Going for pizza was kind of a novelty in the early 70's when we lived in Tucson. There were only a couple of places that served it. Does anyone remember Shakey's Pizza Parlor, with the ragtime piano player?

Don't forget that salaries were MUCH lower then. My take home pay for my first job out of school was $115 a week, and I was already out on my own, and so I had to pay for rent, food, utilities and carfare out of that.

Also, many of my contemporaries will tell you how horrible the recession (with inflation) was in the '70's and how horrible the job market was.

(OK - who else here is old enough to remember WIN? Whip Inflation Now?)

No, but I bet your niece and I could get together and discuss the merits of Saturday morning cartoons in the 70's... "Conjunction Junction... What's your Function..."

Today I got a DVC Mexican Riviera pin in the mail. The Card said:

We're thrilled that you joined us on our unforgettable journey to the Mexican Riviera, blah blah blah. We're thanking our Members by giving you this limited release pin so exclusive only one is provided per family.....

I guess all DVC members who take the Mexican Riviera cruise will get one.

As for me, I went back to the doctor for a recheck on my medications, my happy pill for the morning and my sleepy pill for night. She is doubling my happy pill, apparently I am not happy enough. And she is changing my sleeping pill to something less addictive. Which is a good thing.

Things at home are the same as most other people with a tween and a teen living in them. Only magnified because of the grief. My daughter has been expressing her grief more than before which is a good thing. My son has been too but I think it is much much harder on him. Yesterday he told me that it was only in the last six months or so before his Dad died that he finally realized how much his Dad loved him. Which of course made me cry and cry.

I remember why I loved you so much now.....You have such a wonderful way way of putting life in perspective.

I hope and pray as the days go on, your life and the lives of your children will get a little easier.....

We do! 16% interest for home loan and 23% inflation rate and gas lines. Wasn't pretty!

Tammy, I'm a DVC member and I have received absolutely nothing except a magnet.

By now I think DCL owes me a boat load of stuff (no pun intended).

No... I think the pun was a good one... I'd settle for just about anything they send since it will be a novelty to me...

I just feel like the worst mom. Annie Vanessa Gretchen and I are shopping. I cry every time I look at Vanessa. She leaves in 12 hours. The girls are in Claires looking for Best Friend necklaces to remember each other by.


How in the world did I allow myself to get so attached.

Because you love, that's why... It's like the Tin Man said... He knew he had a heart because it was breaking...

You'll always have her Lisa... and now a days...technology makes it so easy to stay in touch and you will see each other again. I know that much.

I was extremely happy just having a little extra money to go out for a bagel and coffee with friends (before coffee got fancy).

Of course many things were simpler, then, weren't they? I mean, telephones had rotary dials, when you called someone and they were on the phone you got a busy signal, no telephone answering machines, and no telemarketers.

(Why I am stuck on a stroll down telephone memory lane, is beyond me)

You know... the lobby phones at the Grand Cal were ROTARY phones... really sucked when they told you to push 1 for guest services...

Well we are at the Beach but the trip has been rough so far. I was stung by a jellyfish today at around the same time my dad(back in TN) was taken to the hospital. I am still going to have a good trip though as he has done this before.

Oh... Jill... take care of yourself... and when you see anymore jelly fish... tell them to go away!!!

Tammy... I know Times may be tough, but your kids will get better one day at a time. It's nice to know your son realized how much he meant to his dad... I'm sure it was mutual.

When I was 47 Betsy was 26!

By the time you go through empty nest syndrome, Kelly, you'll be too old to care.......just kidding......only 60 and if you're healthy and fit.....no problems. Gaylean will just be extremely young when it's her turn.

That was the plan - have the kid while we were young so when she was gone we could afford to travel and do things that we couldn't until she reached her teens.

ok I'm sorry Kelly but that is really funny...

Yep, we started as late as possible. Got everything out of our systems, travelled extensively with Broadway shows, comedy clubs, TV shows, new businesses and didn't meet until I was 33 and he was 39.

SSSHHHH Jonathan was 47 when Zoe was born!!!

Here's the funny thing...My parents told my high school counselor that I'd never finish high school because I'd get pregnant... I showed them I waited till I was 40 to get pg!!!! My mom was 19 when she had me and spent her entire life regretting what she missed, I guess I was determined not to do that.

The funnier thing is that I'm the average age mom of the Kinder class!!! And all of my friends waiting until they were late 30's to have kids, so that worked out great.

Yes, later this summer when we revamp the whole website. That would be a great thing for you Holly, it would help Tyler focus and realize his accomplishments. I'll get you some more info this summer. And it sounds like Kaylee has some good advice too. We are really trying to focus on what we learn from other parents about what works and does not work with prevention.

I am in Destin, FL and doing much better. My step-dad is a dr. and put some foam on it and its gone down but still a little sore.

My dad over-dosed. He has done this before. My cousin is keeping me up to date. They will take him off his ventilator in 2 days and see what happens. My dad and I arn't close at all, he is more like an uncle. My mom is furious with him now. My step-dad has rasied me for the past 20 years (I am 24) and before that my mom was all I had.

Tammy, my heart goes out to you and your kids. I can relate to some extent, but I was an adult when I lost my dad. However, I felt that in just the few months before he died, I had connected with him on a deeper level than I ever had before. I also know my brother, on the other hand, had a lot of "unfinished business" to deal with. As has already been said, thank goodness he did have the realization before his dad was gone. I'm so glad I had a chance to get to know Chris. He's a neat kid! Of course, Layla is too! You all will be in my prayers.
