WAY OT!!! My son lost his eye lashes???update child abuse!!!!!

I have a form of trich too. I don't pull out my hair, but I pick my skin when I'm nervous. I don't even realize I'm doing it until it is too late and I have a huge nasty sore on my arm. :headache: When I was in nursing school, it was horrible. One day I was taking a really hard test, and I picked a huge hole in my arm. :guilty:

Hmmmm, I pick at my thumbs and don't even realize I am doing it. My dd5 has started telling me to stop when she sees me doing it. I wonder if this is related to trich. Thank you for bringing this up, I am going to research this.

If you don't notice any infection (and neither did the doctor) of the eyes or eyelashes, I'd really be more leaning towards allergies. I know when my allergies are real bad my eyes itch like crazy and I catch myself constantly rubbing them. When I rub too much eyelashes come out! He could even be doing it in his sleep. Not sure what he might be allergic to, if this was the cause at all, but it could be possible he's rubbing his eyes in his sleep without knowing. Any chance you could watch him sleep for a bit and see if he rubs his eyes?

I nominate this thead for...."Thing I most likely never thought I would see posted on the Budget Board." :)

It does sound strange though, and I'd probably be freaked out to if it happened to my kids.

I took my son to the eye doctor today, he checked our son and told us that he never seen a case like that before then he looked at us funny and took us to a separate room and for an hour question us about "what really happened" he asked us if we had done something to our son , then he told us that it look like child abuse and proceed to ask our son if mommy and daddy have done"something bad to him" my son said no , he told us that this have to be reported , we were stunned and could not believe this, i am still in shock and shaking so bad, how could he conclude something like this is beyond me In the morning we are calling his ped and an attorney and will see what will happen. Please PRAY FOR US....

That's terrible! I'm keeping you in my prayers, I can't imagine how horrible it must feel to be asked if you'd hurt your own son! Just hang in there...:sad1:

I believe in the power of Praying and I have to BELIEVE that the truth will come out ..

I will like to apologize that this is not a Budget topic but i always think of this board as an extended "disney family" and I know we will need prayers to help us with what is to come....
thanks

You and your family will be in my prayers. Hope everything works out soon:grouphug:

I've been quietly following this thread, waiting to find out the cause, suspected child abuse was the last thing I expected to read about. How awful...and how shocking it must have been to you to have your dr suggest it. My thoughts are with you, keep us posted.:grouphug:

My daughter has trichotillomania as one poster described earlier. She pulls eyebrows and eyelashes.

Here is a link to their website.

Pullers are also called trichsters (ch = hark k sound).

They will grow back, my daugher's did. I would talk to your son and see if he is unconsciously pulling at school or when he is watching TV, keep an eye on him when his hands are not busy, give him things to fiddle with when he has downtime.
Good Luck.

I had absolutely no idea that there was a name for this or that others did it too. I had a period in middle school when I was obsessed with this and in my school pic I looked like a freak. I don't know why I finally stopped but thank goodness I did!

I cant' even imagine how you and your family must be feeling. Praying that you will find out SOON what is happening with your son.

Here is a link to the TLC website, it has a list of states (on this page) and you click on NY and look at the Drs. there that are referred by the national organization. Our Dr. gave us a free initial consultation. Perhaps you could see one of these Drs. soon and get a professional opinion for your son. That eye Dr. is nuts.

Call another eye doctor ASAP.
Go in for an exam. DO NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING THAT THE OTHER DOCTOR SAID! That way you have documentation. Then call to find out who owns the clinic and who handles complaints for the eye doctors. He is prob a dumbit and could not give a proper DX so he claims abuse.

If need be...go to 2-3 and get a written DX.

Child abuse! ***? Why would you take him to the dr then?
The women on this board had better answer than that dr did.

I sware some people have their heads so far up their butts their brains are starving for lack of air.

They call it MEDICAL PRACTICE for a reason.
They practice all the time...Just haven't got it right yet!

I have been following this post hoping that everything would be ok. I didnt see this coming at all. :grouphug: to your family and I will keep you in my prayers. Please keep us updated on your situation. Definitely go see another doctor right away.

QFT!
Even if this doctor had never seen anything like it before, new medical conditions pop up all the time! I'd think he'd at least try to accept that, rather than suggest anyone would honestly consider plucking out their own child's eyelashes! Oooh, it's just so infuriating!:furious:

I agree. That's the last thing I would have ever thought of- actually never would have thought of that. That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. Does he really think you hold your child down and pluck his eyelashes out and then take him to the dr?? HOW STUPID!

I agree with the advice given above. I'd take him to another dr ASAP and not wait around for child services to show up. Atleast then you could say you went for a 2nd opinion. Hopefully they will see that this is not something you did and you want to know WHAT is causing it- so much so that you went to yet another dr about it. Maybe even you'll have a diagnosis to be able to show to them. Meanwhile I'd never go back to that first eye dr again and I don't even see how this is something that needs to be reported as child abuse. I've never in my LIFE heard of someone abusing their child by plucking their eyebrows out!
