I know that transportaion from VWL to WDW is by boat. What if you are handicap? What are the provissions for an emergency evacuation on the boat? Disney tells me they never have had a problem! Anyone have any ideas?

You can also take a bus to Magic Kingdom if you are worried about the boats. We've taken the launch many times and always felt safe but we didn't have any added worry about not being able to get off the boat or swim.

Transportation to the Magic Kingdom is via boat or by bus. If you do not feel comfortable on the boat, then the bus might be the better choice.

The boats are wheelchair accessible, however during droughts, the water levels may be too low, thus causing too steep of a ramp for the boats.

Not sure about an emergency on the boats, but there are life preservers on board as they would have with any boat. The green and blue boats are the two that run to MK and they are very large and very stable. People in wheelchairs and scooters simply wheeled right on the boat with no ramps or any restraints at all. It seemed very normal.
The miniboats that run around the lake to FW and CR are far smaller and loading a wheelchair or scooter would be more problematic on those boats. They are also far less stable and while I don't think they have ever tipped over, it could be an issue on a choppy and windy day.
The busses on the other hand were another story. On three occasions we had wheelchaired people boarding the busses and the I think Disney could do a far better job handling wheelchairs on the busses. The process was extremely long and drawn out and I really did not care since we had no kids with us and were not in a hurry. I felt that the people were embarrassed and annoyed with the drawnout process.

Thanks for all your thoughts. My issue is actually not a wheel chair, but rather I am traveling with my son who has cold induced Urticaria. Anyone out there with a child with this situation? Thanks. julie

I'm not sure what you are concerned about exactly - that your child may have a problem and need to get off the boat before it reaches its destination??

I know the buses have 2 way radios (or some similar communication provision). I think the boats would have the same, but if your child has a problem, probably the quickest way to deal with it would be for the boat to continue on its route to the next stop.
