Walkway from MGM to Swan/Dolphin?

How long does it take to walk from MGM along the walkway to the Swan/Dolphin? (about 10 minutes or so?)

I want to go to Downtown Disney from MGM, and it seems it would be faster to just walk to the closest resort bus stop (Swan/Dolphin) & wait there for the bus

It is a 10 to 15 minute walk, but doesn't MGM have busses directly to DTD? We stayed at the Swan, and they had great bus service to MK--every 5-10 minutes or so, but I'm not sure how often the DTD bus came. You could probably check on the transportation board. I'd at least check at MGM to see if a DTD bus was there before hiking over to the Swan. The Swan, by the way, will be slightly closer than the Dolphin though the Dolphin's lobby might be worth seeing if you're into that sort of thing.

No you cannot catch a bus straight from any of the theme parks to Downtown Disney. You must either go to a resort or to transportation center.

What we do like in your case. Is catch the first but we see going towards a resort closer to DD. Then catch a bus from there to DD.

Example at MGM you might want to catch one to PO, Keywest, Saratoga, CBR or take a boat to Swan or Dolphin and catch one there.

I'd just take the boat over to the Swan or Dolphin. It's not that long a walk but after all that walking I do at the parks, I like to relax on the boat. And Swan/Dolphin is the first stop from MGM.

...if there's a boat boarding at MGM, I'd take it. But if not the case, and no in-bound boats are in sight, I'd walk. It's a short walk and I prefer walking over standing and it'll get you back to the hotel sooner. One other thing to note, the walk-way is not shaded, if it's hot out you will work up a pretty good sweat!

Another option for walking would be to go to the Boardwalk bus stop. The walkway from MGM to Swan/Dolphin goes right along side of the Boardwalk Resort. Someone who stayed there should be able to say for sure, but I would think you could somehow cut thru from the walkway to the bus stop area by going past the swimming pool area. (If that makes any sense. )
We only walked TO MGM one morning, and it seemed like tsome of the Boardwalk rooms/villas were really close to MGM.
