Ways to maximize savings when purchasing direct DVC contract.. (credit card rewards etc)

Question about this. It's my first time. The Amex business cards have a high spend requirement for the SUB which is perfect for DVC. It's such a large amount compared to normal spend. Are there any issues for this charge to get approved? Also, do people apply to these cc's before talking to a DVC guide so that payment is ready?
So with Amex charge cards, there's no limit but yet it still has a limit, it means charges can be approved over that amount its not a strict credit limit like typical credit cards. I had no issues. I did also split my payments to DVC over 90 days, so I charged across multiple cards multiple times. I wanted to maximize my sub so I actually used 8 different credit cards total. If getting multiple new cards I wouldn't apply for all at once since you have 90 days to pay off the DVC loan. Amex gives card numbers immediately, but physical cards arrive within about 10 days, Chase I had my cards within 3-7 days.

Rest assured, the AMEX computers have a Do Not Exceed number next to your account. It may or may not change based on many factors, and they generally won't tell you what it is.

They will let you "check" a purchase limit in advance to see if it would go through. I vaguely recall that they also promise a time window over which that purchase will be approved. I want to say it's a week or two, but can't remember as it's been a while since I've tested it.

Oh, I thought you had to pay it off the day you sign which was my plan. I haven't gone through the process at all. You mentioned a loan, so you got a loan thru Disney and then paid off the loan with cc? Didn't think you could pay a loan with cc. Sorry, confused on how the payment works with DVC.

No I didn’t chose the loan option which they do have so be sure to not get it confused when purchasing.

When you purchase just ask your guide to split the payments over 90 days and they will happily do it for you. There’s no interest or fees to split the payments since it’s not the loan option. Do you have a guide yet?

Oh, I see. That makes it much more convenient. I don't have a guide yet but should already; I have been reading too much about it lol. I know I should find a referral for additional discount.

If paying cash, definitely ask to do a down payment and then the remaining amount due split into 30/60/90 days. Spreads the payments out, allows you to take advantage of new credit cards (if you are a credit card points person), and you get the points the day you pay the down payment. You don't have to wait 90 days for them to become available to you.

Bonus, if the 90 days falls over a new incentive period, you can typically have them rewrite the contract at the newer incentive price, if they are better.

I had not so great guide that I got when just calling in. I ended up finding my guide based off of members here recommendations. I find Bill very knowledgable and he was great to work with.

I had a similar experience and also switched to Bill who was wonderful to work with.

Looks like I need to do 10 posts first, I cannot PM anyone yet.

Thanks. So I can contact him and then mention a referral?

Possibly the links we provide are generic and no place to request a certain guide but they are tied to us.
If you do call I'm not sure what information you would need to provide such as Full Name or Membership number.

Im not sure how referrals work since Ive never done one. But you can still call and use Bill without doing an official referral. He is a great guide. But if you use a referral you can save I think $500.

To use a referral it is pretty easy - just make sure you mention it at the first conversation/interaction with the guide and that you have clicked on the provided link by the referrer. It is an easy $500 off so a no brainer!

You will need their first and last name to provide to the guide and just mention you were referred by that member, so make sure to PM the person you want to use for that info. They also should provide you a "Dream It Forward" link you should click on as well so it counts. That link will send you to a short form you need to fill in. You will have to provide your email address to the referrer so they can send you the link.

Use the thread @VGCgroupie listed to get your posts up so you can PM.

I picked him too. I’m sure he is sick of me by now as I have been pretty noncommittal about buying direct in the future, but he is very professional and knowledgeable! Definitely better than my first guide.

If anyone is travelling to Aulani and looking for a great guide please let me know. My wife was never happy with our previous guide. They were nice enough but just a bit old school and gruff. Our new guide is great. We will be doing a small add on with her.

The Chase ink preferred you will get 3x points for DVC. Chase ink unlimited 1.5x points. Amex Business platinum 1.5x if the charge is over 5k. Amex Buisness gold 1x.
Do you happen to know if this includes DVC loan payments or just payments initiated as deposit / 30 / 60 / 90? Not sure if they code differently as different department, etc.

Also wanted to update here that we had an offer for no fees on your first Chase Plan / Pay Over Time up to $4K through the end of March, on my spouse’s Disney Visa. Charged exactly $4K and it showed as not eligible for Pay Over Time. Reached out to customer service and they said they have no control to assist, it’s either eligible or it’s not. So it would seem the 6mo 0% on DVC at least, supersedes eligibility for the Pay Over Time option. 🤷‍♀️

That is good to know. I would’ve expected it to be offered the plan.

For the loan payments I think @Lorana might know the answer to this.
