Waking Tinkerbell getting out of hand?

We just returned from our trip and had a wonderful time - though I did see something that was a bit disappointing. A teen girl getting upset and arguing about who got to Wake up Tinkerbell.

I think that the internet is great for advice and tips for trips to WDW however some people just take it too far - I think the Waking Tinkberbell is really cool and my DD was lucky enough to get to do it last year - Thank god is wasn't well known yet - This trip we had an early CRT PS and DD asked if she could try to Wake Tink again - I warned her that it is more popular and she may not get to but we would go check after Breakfast - she said that she would like to but if another child was there that hadn't done it she would let them do it since she did it last year and she would just watch - Any way we are waiting for the rope drop and after it drops we start to walk to Tinkerbell's Treasure - there are about 3 or 4 families running to the shop so I know that word is out - so we know we won't do it but we decide to stop and watch. I guess 2 of the familes got there at the same time , one family with 2 young girls the other was a teenager - The CM wanted to know who got there first and the Teen started arguing and throwing a fit that she was there first - the young girls got to Wake up Tink as the teenager pouted and complained that she was there first - The Cm said that everyone there could get their pics by the box and hold the wand - We declined as DD just wanted to watch. I know it is really cool to do something that not everyone knows about but I think that adults and teens should refrain from trying to do this and leave it for the children. There are so many Magical Moments at WDW - in my opinion the Waking Tink is for the children not the teens and adults that just want to do it to say that they did it. Sorry but I just had to vent about this one.

I agree. My kids were lucky enough to be able to do this last year and we would like to try again this year but if we can't oh well. However, I do think adults and teens should leave it for the little ones.

unless she is 18 a teenager *is* still a child (as evidenced by her pouting LOL) and if she was there first she shoul get a chance. I didn't see it so I don't know what her behavior was like but like I said she's a child too....

Why o you think it's a ba thing that more people know about something and more people get to experience the same magic you did (last year)?

I must agree with flminivanmama, unless she is over 18, she is still a child. If she was there first, she should have been allowed to wake up Tinkerbell!

I think whoever gets there first - child, teen, adult - should get to wake Tink and experience a little pixie dust on their vacation. What I don't like is the arguing/bickering/bad feelings that waking Tink is starting to provoke in people. We saw this last year on our vacation and I imagine it's only going to get worse.

They should do some kind of ticket at City Hall or something. Having families running through the park to get there first doesn't sound like a good idea.

I do not think it is a bad thing that more people know because of the internet but people start to feel entitled to things that they read about and they get really upset if they do not get to do it , I think it gets their expectations up and they get really dissappointed if they do not get to do it. As far as the Teenager throwing the fit was completely uncalled for - if they got the info from a board they knew that it was getting popular and there was a chance that they wouldn't get to do it - I didn;t see who got to the counter first as the family with the 2 young girls was the first ones getting to the door when the teen ran and tried to get there past them - I have no idea which one was at the counter first but it was obvious that the family with the 2 young girls got to the store first.

I don't think it should matter how old the person is. The first there should get to wake Tink.

I guess it was the pouting and arguing that really put me off - I think this was probably alot more magical when a CM actually went up to a child and asked them if they would like to "wake up tink" instead of familes racing to get there now. I bet it will only get worse.

If there are certain "special" things to do at the parks that only one child can do a day, it's probably a good idea not to get your kids hopes up about it. If it happens, it happens, if not, hey, we're at WDW, right? I read so many times on these boards that some peoples entire days get ruined by seeing something that they don't like, or having a bad ride experience, a la Stitch's Great Escape. If your hopes are that they are going to become happy, health adults, kids have to learn to roll with the punches and not be taught that entire trips hinge on one problem or experience. Let the others be miserable or fight over the small stuff, it's just not that important.

Seems to me that it is everyone's responsibility to help make the magic, not just take it. Too many "entitled" people = no more magic for anyone. Maybe that's one of the "secrets" that need to be passed around on the Disney forums. ::MinnieMo

Thank you Laugh O Grams - that is what I was trying to get across but you said it much better than me :flower: It was really disappointing to see people getting upset and arguing over things they read about and EXPECT to do because they know about it. I didn't even tell DD about it last year until we were at the shop and asked - Tink is her favorite and I didn't want her to be disappointed if she didn't get to do it. I hope that others keep that in mind when they go - to try but not get dissappointed if it doesn't happen.

If enough people pout/complain/throw fits because they are not able to do a special WDW activity, then the "something special' will probably go away. Permanently.

And that would be a shame, that because of the misbehavior of some, many would lose.

agnes!

My kids never got to wake Tinkerbell, but that's OK with us. What I'd to see is for CM's to select an unsuspecting family - like the way they open the Studios. That's truly *Disney Magic* :goodvibes

It is ashame that this event has become so popular that things like this happen. It has to be akward for the CM's as well. I have read post of people being pushed and shoved out of the way to get there first, and only to find out she has already been awakened!!

Maybe the CM's should pick a child from the crowd waiting for rope drop, making it a "magical moment" just like any other at WDW. A totally random invitation to participate in an event that you can remember forever. I know they do this at MGM to pick the Grand Marshall for that day's parade, as well as other things. So why not apply the same method to something like this.

We are hoping to witness the waking of Tink while we are there on our honeymoon. My DW2B is a huge Tink fan, but we feel that a child should wake her. So we are planning to get there just to watch some child's face gleam with joy as they participate in this wonderful event. We believe in the MAGIC of Disney and what it does to everyone, just witnessing the Magic creates a wonderful memory for us and if that Magic finds a way to include us, then the memory is cherished even more.

Here is to hoping all your pixie dust dreams come true :wizard:

I bet that with all the racing for this that the CM's will start to go pick someone at the rope drop to Fantasyland. That would make it really magical for the special person picked and no more hard feelings and racing if more than one family is there first.

It is really sweet to watch! Your DW will enjoy it! Also make sure you ask a CM there about the special drawer to see Tink in - After she is awake you can catch a glimpse of Tink through a Key hole on a chest of drawers in the store - Dh was able to get a really good pic of Tink in the drawer!

I dunno...to me it just seems like all that pushing, running, shoving, complaining, etc makes it seem as though people are trying too hard to "make" that Disney magic happen. Pixie dust isn't something you can force. It's just something to be enjoyed and cherished when it does happen all on it's own. :)
