Well, since you brought it up....
In later years, when he was working as a pharmacist and I was teaching we often looked back at that time and laughed about how we really didn't feel "poor". I think we just lived within our means and still felt we had what we wanted--we just didn't want much, probably because we knew where we stood financially. And yes, we were happy! Sappy, but true!![]()
I was extremely happy just having a little extra money to go out for a bagel and coffee with friends (before coffee got fancy).
Of course many things were simpler, then, weren't they? I mean, telephones had rotary dials, when you called someone and they were on the phone you got a busy signal, no telephone answering machines, and no telemarketers.
(Why I am stuck on a stroll down telephone memory lane, is beyond me)
