We are considering a vacation at Vistana Resort or Vistana Villages. Does anyone know if a high pressure sales pitch is a requirement once you arrive?

Hi -

I can only answer about the Vistana Villages. The timeshare presentation with a $100. cash bonus is voluntary, no obligation at all. You can schedule it or turn it down - no pressure. I'll be there April 19-28th and asked the same thing because I do not want to be bothered with it.

We stayed at SVR last spring. They tried to walk me to the end of the counter (after check in) to give me my "freebies". I said I was in a hurry and would get it later. They called everyday to try and get a hold of us, but we were rarely there and just didn't answer the phone if we were. It was really no big deal. SVR ia a very nice resort, recently refurbished. We would stay again.

same here (i stayed in may 2012).

just don't go after any proffered "free gifts" and delete the sales phone calls (they just left messages while i was there and rarely, if ever, called directly to bother you). i was pleasantly surprised by the lack of hassle from the sales side.

SVR is a beautiful resort - very impressed by the villa and amenities (like the pool). only 2 miles or so from the wdw sign...super easy access...one afternoon, i left the epcot parking lot and was parked back at the resort 8 minutes later. (learning the route back from other areas of wdw can be a challenge, though... )

To be certain, one might be required under certain circumstances. If you are renting your unit from a standard source or a Vistana owner, then no, there is no presentation required. Sheraton Vistana (both of them), like most timeshare developments, does occasionally offer heavily discounted packages either directly or through third party marketing groups that DO require you to attend the presentation.

Generally if you are looking at a really fantastic deal on ANY timeshare property you should read the fineprint carefully to see if a presentation is attached as a condition of the room rate.

Note that the presentations at Vistana aren't particularly high-pressure compared to many others (especially those in Mexico!) I would more characterize the Sheraton sales people as highly persuasive - they have very good well-rehearsed arguments for any objections you may have.

If you do the presentation, you will give up 2-3 hours of precious vacation time (basically killing a half-day) for that great rate or whatever other discount is offered. Do some serious math to determine if it is really worth the discount offered (i.e. 1/14th of your airfare, car rental, etc if staying a week).
