Want to do Add-On with March UY......going to be difficult?

We just decided this week that we really need to do a 100pt add on. We bought 160 thru DVC 3 years ago, and it's just not enough. We have AKV with a march UY. I thought I'd check out the resales and holy cow, I can't believe how cheap AK is! It's really a no brainer to do resale over disney, right? But I'm finding that March UYs are hard to come by. Out of the 3 seller only 1 has AK with March for 100points....december is by far the most available.

So my question is, should I be jumping on this one and only listing that I see? We really dont NEED the points till next year, are we going to be having an impossible time finding 100pts for March?

Thanks!

It will not be impossible but since you have time, I would really try to wait a little bit before deciding on a different UY.

We are looking to add on as well, right around that 100 point mark too. We will be considering another UY but only because I have sat down and ran the different situations in which we want the other resort.

We also own 210 already so that helps. When you have a different UY, it is a different membership (like two different owners) so combining points is not as easy as if they are the same UY, titled the same way, and under the same membership.

If you can avoid it, I would try. Of course, if you get to the point where you are in need of the points, then start thinking about whether it will work.

We just bought a 100 point AKV contract resale and am waiting to pass ROFR.. :cool1: The add on availability was one of the reasons why we decided on a December use year... the main reason is we usually travel in April but the contract availability definitely helped!

We did talk to a broker for the 100point AKV with March use year during our search.. it was a great deal and the sellers seemed to be willing to negotiate as well.. it just didn't fit what we needed.. I would be happy to pass on the information.. :goodvibes

I say just wait a litte longer and you might find what you want. You can tell the resale brokers what you are looking for and they can contact you faster with what you need. They don't charge you for this, and it helps them to know what you really are looking for.

OP, I feel your pain. We have an April UY (and there are very few) and I don't want to add on with a different UY because of the transfer issues. I would like to just combine my points with my existing contracts. I say keep looking. When the right one comes up you'll be ready. Sign up for advance notices at the resale companies as some of the better contracts are gone before ever getting posted. Good luck.

As long as DVC does not use the ROFR, the prices will likely drop as the year wears on, especially as seelers see the 2012 dues on the horizon. With that said, the March contract you are looking at is priced reasonably well, and on a 100 point contract, a $5 per point difference either direction is only a $500 difference in cost, so if the contract is just what you are looking for, throw out a bid you are comfortable with and see what happens! Someone recently posted a 100 point contract that they bought at $67/pt for AKL. There are also 108 and 115 point March contracts out there that you may be able to snag for just a little more $$ and have EVEN MORE POINTS!!!

I would not count on this. someone at the Timeshare store told me expressly(because I was upset that they didn't) that they will not keep a list of what you're looking for and call you if something comes up. First come, first served, so if you're not watching the computer frequently, you could miss the perfect contract. Another broker (Fidelity) told me they would do this but we bought a contract through them before the need came up. I even asked the Timeshare guy why they wouldn't start a list requiring a small deposit to show you're serious about buying. Nope.

I would just check the top 3 brokers list frequently. If you still can't find a March use yr after awhile you could try an April and just use your one transfer a year to put them into the one membership. That would be easy enough. I have Dec use yr and was considering an oct add on but luckily one came along that worked out for me. Good luck

Yesterday I received Timeshare Store's email update and nearly freaked out when I saw a small BCV contract with a Sept. UY - exactly what I've been looking for and what seems nearly impossible to find. I called right away without even realizing I had mentioned none of my search or intention to buy to DH. I think if it had been real I would have laid my money down in a heartbeat and figured out a way to explain to DH later! However, upon checking, it was an error and was actually Aug UY. Made me realize just how crazy DVC can make a person! Thanks for the heart palpitations TSS!

Thank you so much everyone for your replies! Gosh DVC really does make you crazy doesn't it! I know people think we're nuts because we plan our vacation 11months out. I guess not too many people think and act like DVC people!

Realisticly we NEED to add on by April sometime. We will definately need them by June of 2012, we'll need them for our May 2013 trip. My husband is all for it....(never thought that would happen, but he drank the koolaid too!) but we are cashing in stock to buy it and all of the sudden it droped $7 from last week to this week, so it's killing him to cash out now.....so if we can wait, he would be happier.

SOOOO, if we end up having to get a Feb or April UY it won't be that horrible? We travel in May or Aug.

scubakat I would love to take a look if you want to share the info, thanks!

I guess I would just feel better if we had a more popular month, knowing that there will be plenty to pick from when we finally do it!

Like someone else said, having a different UY is like being two different people. If you need 26 points for a night, you can't take 20 points from one account and 6 from the other. That can make it tricky both to use up your points and to do a trip that requires more points than you have in one account. I think you probably end up doing more borrowing and banking to get enough points to meet your needs.

We just bought a 60 pt BWV with a different UY than our 150 pt BWV and our 100 pt BLT contract. Now we have to try and keep all THREE straight, which is going to be more complicated than I originally thought, but doable. It just takes a lot of paperwork to figure out!

We have 4 contracts with a March use year. There were always less contracts to choose from when we were in the market with a March use year. Just let the brokers know what you need - we used the same broker all 4 times, and they were able to get us great contracts with our March use year. We always bought more points though - our contracts are between 150 and 200 points each. You might have a tougher time if you aren't flexible with the amount of points in the contract - if it can only be 100.
