Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

They are lattice type wooden structures that cover the entire window--at least it did on our floor--this was also on the lobby floor -- 3rd. You can see through the Os and between the lattice slats, but the view is definitely meh. As I said, it really didn't both us since we were only in the room to sleep and change for the pool.

Here's a photograph:

Yep, that would be annoying!

We have been "fortunate" enough to have had both the Xs and Os view (no king bed) AND the service area view (king bed).

We weren't as bothered by the Xs and Os, but the service view we declined. It was located on the lobby floor (3) and at the very end of the building--West Tower (YC end). Seriously, we had a view of the service entrance, employee smoking area AND to top it off, the ceiling was so low we could touch it. For perspective on that one, my husband and I are only 5'4" tall and while I have long arms, that ceiling was claustrophobic. The only plus was the king bed. :headache:
Was it you, Tess, who had the infamous 'dumpster view'?

Have you tried booking the Swan through Disney? The website was showing sold out for me in late May but I was able to book through Disney. Costco also had availability at the Swan.
The date (1 day) I want is also sold out on the Swan and Dolphin website. I have asked before at the front desk and they say when that happens all the rooms are usually committed to a conference and not released.

I have been in the dreaded x and o rooms with my ds at the Dolphin. Do they have these rooms at the Swan too? I did ask to be closer to the elevator due to my mobility issues.

This was a quick mother son trip and he is a nurse and had the nurses discount. We spent so little time in the room it really didnt matter, but if we were staying longer I would not want that view.

We did look out the window to try and see the weather etc. and it was really obstructed.

Thank you all for the details on the room views. Sounds like we'll forgo the king bed in hope of a better view.

No Dan, I remember a poster talking about it on this thread before, but it wasn't me. I think this is the first time I mentioned it and since we declined the room--I didn't review it until now. :)

Okay, Tess.

Whomever it was, had pictures of the view, and it was pretty incredible.

Yes, I remember. At least the view from that room had more than the dumpters--picnic tables, pine trees, a service bay and lots of backing up beepers from the delivery trucks. :(

Well I am in the midst of trying to book a May trip and of course the dates I want are sold out again, hmm, remember my December postings, this seems to be our luck and dh work schedule unfortunately.

With the above comments about the gartner conference I think we will book asap. I have learned my lessons for December too...
but now back to May.

I keep getting a pop up on the computer screen that says buy 1 night and get the 2nd night 40% off. Just wondering if anyone has booked this and did you have to call the reservations number.

I dont know if that is available to be booked on line etc.

I have had to get creative with my dates and am booking 2 nights at the Swan (that is why I want to find out about the discount) and then the 3rd night at the Swan which is sold out I am going to book with my dh ff miles. Thank God they hold rooms for that. Then I am jumping ship and probably going to the yacht Club for 3 days.

So if anyone has any info about the 40% off promotion, TIA.

I have had no luck getting that 40% off offer. Pretty much every offer Starwood has usually does not apply to Swan and if it does the dates are very limited.Am kicking myself because there was a Starwood members offer that ended April 10 that was 25% off and it fit our dates, April 22-25. Shoulda grabbed that. Right now I see nothing that works.

Is there a good place to view the SW fireworks at the resort? Looking at Google maps, it seems like you could get a nice view from the beach area near the pool, or are the trees in the way?

In March we were at the lap pool sitting on the beach bar side. The fireworks went off and you could definitely see them, especially the biggest ones. Now, I would not call it a full view, and there was certainly no sound. But, it was a lot of fireworks. I would imagine there might be a sweet spot further back toward Epcot along the Dolphin building where you don't have the Swan close enough to obstruct. But moving along the beach and grotto pool toward the Swan will make those trees limit your view.

Thanks! That's great info. :)

Just returned from a stay at the Swan. A couple of Picabu updates that I hadn't seen mentioned here yet (if they were, I missed them):
1) They replaced the brewed iced tea dispenser with a Gold Peak machine (the same type seen around Disney parks and resorts).
2) The soft drink dispenser with multiple nozzles has been replaced with a single Coca Cola Freestyle machine.

I hadn't stayed at the property for nearly a year so I don't know when those changes took place.

Booking success. I made dh call last night since he is the starwoods member and all his info is tied to his work e mail I think.

Asked reservations about the discount off the room for starwoods members. She knew nothing about this. Dh said well its on your website right now. So that is a non refundable room rate, paid in full and the discount was about $11 more off the room per night.

Then I had him ask about the 40% off room rate. Yes, I think I drive dh crazy with my obsessive research. Reservations say they knew nothing about this and where did I read it etc. I said its in a pop up add right now etc. She has to go and ask a supervisor. She said if you pay some standard rate the first night you get the 40% the next night. She did the math with dh over the phone and by booking that rate instead we saved another $19. Yes, that will probably get us 2 Mickey bars by the time we get there with Disney prices these days, lol.

So we are happy and will be at the Swan May 17-18.

Then today I get an e mail that if you use code AIRPRO and use a certain phone number which I havent investigated yet and are a starwoods and american airlines member you can get 1,000 miles. Its good till Dec. 31st, so I might keep that in mind for food and wine for a December trip.

Then for the rest of the trip we are jumping ship and heading over to the Yacht Club. But we love the Swan too. Just I missed swimming at Storm Along Bay last May when we had to cancel our trip due to the blood clot in my leg, so I need to make up for that!
