watch out for snakes!

Yes, Well, the cottonmouth I saw at AK (the park not the lodge) is poisonous so DO be careful.

And all snakes bite if threatened and the bite can get infected easily so even if you know the snake is not poisonous don't get close.

ETA - for anyone who is curious the snake was seen climbing the stairs at the EE viewing area on May 7th about 1:00. It went into the big ornamental rock area just beside the stairs and hid. About 15 other people that day saw the snake.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT:

I'm officially SCARED NOW!!!:scared1:

I have to stay away from these threads. I'm going in 2 months.

Hey Doc. Need another prescription for xanex.

We have seen Deer, raccoons and bunnies but never a snake. I am hoping to see an alligator on our next trip. We will be staying at POR.

Snakes scare me to death!!! :scared1: Luckily I've never seen one at Disney - hope that doesn't change! I'm surprized to hear that the spotted snakes are in such populated areas. I've always been told that snakes stick to roads less traveled.

My DD last year 8, stepped on one at Hollywood Studios. We were leaving from the back of Fantasmic with everyone else. It was so small she thought it was a worm. After she realized she was a little shocked by what she did! It was so small!

We just got back from the Poly & while there saw a very small snake in the 1st Floor lobby of the Tahiti longhouse. We called guest services & they transferred us to Pest Control (who was at Fort Wilderness at the time handling what he called "a squirrel situation" :rotfl:).

Even though he said we didn't have to, we stayed in the lobby watching it, making sure it didn't go anywhere until the guy got there. I was afraid it would disappear before it could be taken out & didn't want anyone to get a nasty surprise in their room!

It took them about 20 minutes to arrive & when he did he just grabbed the snake with a handheld device, stuffed it in a bag, and went outside with it. Took less than 10 seconds in all.

Here's a close-up of the little fella - it was hiding under the table waiting for a chance to make a "run" for it:

Here is what I do when I want to see an alligator:

POTC
Haunted Mansion (Stretching Room)
Small World. Small but cute.
POFQ (Tons of them right outside of the lobby). They are holding umbrellas and entertaining the guests. They must have been trained.

This is as close as I need to get. And believe it or not, they are there everytime I go. I guess I'm just lucky that way.

Even if I didn't run in the opposite direction screaming, I would never be able to get a picture that clear as my hands would be shaking too badly.

It's not that I'm not used to running into snakes. I grew up in North Texas in the country and our property was surrounded by rock crushers. It was not uncommon certain times of the day in the summer to go outside and find a rattlesnake on the walkway. Luckily I knew better than to run from those and would just stand still screaming until my mom had called my grandfather and he showed up with something to chop it's head off.

This didn't happen at WDW, but it's a scary snake story. The house I grew up in was given to my mom and dad by a family member. Like I said the property is surrounded by rock crushers. If they blasted on the side close to our land you could feel the house shake. Well one day they were blasting close to the property and the relative felt the house shake. Then moments later started hearing things fall out of the trees. Well she was washing dishes at the time, and looked out the window to find rattlesnakes falling out of the trees. She called the rock crushing company and the only thing they could figure out is that they must have been blasting too close to a den of rattlesnakes, and the blast caused the snakes to fly through the air into her trees.

That reminds me of a friend of mine that knew how terrified I was of snakes and played a joke on me.

I was taking a trip to the Philippines and I was a little worried about bugs and things. My friend tells me that I should be careful because there are snakes that 'dangle' (his exact word) from the trees. I freaked out, totally, and almost cancelled the trip. I told another friend who is from the Philippines and he nearly wet his pants laughing and said that was not at all true.

I would have moved out of that house and never gone back :scared1:

I've lived in Florida (right behind the MK) for almost five years. The only type of snake I've ever seen is a black racer. There are some dangerous varieties of snakes in this area, but they tend to stay in less populated areas. If you stay out of the brush, you won't have any problems. The black racers are not bad snakes.

Really? I love dogs. Can't live without my little guy.

Yeah, its weird. The older I get the worse I get. When me and DH are out on a walk, if someone comes with a dog I will push him in front of me or make him trade spots and I'll keep on walking fast by while he stops to say hi. I've never been attacked or anything. Just have a fear:confused3

And don't forget our friend, Glen, the alligator, at the Coronado.

we also saw a gator at CSR! kinda cool! (It IS Florida, after all)
We saw a small King Snake at AKL around 10pm near the pool area by the walkway to the door. I am sure big Momma was around. The next was at Pop and this was again near the pool another king snake this was well over 2 feet long. Please be careful and pay attention where you walk as Florida has lots of posionious snakes.
Lexi

King snakes are NOT poisonous! you are confusing them with Coral snakes. also, once "big momma" lays her eggs, she has nothing else to do with her young.
