I don't remember if I have mentioned this before, so forgive me if this is repeat information. I am simply documenting all this business of getting ready for WDW!!!:cool1:

I bought a used PDA for our first trip to WDW. I found one that had been used at trade shows. It's a Palm Z22, which is an entry level PDA device. It's inexpensive and gets the job done. I love it especially for WDW because I can use the guides that are found here:

http://eguidestogo.com/index.html

You pay this guy $8 and he makes these different files that show all the park hours, the schedule for live entertainment, the menus, where restrooms are, all kinds of crazy information that may or may not be useful to you on your WDW trip. $8 if like for life. You can always go back and get the updated files. It's totally worth it. If you have something that supports iNotes, I think, he makes those files too.

On the day that we watched the Pirate Tutorial on our Spring Break trip, we were headed on our way out of the park. We had just ridden Splash Mtn. I decided to take a look at the schedule to see if there was any live acts that would be interesting to catch on our way out. Why yes, the Pirate Tutorial was scheduled to start. Let's head THAT way. For looking things up like that, I found it to be invaluable. Check it out in the morning. Look at it at lunch, etc etc. Then you can catch the various different things all around. Love it.

I just updated.

The updates come out on Sunday. That's something of a bummer if you arrive on Saturday. I need to work on making sure that my laptop and my Palm are compatable. And see how that all will work once we are there. I'll need to find some free wifi for sure. Anyone know where that would be?

You realize that you could practically write a travel guide, right? This is what drew me to your PTR in the first place!!! I love how you write all this knowledgeable stuff for us who are, well, less knowledgeable!

Ironically I have a blackberry, but I never use it for a PDA or Email... I have been toying with an iphone or an upgraded BBerry, with upgrades. I like the customized aspect of what you described... :thumbsup2

Re the planning fiscal and otherwise, everything sounds manageable and ready to roll! And you will be, rolling along to Disney in just a few short days!!! :yay::yay:

Oh, and I forgot to mention I am curious about the online check-in -- seems all who have tried it have found it helpful!!!

You are so funny! I appreciate the feedback. It really does take a bit to gather ALL the different info that's out there. I'm doing my best to put it all in one place! :rotfl2: At least what I find.

Sometimes it's rather dry reading for those that aren't interested. Once upon a time ago, I was employed as a technical writer. Sometimes I think I still write in a more technical and less entertaining way. Ah well.

There is an application called iSilo, I think. I think there is a free version of it. Check it out. The site says iSilo should work on a Blackberry!:thumbsup2

I was toying with the idea of gathering autographs like this thread did...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2050828

which is basically using a mat board that is designed for an 8x10 frame with a 5x7 picture. They had the characters sign the mat board. I thought it was totally cute. I thought we could have one for each character meal. But I don't take a big enough bag into the parks to make this work on this trip.

We used the Disney autograph book on our last two trips. I wanted a new one. A smaller one.

I found something similar to this at my Hobby Lobby
716_p.jpg

That one is from JoAnn's. It's 4x5. It has 18 pages. I bought a red one and a purple one. We found some really appropriate Disney stickers to decorate the outside cover, and also to decorate some inside pages for some characters that we KNOW we will see. I thought I would make the red one for the classic character meals, and the purple one for the princesses and the Supercalafragilistic breakfast.

I just got this today. The decorating will totally be my project. Bolt said that he didn't really care.:confused3 I may just take it all on the road with me and play with it in the hotel/resort, decorating the pages as we go, or whatever. I doubt that I will get to doing too much before we go. Time is getting short after all. But I bought the raw materials, and that's what really matters.

I'm kind of hoping to be able to add a mini picture of Bolt with each character to put on the page opposite the autograph. We'll see if that'll work out.

Pictures of the project may not be forthcoming until after our trip, but I will definitely post about it.

Just sharing the idea...

I don't really care about getting emails or any other such stuff.

However, I DO want to be able to update my PDA on Sunday with the latest in park hours and entertainment from the aforementioned site. But I DON'T want to pay any money for the privelege.

Here's where I have found some free wifi access:

FREE Wi-Fi Locations:

Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex offers FREE Wi-Fi. You usually have to pay admission to get into the complex, but the Official All-Star Cafe and some other areas near the main entrance (such as the gift shops) do have coverage and can be accessed without buying admission. Click here for more info.

All of the Osceola County Public Library branches have FREE Wi-Fi access. The West Osceola Branch Library at Water Tower Place #21, 6070 W. Irlo Bronson Highway (Hwy 192) in Celebration is the closest to Walt Disney World and some of the other branches are within easy driving distance. No printing is possible through the wireless connection.

Panera Bread offers free Wi-Fi (and yummy sandwiches). The closest Panera to Disney property is at 8600 Vineland Avenue (near Marriott Village). Call (407) 842-1300 for hours.

MouseSavers.com reader Scott C shared these two other FREE Wi-Fi locations in the general area of Walt Disney World:

PJ's Coffee and Wine Bar, 54 Riley Road (in Water Tower Place at the entrance to Celebration). Scott notes they have "good chocolate chip cookies too." PJ's is now offering a FREE 16 oz iced or hot coffee for MouseSavers.com readers! Click here to download the printable coupon (in PDF format).

Downtown Kissimmee is a Wi-Fi hotzone - click here for a coverage map.
Orlando International Airport (MCO) has FREE Wi-Fi throughout the terminal, and at the Cell Phone Parking Lot (10536 S. Access Rd.) Thanks to Seth N for info.

We used to be members of Lifetime Fitness, an absolutely INCREDIBLE health club (Courtney knows;)). When we were traveling once, Peter and I drove into the parking lot of a local Lifetime Fitness to access the internet because they offer free wifi in the cafe there. So likely, if the signal is strong enough, you don't even have to leave your car to do a quick download to many of the aforementioned places.

Hopefully, one of them will work.:)

Hey, nice idea! (the autograph books) and something fun to do, too! Sure wait till you are at the resort. At the WL, there are nice common areas to sit, on each floor, so you could totally hang out there and do this !! :thumbsup2

Ok everyone, just one quick goodbye.

It's 8:45 pm. I still have to deal with packing food items/dealing with the fridge and electronics (charging cords, cameras, etc etc). Otherwise, we are PACKED.:woohoo:

Really hoping to get a decent night's sleep tonight.

Just as an FYI, I DID get the cake ordered. We're partying at WCC on Saturday night!! I have secreted a Father's Day gift in the car for our Boma breakfast. I still have to deal with some surprises for Bolt for during the car ride.

And so, I bid you all farewell until we return!!:flower3:

BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I so hope you have a great time! I can't believe you are leaving so soon -- but I remember that you are driving and taking your time, so that makes sense! I look forward to "chatting" when you return. Have a great time!!!! :yay::yay:
