Waitlist question about HH

I requested a 1 BR for March 4-9 at HH and was told that there was nothing but 2 bedrooms avail for that time. They asked if I wanted to waitlist a one bedroom. I have never done something like this before so I am pretty green. Is it possible to waitlst the one bedroom, book the two bedroom, and if the WL comes through for the one bedroom, cancel the one for the 2 bedroom and take the one bedroom? Are there any penalties for this?

Thanks!

Kristine

Yes, you can do that without any penalty.

I would suggest taking the 2BR while it is available and then try the waitlist - it may still come thru , but since there are only 21 1BR villas there is certainly a limited opportunity this close to your arrival date.

Good luck! (Grab the 2BR and just enjoy the extra space! ;) )

But, if you borrow points from next year to make the 2 bedroom reservation, you won't need the same number of points for a one bedroom. So you'll need to make sure they use the borrowed points first and then either use or bank the the current year points.

Great! That is what I needed to know. I intend on doing this because I am going to HH no matter what kind of room I have to stay in.

I just wanted to chime in and let you know that every time we have waitlisted, it has come through, and it has always been Hilton Head! Sometimes for a 1 Br, and sometimes a 2, but we have always been lucky!

Good luck!

That is great news!

I did just get an e-mail from MS saying that I could put the 1 bdrm on a waitlist but if it comes through 30 days or less of our arrival date, then the point difference between the one and two bedroom will go into holding. I will have to use those points in the same use year. My use year is Sepember and we will not be going on another trip until December 2007. I will lose those points then right? Can I cancel the WL at 31 days out?

That's correct, the difference in points will go into holding if the waitlist comes through 30 days or less. Holding points can only be reserved 60 days or less prior to arrival and expire at the end of your use year (8/30/07). If you want to keep the 2 bedroom and not have the holding points, cancel the waitlist before 30 days.

If you know anyone that's an II member you can likely get one of the top Marriott's on the beach for much less. Otherwise taking the 2 BR and wait listing the one BR day be day is the best option. Simply an II rental at one of the top Marriott's would run you less than a $1000 for a week in a 2 BR on the beach.
