Ways to maximize savings when purchasing direct DVC contract.. (credit card rewards etc)

I’m not opposed to business cards as i’ve been looking at Chase ink and Amex Plat business cards.
Business cards tend to give you the most bonuses. I got an Amex business platinum 250k bonus. Business gold 200k. Chase ink preferred.

A big way to boost points bonus is by having you and your husband refer each other. Once you have the card you can send a referral link for your husband to apply.

The Chase ink preferred you will get 3x points for DVC. Chase ink unlimited 1.5x points. Amex Business platinum 1.5x if the charge is over 5k. Amex Buisness gold 1x.

The Chase business cards tend to give lower limits and Amex has large limits.

Amex business gold has 0% for 6 months which is helpful.

Personal chase sapphire preferred has an elevated offer right now too. This card earns 2x on DVC.

I believe the Sapphire Preferred is 2x for travel (which DVC dues code as, thankfully!), 3x is the Sapphire Reserve.

Just checked you are right. I had downgraded that card and didnt even realize that. It wasnt part of my recent card line up for my purchase, glad I didnt accidentally use it. I will edit, thanks!!

For my last purchase I opened the Amex Platinum Business and the Chase Ink Preferred and got a ton of points. Depending how much you need to pay you can open a few more cards if you time it right.

I got an Amex business platinum 250k bonus.
250K Amex MRs are the way to go. Those will go a long way in getting you flights to and from Disney. Not to mention you can get 200 in airline incidentals and 200 free dollars towards a Dell purchase (although that will probably end this year) and a few other nice perks. A direct DVC purchase will take care of that $20k spend pretty easily. The business Gold isn't bad either if you're still able to find the 200k offer.

regarding the Chase Pay Over Time feature. I’ve never used it. I have a sapphire Reserve that I made my deposit payment on since I read that it codes as travel. I noticed the transaction was Pay Over Time eligible so I clicked into it, and I can set it up for 18 months with no fees and no interest.

Do I only get one freebie? I’m curious if I should make something like a $10k payment towards my balance and choose that for Pay Over Time. I’d rather get a new card obviously but it wouldn’t be a bad option to float for 18-months and let me make payments so I can have more cash on hand earning interest.

Usually is the first one per card. Not 100% guaranteed.

They also send targeted offers from time to time, but those aren’t as common.

My issue is I use that card for business, so I never get to use it for travel... only get to use the rewards for travel. :(

Only 1 freebie usually. But it seems that they aren’t offering it currently.

You can have more than one of the same card at a time :) the annual fee is steep though for 2 platinums. The gold isn’t as bad and has great dining rewards, and once a month free $20 Disney gift card from the office supply store

Did you apply for the gold business first? I think I read some place that if you get the business platinum first, you are not eligible for the gold business SUB.

I did get the gold first but the rule for gold having to come before platinum only applies to personal cards not the business cards.

FYI - the free My Chase Plan is available again on my personal Sapphire Reserve card but not on my Business Ink Preferred card so it may be random whether it's an option for you or not. I have not used a MCP on any card yet so that doesn't appear to be the only factor whether free plans are offered.

Good to know. I will have to look if mine came back on my personal. It's for sure not there on my business.

Edit: the no fee pay over time is back on my personal card that was previously offering it. Still a no go on the business card unfortunately.

Fingers crossed its an option in a week when my final payment goes through! I'm all for maximizing my cash if it's an option. I'm sure in 20 years I'll be laughing at the decisions I wasted time messing with over a few hundred dollars in savings!

I'm trying to devise my strategy on which cards to apply for first to maximize subs, but to also get the actual cards that I need. Worried that too many inquiries will stop me from getting the cards that will give me the most bang for my buck right now. Also wondering if it makes sense to get the business cards since I probably will not keep them after the first year since the benefits will not exceed the annual fees.

Some of them may be beneficial. Some may not.

Chase biz annual fees are low. The Business Unlimited is no annual fee but in order to redeem for point transfers you have to hold another card with Chase that is eligible for transfers.

The Amex Business cards fees are about the same as the personal cards fees. Both have many benefits that offset the annual fee. Cell phone bill credits, walmart plus credits, office store credits, clear etc. I know I will keep the Gold for sure, still deciding on the Platinum. We probably dine out more than we should so the 4X on dining is very beneficial for us and so far I have had success with a Disney gift card purchase crediting at staples every month of $20, that benefit is $240 of the annual fee. Time will tell but I think I really like the 35% point back credit that platinum gives, so far when checking Delta flights that is always cheaper than the 15% discount Delta gives with their card.

Many like the Capital One Venture cards. That one wasn't great for me but might be worth looking into.

The personal sapphire preferred personal is what all of the major credit card bloggers recommend highly.

Also if you haven't seen this thread on the boards it's very good with a lot of knowledgeable members. https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...r-addl-details.3905155/page-943#post-65815264

I do have the option to pay over time with my Chase Sapphire Reserve at 0% currently. My DVC contract deposit payment is showing as eligible. At only $1,800, I'd almost rather make a larger payment like $10k and use pay over time on that. At worst, if the purchase isn't eligible, I'll get 3x since it's a travel purchase.

Unfortunately, due to Chase 5/24 rule, I can't open a new card until December 1st. My 90 day close window is the end of January, so I still have hope I can open at least one Chase card to put a good chunk of the $30k balance on. I'm ideally looking at the Chase Southwest Business card so I can make a play towards the 130k RR needed to get companion pass (an 80k bonus and $20k spend would get me a good way there).

The Chase Disney Visa isn't a terrible choice, but I do think the card is average at best in terms of a daily driver. This is because there are plenty of cards (like the Citi Double Cash or the Capital One Venture X) that offer 2% on all purchases, so why should I get excited about a card that only earns that on dining and groceries? It would be one thing if the card had great perks, but the discount on dining at Disney restaurants is the same that my DVC membership provides or even the Disney debit with a free Chase checking. I wish the Disney Visa let you redeem points at an increased value towards Disney park tickets--something like 1.5cpp. Honestly, the only great ongoing value it provides is the 0% APR on Disney vacation purchases--letting you pay your dues and paying on your own schedule is an OK'ish perk for a $49 annual fee. Does the 0% APR work for purchases of park tickets too? I typically either buy those from a site like Undercover Tourist or I buy Disney gift cards when they are on sale at places like Sam's Club and Costco--so I'm not sure if that would be the best way to use the 0% APR feature anyways.

Despire my qualms with the Disney Visa--I'd get the $400 sign up bonus and 6-months at 0% APR--but that also would move me back to 5/24 and ineligible for more Chase cards until February (keep in mind, it's usually recommended to space Chase applications out by 90 days anyways, I have been successful poking and prodding in the past and have gotten 3 Chase approvals in 31 days before). Also, if any of the Ink cards are offering 12-months of 0% APR on top of their usually better offers of 90k, I'd be a fool to not start with that and just try to get the SW Business card in February or so (we have no planned travel in early 2025 so I'm not in a huge rush to get the companion pass--but locking it down for the entirety of 2025/2026 would be a weight off my shoulders).

Realistically I think I might do the SW Biz card on 12/1, then the Disney Visa in January. If I'm denied in January, no sweat--I'll get that card when I can. My main priority for the first approval is making the spend count. I already have $9k I can float on my Discover at 0% APR for 6-months (targeted offer for me), and I know I can float on my CSR for 18-months--so my main goal here is finding a good bonus I can get and pay off immediately.

Sadly I've been in Amex PUJ for quite some time--here and there I'll find a working link for a Biz Gold or Biz Plat but it's been a while.

Yes it seems like they have brought back the 0 fee pay over time on personal cards. Getting 3x is nice along with the no fee pay over time.

The southwest CP is an amazing deal if Southwest is a good carrier for you. I wish it was for me, I would have for sure jumped on it.

I have a Disney Visa I got when making a pre DVC last minute cash stay. I thought it was an easy $400 saved on the trip and that I would get 0% for 6 months and get to keep my 5K in the bank for 6 months. I did not. DVC does get you 0% for 6 months but there are certain guidelines to follow for 0% when buying tickets, booking cash rooms etc, I fought for it but they declined to give it to me even though Im confident I followed the guidelines.

Yes, lucky for me we have a pretty big Southwest presence at my local airport, and 3 direct flights to Orlando every day.

I noticed the Disney Visa 0% APR says "Disney vacation packages" so it's good that DVC purchases and dues payments count, but I figured they'd be sneaky and not allow cash bookings and tickets, unless it was a part of some kind of vacation package.
