Warriors WISHing for Spring!

Kate - You're going to be great! I'm sorry that you're injured but I know you've trained well for your race. Thinking of you!

I took the week off to recover from my very sore legs! Finally feeling good and ready to start back running!

Amanda

I am glad everyone is doing great with their races and training.

We will not have a race until DL and I am greatful for that. My DH was riding his bike last week and had an accident:sad2:. He went flying over the handlebars. A car was passing another and headed right for the riders. He broke his collarbone and fractured his c6 in his neck. He has a sling and a neck brace. I am not sure when he will return to walk. The week was hectic but I will have to get out and going, I could tell after yesterday when I only did 1.76 miles at a 16 - 17 pace and was tired.

Kathy

Oh no Kathy!
Please know that I'm sending prayers for a speedy recovery. How frightening!

Amanda

Kathy, I am so happy DH is ok. So sorry about the accident. Take care of you during this time too. I know you will be stressing during this time. PD that DH heals well.

Kate, thinking of you as your event approaches. Can't wait to hear good things.

Amanda, start back nice and easy. Hope it goes well.

Jeremy, congrats on a good event! Hope that parents will be fine with your next traveling. Will your traveling plans include someone to check in on parents while you are gone. I'm sure you will travel with a better mind if this were the case. Maybe you can get them on Facebook and upload your pics and such so they can enjoy your trip as you go. I did that for my Mom who loves this.

Pam, hope your knee is getting much better.

I've been resting my knee, it is almost 2 weeks since I did something to my knee. I'm going to try to give it a bit of a try tomorrow. It still is bothersome and I figure I should at least walk it out some.

{{{Kathy and DH}}} So sorry to hear about the accident, I hope things heal as quickly as possible and he's back to his old self soon!

I'm calling Dr tomorrow on the knee it doesn't look right and still hurts when it bends or gets bent and when I get up to start walking. Weight bearing isn't the issue as best I can tell at least.

Weather is finally getting nice- have a great week of running/walking all!

Kathy sending you lots of cuddles and wishes for such a scary accident. My word, you take care of yourself as well as DH please.

Lily and Pam we need to get the knees sorted! So sorry the rest hasn't worked for either of you.

I did my '8 mile run' yesterday as 31km bike ride and 2 miles on TM in the gym. I'm hoping if i just keep telling my body it all adds up the same then it'll be fine! It's hot here this weekend- well hot for us- it' 21oC, hoping for a chilly front to come through soon! Take care guys.

CRASH John here with a great big THANK YOU to all you Warriors for your thoughts.

I was 77.25 miles into a 100 mile bicycle ride when things went topsy turvy. The leader of our 3 man pace line stopped and turned just in time to see me do a 1 1/2 flip in the air and land on my right shoulder and head. I don't remember the air flight time but do remember the CRACK when landing. Please, please make sure you all wear A HELMET when biking.

Got to lay back down now so good luck to all and take care of those knees, feet etc.

BTW, I have had and still have knee issues that I am told can be resolved with surgery but I refuse to go that route. Instead I spend enjoyable time bicycling in low gears even when walking would be bothersome. This might not be applicable for some here but I have to admit that because of the biking my walking pace has been effectively brought down to below 11m/m.

Hi Warriors.

What is it with us and our knees. I have been doing well last week. Did 3 miles Wednesday and 4 miles yesterday after my half marathon. Everything was going well. I got up in the middle of the night, and my right knee hurt. It's been tender most of the day but it's doing better now.

John - Glad to hear you weren't hurt any worse after your spill.

Kate - 21C doesn't sound too bad. We're in our normal spring mode a few days hot, then a few days cold. All activty is good. Hope your biking translates well to running. Like you said, the trainings done, the goal now is the get to the start line as healthy as possible.

Amanda - Congratulation again on the Half.
Pam - Hope the Dr. finds out what's wrong with the knee.

Lily - Hope your knee improves too.

Good Monday morning warriors,

It is has finally warmed up here in central Il. Did a nice an easy 5 miler this morning, feels great to be runnning outside and not on my treadmill.

I did get that sub 2 hour 1/2 marathon on April 2nd. Ran it in 1 hour and 56 minutes. Really pleased with that time. Next up the Kentucky derby mini marathon on April 30th. Hoping to go sub 2 again and maybe a little quicker than my April 2nd race.

Hope everyone is staying healthy and injury free.:cool1:

Stan

Stan, great running and good luck with the Derby run. :thumbsup2

John- take care and be careful! I hope you feel better soon!

No Dr appointment but I got to see a PA unfortunately she thinks I may have a meniscus tear but wouldn't do a MRI. She wanted me to take a cortisone shot which I politely declined so I'm on Mobic to see if that helps. I've been on it since Monday and so far I don't see alot of improvement. Anyone have any ideas how long this should take? I jsut feel my fitness slipping away daily- although I have been given the go ahead to elliptical or bike.

Happy Saturday Night Warrioirs!!

Pretty uneventful few days down here. Hot. Humid. Been putting in about 5-6 miles 4-5 days a week.

I started to get some left patella tendon "funkyness" a few days ago. I have been having onset of pain and tightness about 3-4 miles out but have just been running on anyway. Not the smartest strategy, but hey, it's me! It bothered me to the point where I stopped at about 2.5 miles Thursday, which resulted in a 1.7 mile walk home.

Run days have also been evening weight lifting days while my Luscious Bride does her 4-5 miles on the treadmill.

Today I went out and ran using a "run 5/walk 1" strategy & had NO knee issues. Bazinga!! Color me happy. Did about 8 1/4 in just under 9:50 pace.

Not much else today except for me (the Luckiest Man on the Planet) & my Luscious Bride celebrated our 28th Wedding Anniversary! For some reason my DW has decided to keep my sorry a** around for another year.

Run or bike + weights tomorrow. We had some Marine rescue training at work yesterday and I realize I Really Need To Get My Butt Back In The Water. My shoulders are very tender today. Gonna' try and start some plyometrics 1-2 times /week. I need to get some more intensity in my workouts. To date I have too freakin' lazy to do so. Hopefully this will change.

Ya'll are rockin' the house!! Keep up the work!!

I'll second what John says about helmets & bikes. Unfortunately, we had a local cyclist killed by some cowardly cracker bubba idiot in a hit & run 3 days ago. Dirtbag did not even have the moral or ethical courage to stop & try to help the poor guy he creamed. Hopefully he will get caught & brought to justice. There is a special place in Hell for people like this. Helmet did not help here, but still arm yourself with all the tools. This was a stretch of road I have bike many times and there was no reason for this to happen. A nice deserted country road. Bleh.

Good Morning Warriors,

John and I went out for a morning walk.:cool1: Ended up doing a 5k but at a slow pace. The first time John has been out in 2 weeks and he did very well. Still in a sling and the neck brace but he really wanted to get out and doctors approved that he could walk.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

Kathy

Just popping in to say :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cool1: :yay: to Warrior Kate for finishing the London Marathon this morning. Woohoo!!!!

I'm still plugging on... 7 miles yesterday - 1/3 outside and 2/3 on the treadmill. I ran from Epcot to MK using iFit live on my treadmill... you map out the route and transfer it to the treadmill, and it changes the elevation based on the actual terrain (or lack of terrain in the case of central FL) and you can watch your progress on an iPhone using Google Streetview. All very techy, but it makes treadmill runs a bit easier to stomach.

Thanks Sarah! How did your friend do? That workout sounds brilliant.

I'll do a full rundown at some point, but yes I started and finished the London marathon. Unfortunately my leg gave me trouble from about mile 10 and i had to walk large sections. Had physio on the course towards the end which helped but I have to say I was so upset- v tearful at the end. Finishing time 4:53- not even close to what id hoped for. never again! oh well- after rehab I'll focus on shorter distances I think!

Jim- so sorry to read about the cyclist- think it's scarier when it happens on a route that you use.

 I'm sorry that you didn't have the race you wanted. You know what, Kate, I felt the same way after the WDW half this year. I was fighting back pain from mile 7 on and I had to walk the last 4 miles. I was so annoyed with myself... I even still have the medal packed away - I never took it out after we got home. :headache: But I'm realizing that it's really just such a great feat to finish a race when things are not going well... so many people just stop when the going gets tough during a race, and it really means something that you have the courage and stubbornness (or stupidity in some cases :rotfl2:) to keep going. I have a friend who had her hip lock at mile 21 of a marathon last year... her half marathon split time was 1:30 and she finished the marathon at 6:30. :scared: She hobbled with one leg locked for 5 miles, and it took her HOURS to do those 5 miles. I think that says a lot more about a runner than being able to run a 3 hour marathon.

My friend (an old coworker from when I lived in London) finished in 4:33... which was 30 minutes slower than he had hoped for. It sounds like you guys had a lot to contend with out there with the heat!

Edited to add: This is my 1000th post, and it's a Warrior post! YAY!!!

Sarah, congrats on your 1,000th post. The iFit program sounds interesting for sure.

Kate, sorry about your event, but what Sarah said. You did it and I think that is fantastic.

Jim, congrats on your anniversary. Good for you getting out there.

John, very scary thing the bike mishap you had. Glad you are ok and hope you aren't feeling too badly.

Kathy, any time out there is good. Glad you both could get out in it.

Stan, have fun doing the Derby event. Say hi to the other WISH Team members there.

Jeremy, sorry about your knee. Hope it is feeling better. Be careful of over use.

Pam, sorry about knee tear. Hope the meds help.

I am going to doc with DH tomorrow. I think I am feeling better though. DH still thinks doc should check and comment though.

I managed a nice 5 miles today. Today was a bit slower than last time, but it is still a better overall improvement. This with the knee issue and all. Go figure.

Hi all

Lily - Hope everything goes OK at the Dr.

Kate - Sorry to hear London didn't go as planned. Sometimes even the best of plans can go wrong on race day.

Sarah - I've seen some of the tradmills with that feature but i've never tried it out.

Kathy - Good to hear you and John are back on the road again.

Jim - Glad to hear thing are working out for you.

Stan - great job on the Half marathon.

AFM - I've taken it fairly easy last week. I did 3 miles Wednesday and Friday. My knee is feeling better. Friday I tried a :30/:30 walk run again. Felt better than it did the last time I tried it but I'm still not sure I want to "race" it. Today I went out and did a little bit of speed work. I did 2x400m repeats, and a "magic mile" 1 mile time trail. I still need to work on my pacing for that short of a distance. My lap splits were all over the place. I did finish in 10:25. 5 seconds than the last time. My next race is probably going to be the RadioU 5K, It's 10th. So i'm trying to work on optimizing for a shorter distance. Based on my recent times a 36:00 - 37:00 is possible. A year ago I did a 43 minute in the event and I've done 38min. 5K splits in recent training.

Also on Friday, I did my first stint as a race volunteer. The local half marathon and marathon was Sunday. Being on Palm Sunday, I had church commitments that kept me from entering. So, I worked packet pickup on Friday. It's a small race of 450 total marathoner and half marathoners. I spent a couple of hours on Friday and handed out about 25 packets. It didn't seem like much, but having me there freed other people from packet pickup to do more important jobs. I did meet some interesting people. One mature couple in their 50's-60's in particular had met 2 years ago at the flying pig. They were both walkers. The lady was near (or at) the finish when the gentlemen came up and asked if she was OK. She said "yes" he said "I don't believe you, why don't we stick together until you meet up with your family". They've been going to races together ever since. They traveled from Louisville, KY to Gambier, OH for the race.

Then on Sunday after church, I decided to go to the Earth Day expo/Finish line party to watch a few of the later finishers come across the finish. Being a small race there weren't too many finisher that crossed in the hour I was there.

Jeremy, congrats on volunteering!

Doc said it is scope the knee time. Plica syndrome is what he is guessing. How's that for a diagnosis. I have never heard of it before. Scheduling for first available so I can heal and move forward.

Wow! I've been a bit MIA for a while!!

My life has been BUSY since last October, when I ran the W&DHM - my last big race. I moved to Tampa and started a new job, which I dislike greatly.

But, I've been running more, which is a good thing. Of course, I kind-of have to thanks to PT. :) I signed up for the 2011 W&DHM and I'm thinking about signing up for the 2012 Tinkerbell DL HM to start my coast-to-coast medal. Not sure about that one yet.

Hope everyone else is doing well!
