Got off the phone with Air Canada rep.
She says that a layover with them is considered 4 hours. Therefore, I will have to claim my bags after each leg and then recheck them for the next leg.
However, Air Canada within Canada allows me to check two bags no charge.
Canada to US I am allowed 1 bag no charge on Air Canada.
United Airlines will charge $25 for the first bag and $35 for the second.
So if we go with 1 checked bag each it will cost us $50 to get the bags from Seattle to San Diego but $0 to go from PG to Seattle.
Highly interesting. Are you Americans not liking to change your clothes on vacations? Why would you book a flight to someplace and not have any checked luggage?

On the flipside, here in Canada if you are going to travel anywhere you can take extra stuff, but if you are heading south like on a vacation you need to take less. Guess we can consider it the colder weather allowance

Because you know, when I travel to Vancouver (one of the warmest locales in Canada) i need to take more clothes than when I travel to Chicago in the middle of winter...
