Ways to maximize savings when purchasing direct DVC contract.. (credit card rewards etc)

Yes, lucky for me we have a pretty big Southwest presence at my local airport, and 3 direct flights to Orlando every day.

I noticed the Disney Visa 0% APR says "Disney vacation packages" so it's good that DVC purchases and dues payments count, but I figured they'd be sneaky and not allow cash bookings and tickets, unless it was a part of some kind of vacation package.
And when you call CS they have no idea what the 0% offer is. Decided it wasnt worth my energy to fight any longer so they gave me a credit of my annual fee and I said fine and gave up. But I would never use it for tickets or anything other than DVC again expecting 0%. Pretty sure I have seen DP that cruises will for sure trigger the 0% too.

regarding the Chase Pay Over Time feature. I’ve never used it. I have a sapphire Reserve that I made my deposit payment on since I read that it codes as travel. I noticed the transaction was Pay Over Time eligible so I clicked into it, and I can set it up for 18 months with no fees and no interest.

Do I only get one freebie? I’m curious if I should make something like a $10k payment towards my balance and choose that for Pay Over Time. I’d rather get a new card obviously but it wouldn’t be a bad option to float for 18-months and let me make payments so I can have more cash on hand earning interest.
Providing an update here in case anyone finds it valuable.

Since my initial escrow down payment of roughly $1,700 was showing up as pay-over-time eligible, and I could pick an option with 0% interest, I decided to make a large purchase towards my owed balance (I just bought a direct contract) with the hopes of locking in the 0% for 12-18 months. However, I only had a $10k limit on my CSR.

I moved $10k of credit from my World of Hyatt card to my CSR--giving me a $20k credit limit. I then called in and made a $15k purchase towards what I owed.

The transaction posted Friday, and said it was POT eligible--but *gasp*, it is showing me a monthly transaction fee for all available options! However, I can still select the $1,700 purchase with 0%. So for whatever reason, perhaps my payment was too much or exceeded whatever POT 0% balance I was eligible for.

Oh well, at least I'm getting 45k Chase points. I'll be opening a new Chase card or two come December and hope to put the remainder there.

I've been eying this as well. I have a 0% offer from Chase, same thing, up to 24 months. It would also work--I believe--with a $7,500 deposit at Mason. Does anyone know what the limits are for this offer?

I noticed I have the free plan also. I’m planning a purchase late December/early Jan. Going to put the spend needed for the Southwest SUP for the CP and the rest is going to the CSP for the free 24 months financing.

Just FYI - people in other threads have said this thread disappears if you don't use it somewhat quickly. Not sure how long it stays there. Maybe a few months?

I tried using their tool to check what the fees would be on various purchases, but all show a fee--it seems there is no way to check/verify what purchases would qualify for the 0%.

I ended up just using the 0% on the $1,700 payment. Better than nothing!

Thanks for the DP. I think it's probably because it's credit that was transferred over from another card, so basically what you said possibly only available up to your original credit line. I wish Chase would be more clear with the POT, like "hey you have a POT offer for no transaction fee up to XX dollars by XX date"

But yes Chase gives the best back at 3X points :) Still pretty great deal when buying direct.

I wondered that too (if a $10k payment would have worked at 0%). I also wish Chase would let you do a partial amount of the transaction at 0%. But yes, oh well, I’ll take the 3X.

Selecting partial would be a great idea to have as an option. You could possibly see if Disney is willing to refund and re charge at 10k, you never know they might be willing.

I have a credit limit on my CSR of 20k+ and just had a 14k DVC purchase just post today and I have the same results. As of today, older, smaller purchases are eligible for 0 fee payment options but my 14k purchase would include monthly fees. Looks like Chase is limiting the size of free plans. Disappointed but I still got 3% back on the purchase so better than other card options. I may still call next month before my payment is due and see if there a free plan can be executed.

Either the rules for this have changed (likely) or chase is coding DVC direct as a category outside of the promotion. In the past, I've seen people put hefty amounts on a 24-month no interest deal.

I broke up our payments on 3 contracts over 2 months, 2,500 each. This was a mistake. I was able to 1 of the charges at no interest for 24 months but then when I went to the second one it wanted to charge me fees for it, that basically amounted to like 20% interest, no thanks. I wish I had done one contract with a single large amount and could have used that for the pay over time. Not sure where they cap it, but again 2,500 worked no problem.

I think Chase is slowing down with a lot of promos lately so maybe the fee free pay over time limit is one thing they have chosen to change.

2 updates from me…

Update 1. Made my 2nd redemption with points earned from my direct purchase, the value was 1.27 cents per point. Not amazing but still exceeds my original math of 1 cent valuation. It’s hard to get maximum value for domestic flights especially when you want to fly on specific dates.

Update 2. I have a new resale contract and Fidelity National Title does not take credit cards for the deposit. :(

Business cards tend to give you the most bonuses. I got an Amex business platinum 250k bonus. Business gold 200k. Chase ink preferred.
Question about this. It's my first time. The Amex business cards have a high spend requirement for the SUB which is perfect for DVC. It's such a large amount compared to normal spend. Are there any issues for this charge to get approved? Also, do people apply to these cc's before talking to a DVC guide so that payment is ready?

As always, it will depend on the credit limit issued as to what is approved.

If you have made up your mind and are going to be purchasing that it is smart to have already applied and received the card that you intend on using as they will require payment. Many people have successfully been able to split their payments up so that way you could pay a portion of the credit card to free up more credit if you didn’t have enough or in terms of the Disney card extend the 0% a few months.

AMEX is unique in that there is no credit limit. Others are using it for DVC but wondering if there is an actual cap since its newly opened card and no spending habits set yet ( I believe the "limit" is based on spending habits ).

Okay, sounds like I should just open it beforehand. Thanks

Depends your history with Amex. They allow you to test if the charge will go through the app. Amex is geared more towards high spenders so they tend to allow more than others.

I’ve never had any issues with large amounts with them. But if you want to charge $20k for your first transaction ever with them, they might have an issue.

There’s a limit for the charge cards. The no limit things is just marketing. The difference is the hidden limit is dynamic and changes based on their perceived “risk” for each cardholder.
