I will be thinking of you all. Michelle, I am thinking you are in the path too so are you preparing? Stay safe.

Hi Marilyn, the infection is burning and rashy and stinging....that's why I say sandpaper on sunburn. It's the nerve endings on the skin surface that causes the pain. The doctor told me that the most amount of nerves are on the surface not deeper under the skin. I feel it.

I don't have a problem getting pain killers because he only renews them about once a year. I don't take them often and when I do I only take a half a pill.....so they really last long. He checks the amount and the last renewal before perscribing them again. He knows it's painful when infected and I should be soaking and that's painful too. Then if I have to go in for an appointment, I need to take vicodin just to get the examination done. Even with all that....he only has to renew the script about once a year. So I'm fine.

The nurses clean, measure, take a picture and ready the wound for the doctor to come in and examine. Sometimes the nurses take a culture. The doctor never touches my wound. Only the nurses do. After the exam with the doctor, then the nurses wrap the leg(s) again to send me out the door.
It's all very painful and I know it so the apprehension is even worse. I never want to go there.

The storm is about 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina right now and the surf is tremendous. They expect it to hit land in New Jersey around Atlantic City about rush hour tomorrow. They are starting mandatory evacuations and they are talking about shutting down mass transit in New York City. WOW!!! The city never shuts down.

I'm worried about John going to work on Monday morning. And if he makes it in then I'm worried that he won't make it home or even worse, be allowed to leave to come home. He's considered a mandatory emergency employee because he works with the fire alarm systems on campus. When electric meets water it's never a good thing and the University tends to flood a lot. They have made it mandatory that he is not allowed to leave if he makes it there....they have done that before. I'm sure it will be the same for this storm since it is going to be so much worse than any before. They said that Sandy has a 1,000 mile radius. WOW!!! That's huge.

The initial impact of 60-80 mile an hour winds is supposed to reach as far off the coast as my house and I'm a state away. Along with the wind we are due to get heavy rains and floods. Fortunately, we are not near the coast to get the initial sea surge.

Sandy is coming and she's going to make history and break all records for storms.

We've been prepping for hurricane Sandy. We got water and gas for the generator and gas for the grill. Our stove is electric and they are telling us to expect to lose electric for a number of days, possibly a week. John is going out today to buy sandwich food and canned food. We have eggs that we can cook on the grill. We have to fill up all the cars with gas and get cash out because the gas pumps won't work without electric and neither will the cash machines. Then we need batteries for all the flashlights. The candles are ready and my cell phone will be fully charged. I have the car charger if I need it. I've got my electric bill out so that I can report any downed wires or loss of electric.

We are prepped and almost ready for Sandy to hit.

I am the same with being very careful with the pain medication so I think I am fine so far with my GP and pharmacy. Even in the UK they are cutting down such a lot but that is more due to costs to the National Health Service I think. I don't think anyone would be turned away(unless known drug abusers) like I hear of happening elsewhere but it might come. Much of the problems I hear about are chronic pancreatitis related of course and the fact that the medical profession don't know enough about it and how to treat patients. That also is similar here but my GP is excellent and we think he must have treated some when doing his hospital work as a young doctor as it is still rare and GP's can go through their life and never see a patient with it.

Looks like you can't get out of the nurses dealing with your leg Deb so take the med at the right time so it isn't as bad.

The storm sounds horrendous. I have seen bits about it on FB etc but thought it was going to be a monster.

Deb, sorry about your pain. Huge hugs to you! Not what you need on top of storm prep.

I can't even begin to imagine a storm like that and would have no idea how to prepare. You sound like you're a seasoned pro with getting ready! So glad you know what to do. I'm worried for John too after reading all you've said. :( Quite a nightmare!

I didn't stick around to sell popcorn this morning because the moms of the 2 boys there felt it wouldn't be fair to share sales with Tyler when he's not sitting there selling. Justifiable. The scout master took me off to the side to talk about it and told me he tried to make this work because he sees Chuck not participating. He also told me he was concerned because "That woman who brought Tyler to scouts this week" mentioned that they're moving soon. "That woman " was stepmom, LOL! I told him it's my plan to try to convince them to let me take Tyler to scouts on the weeks he's with them so Tyler won't have to leave his friends. He had some unkind words to share about Chuck. Funny, that's the same reaction I've always gotten from all teachers too. But I just bit my tongue and told him I didn't want to bash anybody. ;)

Had a dream (or maybe i should say nightmare) last night that Chuck and I decided we wanted Tyler to have a sibling that's "full-blooded ", not just half, so we....um....made that happen. YUCK! LOL!

Deb, you mentioned a tsunami in Hawaii. Isn't the DCL Hawaii cruise going on right now?

And speaking of Hawaii cruise, how sad hearing about somebody from our cruise getting a diagnosis of inoperable stage 4 cancer. Judy? I never met her, but how awful. Things like that sure put the rest of our problems in perspective. :(

I think I saw that the tsunami warning was cancelled Holly. I also think the Wonder arrived back in LA today so they should be OK. A friend onboard was in Ensenada yesterday.

What a nightmare of a nightmare that was Holly!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Good news! I'm so out of touch with which ship is where on any given day, LOL!

Gearing up for a busy but fun week! We will go door to door selling popcorn when Tyler comes home tonight, there's trick or treating at businesses downtown tomorrow after work, more popcorn selling Tuesday evening, Halloween fun Wednesday, Thursday is the Halloween party at scouts, then Friday I'm hoping to take Tyler to a movie or rent a movie at home, depending on what we feel up to (unless he wants to sell more popcorn). Saturday and Sunday we will be raking leaves if the weather cooperates and putting Halloween decorations away.

Wow! I think I found somebody I met in London in the summer of 1987 on FB! He was a boy from Oslo, Norway and we spent 3 days hanging out in London, got to know each other very well (innocently, of course, as we were both just teenagers). We spent a year writing letters, and he even sent me some neat gifts from Norway, even talked on the phone a couple times. But he was in the Norwegian Navy and about to go on a submarine for an extended period for training and we lost touch. I've tried to Google him over the years with no luck. Haven't checked FB for a few years for him, but he popped into my mind today, so I did a search and I knew it by his eyes. Bald now, but the eyes gave him away! So I just messaged him to see if he even remembers me. I also dug out pictures of us from back then and attached to a message. How cool! Will be fun to see how his life turned out. :thumbsup2

I'll post and read more later...

As most may have heard... I took a header off the porch at my sil's mother's house yesterday...(Marilyn... translation... I fell) was walking out to catch up with my brother and never even saw the small step that goes between the porch and the walkway... it was only about a 4 inch step... but it was enough to send me flying. Twisted my ankle pretty bad...thought I was going to faint... skinned both knees, palms of my hands got scraped and I hit my head so I have some scratches and black and blue above my eyebrow. no headache so I didn't worry about the head too much.. I was singing all the songs on the way home to myself.. I figured if I couldn't remember the words.. then I would get my head checked...lol

can't walk too well.. pretty sore everywhere... gonna stay off the ankle and am icing it on and off.

The QM is wonderfully taking care of me... and drove the whole way home last night... :thumbsup2 (and even went out and braved Walmart for supplies...)

Holy crap Michelle! Hope you heal quickly.

thanks Holly... I'm laying off the tap dancing for a few days...

All my candy from trick or treating last week is GONE. And I behaved and didn't even touch Tyler's stash while he was at his dad's. Good thing there is trick or treating tomorrow! :)

We bought stuff we didn't like...

and we might get stuck with it... :confused3
