Warriors WISHing for Spring!

Sarah well if nothing else I hope you have got your medal from the half out after that lovely encouragement! I'm starting to come around to that way of thinking- apparently my expectations are too high :rotfl: Oh well. That's shocking for your friend who's hip locked- poor thing. Walking on that must have been agony! Your asthma UK friend did very well- he must have passed me at some point :D  for you 1000th post too

Lily I have no idea what that condition is, but you have a cracking attitude towards the problem- get it fixed then we can get you out of the pain! Sorry it's been so rubbish, you did well to get 5 miles in.

Jeremy whhhoooo for being a volunteer- they really are the most wonderful group of people (especially first aid ones :rotfl:). No seriously, it's fantastic to be able to give something back isn't it so well done for making the time to do that.

Amy oh my word, so sorry you hate your job! What is it you're doing? How was the move to Tampa!?!?! Great to hear it's going well and PT helped. Whether your regularly here or not, you're still a mighty warrior and it's so lovely to hear how you're getting on!

me I've been laughing at the race photos as they're being identified this week- i look grouchy in all of them so far as they're all towards the end  Had a lot of pain underneathe my foot on the outside that is actually getting worse, but my muscles are loosening now. Hoping to go for a swim tomorrow and see if that helps. Getting tired of limping! Much happier now and starting to look forward. In my sulk I almost cancelled Runners World last week.... tantrum over!

Thanks for your endless support :grouphug:

Kate - The first aid people were on bicycles with backpacks full of supplies. With the high winds on Sunday, some of them looked more tired than the marathoners.

I've let myself get way behind here.
I'm sorry to hear about the injuries and accident! Also sorry that the London marathon didn't go as well as you had hoped Kate. Your finish still sounds amazing to me!!!
I took a week off after my 1/2 marathon. The following week started well but quickly fell apart as my work week was super busy. This week we're on vacation in Baltimore. I'm hoping to get a quick run but the kids are being a bit of a handful so we'll see!
I hope to get back on track next week. Next event isn't until October.

Amanda

Becky, so nice to have you back here again. Sorry about that job. Glad though that you are putting in the steps so you can at least de-stress over the not-so-happy job.

Kate, so glad that you've found you are surviving and coming up for air. LOL on not canceling your RW subscription.

Amanda, hope you can get some you time in the vaca mix. I'm sure it will help with the busy times.

I've got my knee procedure scheduled for Tuesday. Plica syndrome, as I understand, is a tissue that is usually absorbed as the knee develops in infancy. Some folks aren't so lucky and the tissue does not absorb. In my case, the doc thinks tissue has slipped out and is being compressed causing my pain/swelling. It will not repair on its own. Hopefully that is all that I've got going on. Sometimes it is accompanied with a meniscus issue or some other thing. Doc says no way of knowing for certain until arthroscopy. Glad to move on afterward and hope it will be quick and easy healing. I've got events scheduled to do.
:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Lily, hope the Dr. is correct and by Wed. you will be faster than ever. :goodvibes Best of luck.:thumbsup2

Happy Easter Warriors

Lily- Good luck on the surgery

We walked today for 4.57 miles and our average pace was 16.33. We did have a short distance that he was in a 15 pace so that was good. John now has a figure 8 splint for his collarbone which is helping him. We also change to the rubber neck brace so that he can shower right after the walk.

Hope everyone is doing well

Kathy

Happy Easter Warriors

Kathy - Good to hear Johns on the mend.

Lily - Good luck with surgery

Amanda - Hope you can get started back into some sort of a routine.

AFM - This is the first "normal" week of running since my half marathon April 3rd.

Monday - Speedwork/ Galloway Magic Mile. Completed the 1 mile time trial in 10:27. Just slightly faster than my last one.

Wednesday. 4 miles 1/2 mile warmup, 1 mile all running, 2.5 miles run/walk.

Saturday - 5 miles walk/run

The next race on the calendar is a 5K on June 10th. So, right now, I'm focusing on maximizing my potential for it. I don't race often, so I deciding how much faster I can go for 3.1 instead of 13.1 is a bit of trial and error. McMillan suggests a 36-37 is possible, Galloway says about a 34. My current 5K Race PR from a year ago is 43:39 but I've done 38:27 in training. I'm thinking a 36:00 might be possible.

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone!! :goodvibes

My disdain for my job comes from being out of my comfort zone. I am in charge of a workcenter that I have no experience in, so it's just been a big challenge for me. But I do have retirement within the next 12 months to look forward to, so I can put up with anything. :)

I ended up registering for the Tinkerbell Half at Disneyland for 2012, hoping to get the Coast-to-Coast medal in 2012 with my 3rd run of the W&DHM. For someone that claims to dislike running, I sure do sign up for a lot of races.

We ran a 4-miler today. I'm sure summer in the Tampa area is going to be a beast, but at least our PT sessions are in the morning. :D

Kate - Congrats on your London finish!! I always look awful in the race phots I find of myself. :) Glad you're getting back to 'normal'. A swim will probably feel great!!
Amanda - Enjoy your vacation. The run will be there when you get back home. :)
Lily - Good luck with the surgery!!
Kathy - Sounds like good progress!!
bhode - Good luck with your 5K. I'm sure you'll set a new PR.

Have a great week everyone!! :)

Happy Day After Easter Warriors!!

I had to work yesterday, so no Sunday Funday for me! :(

First off - Lily -> Best Wishes for a stress free & rapid recovery from your upcoming surgery!! :)

Our day yesterday was pretty busy. Lots of injuries & accidents with an occasional sick person. 1 bad motorcycle accident with 2 people, one of whom had a good chance of not survivng. Ride a motorcycle --> Wear a helmet!!

It's been a weird few days here. I have had (what I hope) is a weird inner ear thing going on where I have had double vision for about 10 days, A bit of vertigo mixed with some other weird stuff. As a precaution, I had a brain MRI today and a neurologist follow-up tomorrow. Hopefully I can at least prove to my DW that yes, I really DO have a brain up there. I think she doubts that sometimes.

Done some cross training lately. 13-15 mile bicycle trail rides in the local forests. Just been pumping away & slogging through the nice Florida sand. That white stuff on the beach? It's EVERYWHERE down here! And I have discovered that when you hit a really soft patch and your wheels are not perfectly aligned, your bike stops! Instantly!! And you do NOT!!! Needless to say I have come home a very dirty boy lately!!! :D

Lily if my math is correct (always in question) yesterday was your surgery- I hope it went well

Lily, hope the surgery went well. We knee-d to know when you get the time.

Lily - I was thinking about you yesterday and I hope everything went well!!!

Amanda

Hey- I've been watching the news and seen how bad the storms have been over there. I hope you all live far far away from the affected areas.

Went to physio this morning- he thinks I have a stress fracture in my cuboid bone. When he used ultrasound it was really uncomfortable for the first time ever, which he took as a strong indicator. I'm allowed to swim and cycle but the running shoes will have to stay in the cupboard! Follow up in 2 weeks and we'll see then. I guess that explains the pain, but it seems weird to diagnose without an xray! Anyone know why the underneath of my foot creaks when I flex it? It feels a bit like squashing a bean bag under my foot.

Big cuddle to Lily and Jim, I have wonderful images of you as a sand castle :rotfl: Stay safe!

It would appear we could be called Warriors with Plica knees! According to the Dr my problem is also with Plica but he suggested a brace, and PT to see if we can correct the problem. I think part of the PT will be working on my hips as well, to get me all aligned again.

I will try to run with the new brace on this weekend but don't want to today because I have to time an all day track meet tomorrow and that would be alot of time standing with a really sore knee.

Hi Warriors

Amy- good luck on the work front. Try to make the best of the time until retirement.

Jim - Sounds like an "interesting" time biking. Hope the final results of the MRI were positive.

Kate - Sorry to hear about the stress fracture. Take the time and let it heal right.

Pam - Hope the knee brace helps.

AFM - Knee pain is still mostly gone. Just occational discomfort. 5K training has been different. On Monday I did 2 1,600m repeats repeats at goal 5K pace. According to Galloway at a 12:00 mile goal pace I should be doing run 2/walk 1. I don't normally run that much but I did the first 1,600 at that ratio and the second one run 1:20/walk :45. Both were right about a 12:00 mile. Wednesday did a mile without walk breaks and then an easy run/walk. Yesterday did a 7 mile long run.

Feel better Pam!!!
Great job Jeremy!
My Thursday run got a bit derailed. I had an unusual day of things to do so I was going to be able to run outside in the morning (a rarity for me!). My 7 year old woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was being a beast. So I took him with me. Needless to say it slowed me down A LOT! :lmao: But it cheered him up so it was totally worth it.
I really re-started my training this week. I did all 3 runs (including the mostly walking run with Nathaniel). Today I did 3 miles. I'm amazed by how much fitness I lost in 3 weeks!
Monday is an exciting day for me. I joined a free Women's Running Clinic at my local running store. Our first run in Monday evening. I'm a little nervous and a lot excited. :thumbsup2

Amanda

Amanda - I've been Jeff Galloway on the extra mile pod cast. He he keeps saying you can't do you long runs too slow. So, we'll just call the run with Nathaniel your long run. Good job on getting back into the swing of things.

Hi Warriors

Lily - Hope everything went well
Pam - Has is the knee brace working
Jeremy - Take it easy with the knee. Want to meet you at DL

John and I walked this morning. We did a 5K and stayed in the 16 range. Our training has not ben regular with us but John is doing good walking with the neck brace and the strap for his collarbone.

Kathy
