Well i'm glad you are feeling brighter today Holly.:thumbsup2 Sounds like a fun evening you have planned.

I really think the stress was just wearing me down and I was sleeping so much because my body was telling me it had had enough. And I think I finally caught up (at least I hope). No lunchtime naps at all this past week. :thumbsup2 And I didn't oversleep any days either. :goodvibes

The National health care in Canada is good for the reasons you state. It is there for the poor and the rich alike. Unfortunately it isn't all it is cracked up to be. One example is that many of the prescriptions aren't covered by the health plan, so while a person can go and see a doctor and get diagnosed, they still might not be able to afford the prescription.

The other major downside to the national health system is the problem we are facing here in Canada, where you cannot get in to see a doctor. Doctors are seeing so many people that there can be really long delays in getting into see a doctor or getting the necessary operations you may need. We have huge wait times that is the focus of many a political discussion. It is a large debate if we should start to adopt a two-tiered healthcare system. Many people that can afford it or are desperate enough are going to the US or to Europe to get the treatment they require because the wait list here is far too long.

You will hear many stories on the "free" medical system of people using up appointment times because of a "hang nail". For some individuals, they go and see the doctor just as part of the regular routine to get out of the house and talk to someone.

And of course one of the issues with a national system is that the prices the doctors can charge is set by the government, thus we lose some of our doctors to the US and other nations where they can set their own fees and feel they can make more money.

When I lived in the UK, the employees who were permanent over there (regardless of nationality) had a "blended" health benefit, meaning company provided health insurance that supplemented the national plan. So, you could avoid a waiting list.

The nicest part about national health insurance, which I had in the UK, was the idea that if there was anything really terrible or if you lost your job, you still had coverage of some kind.

OK, I've told you guys about this before and I am going to tell you again.

If you use Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites, you really ought to get the Flock browser.

It is SO MUCH better for those sorts of social networking sites, simply because of the way it lays everything out.

I have to finish watching "The Suite Life of Zach & Cody" before I go get my tires. :rotfl2: On Saturdays, before I started sleeping them away, I would watch that show and "Power Rangers-Jungle Fury" every week. :rotfl2: But now I hear that "The Suite Life" takes place on a cruise ship! So I need to get cable soon so I can watch that. The ones I see are just old episodes shown on ABC.

The gasman has come and gone. I guess we're good for another 20 years.

Now we are FREE! We can leave the house!

Woohoo! :cool1: I never knew that gas inspections were done until your posts about it. Enjoy your day!

Yes, our supplemented plans tend to add things to our coverage. Basic medical here is free if you can't afford it. But employers can add things like dental (which is not part of basic medical), travel medical insurance, prescription coverage, optometrist coverage and the like.

Our Basic medical coverage does cost people above a certain income level. So it is possible that a Canadian who makes above that income level could have no coverage but that would be of their own choice. Shannon's employer covers that cost for us as part of her taxable benefits, which is common amongst employers who offer benefits.

Michael Moore's "Sicko", IIRC, had a few mistakes in it when he talked about the Canadian health system and was trying to showcase it against the US system.

Ian, I'm finally seeing what you mean about Facebook being a bit creepy. I haven't been on it in a while, but this morning I just received 2 email notifications that 2 people I went to high school with have asked to add me as "friends". These are 2 girls I was never friends with. I occasionally would say hi in passing to one, and the other, I never even talked to I don't think. Anybody I wanted to stay in contact with, I have stayed in contact with. And I've also reconnected with a few friends I got caught up with at our 20 year high school reunion. But these 2 girls were not even at the reunion and I haven't seen them since we graduated in 1988. I will be ignoring their requests. It might sound mean, but I have no interest in chatting with somebody I barely knew over 20 years ago.

Morning kids! Haven't caught up on about 12 pages yet. Somehow it went from 7:30 am to 10 am without me noticing (playing on Facebook)

Ian....you should have an e-mail from Peg. She's staying put! :thumbsup2

I really think some people add "friends" just for the sake of getting more and more "friends" on their list. I have a few that I went to high school with that sent me a friend request, but I don't remember having much more of a conversation with other than "can I borrow your eraser". I accepted their request simply because - well I didn't really care and if they want to look like they have lots of friends, then so be it. No skin off my back. But I do get a chuckle when I get a request from someone I barely remember or were simply a face in the crowd in the grad photo ...

At some point in the future....can we chat on the phone about this? I'm so technology challenged.

It is kind of funny, but I think I'll just ignore. I only joined it to be able to catch up with everybody from our cruise, but was happy to reconnect with some friends who've moved to other states. :thumbsup2 And my childhood best friend, we met when I was 4 and stayed super close until our early 20s when we had a falling out over a guy, we've slowly been trying to rebuild the friendship for about 5 years, well, her little brother just sent me a friend request a couple of days ago. She and I used to terrorize him like crazy when we were kids! :rotfl2: He turned into a very handsome guy! :goodvibes He never married, but had an "oops" like I did with Tyler, and he's now dad to a 1 or 2 year old.

That's the good side of FaceBook! :thumbsup2

OK, I just HAD to watch one episode of Power Rangers Jungle Fury. One of the bad guys, Dai Shi, is very cute! :rotfl2: There's another episode just starting, but I have to pull myself away and head out to Firestone for tires, go pick up our pit passes for tonight, and go get groceries. Catch you all later! :goodvibes

Oh, and I'm going to TV shop a bit. Won't buy until next weekend probably, and I think I've decided on the one I want, but just want to look a bit more just in case. I can't wait! It will be so nice to have a clear picture (my current old clunker has one green and one orange vertical stripe right next to each other a bit left of center screen, so it's VERY distracting). Not getting a giant TV, just 27inch, but that will be much better than my 19inch. :thumbsup2

The name of our gas company is, "People's Gas."

What were they thinking when they named that utility?

:rotfl2: That puts a ridiculous picture in my head, of a row of people hooked up to machines, keeping the gas lines full of people's gas :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I think I should have slept longer. :rotfl2:

Okay, I'm off to do some painting before taking the girls swimming.

disappointment morning here....Paul's mom called yesterday and made a date with Molly for a beading class for this morning. Well she called about an hour ago and told me that she didn't know where Dick (FIL) went and we'd have to do it again another day. I suspect she had been drinking, as it sounded so in her voice. Molly of course was let down again. I had to call Paul to tell him (he is working at a coffee shop) and he is mad and wants to confront her, but it's a lost cause. I'm thinking that I might start keeping a log, so that everyone (well us at least) can see how often she agrees to stuff, even creates events and then fails to come for them...so sad and hard to explain to a child :sad2:

Nan, sorry to hear about Molly's disappointment. Please pass on  and :flower3: to her.

I find it sort of creepy, like the friend request from someone I knew in 1972, and who dumped me as a friend.
