Was there a "final straw" that made you buy?

The fact that our rep pointed out we could have already payed for it with how many vacations we had already taken. He asked if we were goi to continue to come ack every year. And after we saw the BLT models we were sold.

After 5 trips, 3 offsite and 2 at value we liked being onsite and still do. We have 2 grown up children and 1 still at home so the different options work for us. The other thing was when we converted the cost into £'s at the time of purchase it was over $2 per £, after that it was a done deal.

For us, when DVC announced a resort that was on the monorail, that finally made us take the plunge. :thumbsup2

I think we got spoiled by staying at the yacht Club three consecutive years. Once at a ridiculously low rate($109 per night) and then two years in a row on my rich BIL's dime. When we went the next year we stayed at CSR and made the mistake of visiting our friends staying in a one bedroom at VWL.

We met with DVC on the morning of our departure and explained that we only had 1 hour for her spiel and ask for the readers digest version! We decided to buy at that point. The actual final straw was probably my wife agreeing to buy!

Will we kept it forever? I sure hope so, but if things got bad for us financially it would be one of the first things I'd probably sell. We aren't wealthy and buying DVC was really pretty extravagant for our income. I had my best year ever financially in 2008 followed by a big drop this year. Hoping for a much better 2010!

We were staying at Marriott's Grande Vista in a 2 bedroom with my parents and our 2 kids. The space was unbelievable. We realized that after staying there we would never be able to go back to a regular hotel room again. We got them to take the tour hoping that they would buy. When we realized that they weren't going to we bought 180 at SSR. The next year we bought 120 at AKV. We constantly stay in a 2 bedroom because we love the space. 300 is just enough for us to go 2 years in a row and then take a year off and then take a year off and go to Mexico using one of my parents weeks. Next year is Mexico :cool1:

Other than going to WDW every year for 8 years, we were at PC and a fight, with chairs flying, between about 10-15 kids broke out in food court. i don't think we will have to worry about that at DVC villas.

When we first looked into DVC (2002/03) there were less than 40 years left on all resort contracts. That would have barely taken us to retirement age so the ending date was my being hang-up.

SSR was the first resort to offer a longer contract. When they started pre-selling SSR with 12 additional years and at a price a bit lower than BWV and BCV, we jumped on it.

Birth of our 3rd child and a lot of begging from my DH!

As our DD's got older, the four adults in the values got alot harder. We had a horrible experience at POR so even the moderates werent working for us. While planning our last trip for Dec 08 found out about the Family Suites at ASM and got one for our stay. Could never go back to a reg hotel room so DVC was the best value for our future trips.

It was the hot fudge on the sundae they gave me. Up until that point I was "just looking";)

In early 1999, a member friend asked me on a trip staying in a 2 bedroom at OKW with a couple of other members. I thought she was nuts spending all that money on DVC. Well, after a couple days there, I said I have to have this! At the time, there was only OKW and BWV at WDW. My mom and I had stayed at the Beach Club and I really loved the area, so I bought at BWV, figuring it would be harder to get reservations there and I wanted the 11 months. The rest as they say is history. No regrets over 10 years later (except I would have split my 250 points into 150/100).

With young children I realized trips to WDW were now going to be semi-frequent. While pricing out a trip staying in a moderate, I saw how much of the cost of DVC this one trip would cover. So I started looking more seriously at DVC, but the clincher was that they were offering free passes to WDW, 2 per bedroom per stay, through 1999 (and it turned out later you could borrow all year 2000 points too and receive the passes). These bonus passes quickly paid for a large chunk of the overall initial cost. Boy do I miss those free passes now!

When we took our DD for her first trip and we stay at CSR. We loved the resort as a couple but young child on and off buses didn't feel so relaxing.

We still love CSR but we know DVC will be better long term for us. We can't wait for our first stay at BLT :goodvibes

For us, deciding to buy into DVC was a combination of a lot of things - we have 4 children so the amount of luggage we needed to take for a week was crazy or the alternative was me doing laundry every few days while my family got to play at the pool. Also eating breakfast out every day was a joke, my kids only want a pop tart or a bowl of cereal, we wasted so much money. Space was another issue. The last straw was our second trip when we had 2 rooms at Pop Century, even though both rooms were booked at the same time and were tied together, they weren't even in the same building! That was it for us. DH took the tour, had the contract ready, I showed up in time to sign it.

The space
The Deluxe Level Resorts
Points based system
The years on the contract - meaning we can enjoy WDW or DL up until and after we retire
The possibility of gifting reservations to our kids/family
