Is anyone else as disappointed as I am about the Virgin Megastore closing in Downtown Disney? Grumpy and I have spent virtually every evening during our Disneyworld trips from the past 9 years in the store, it's such a relaxing way to end the excitement of the day-plus it was fun to see all the stuff which isn't imported to the UK. I got every season of the Golden Girls without spending a fortune in shipping costs during our trips!

I will really miss going into the store,as it was a big part of our trip. Just hope another record store will take it over by the time we visit in September!

I doubt another record store will take over. In today's day and age, not much need for actual "hard discs" anymore....everyone is going digital. I wish there was a way the two could co-exist!!!

when is the closing date?? always had some hard to find items in this store

I think I remember someone saying on another thread that is closing at the end of May, but I am not positive.

Although I rarely buy anything there, I'm a bit disappointed as it's always fun to browse.

Unfortunately stores can't exist when people are only browsing. I'm sure this store has a huge overhead cost and has to have very high sales in order to survive. Between the conversion to digital media and today's economic climate that's just not happening nor ever will again.

The DTD Virgin will be closing May 31, according to the Orlando Sentential. All of the stores are closing, and the one in NYC is becoming a Forever 21 clothing store.

I doubt that will be the case in Orlando....but that is a huge space, I wonder what will take it's place.

I still buy hard media, but rip the media to digital form as soon as I get home. It is unfortunate that hard media is going away, but I also understand the reason (granted I don't think soft-copy is always a cheaper alternative due to storage, archival, etc).

Oh what is that I see...is that an Apple on the horizon??? :rotfl:

What a HUGE opp for that company to take over that space!! It would be along the size of their store's in Boston and London! Only time will tell!:thumbsup2:

Maybe BN or Borders could take over the space. We always went there for the books, anyway.

Virgin store is currently 30% off entire store, according to the posted signs.

BobK/Orlando

Beware...they are reportedly following the typical liquidation tactics of most stores in the past few years - jack up the prices then offer "big discounts", trying to sucker people in to thinking they are getting a good deal, but the initial prices are often higher than they were before the liquidation.

I was just at Virgin Tuesday (4/14) and all the $10 movies they used to have are now $15. They are all marked with signs 20% off but if you do the math you pay more now. The poor people that had to peal all those $10 stickers off the movies!!!:rotfl:

I was there last week and talked to one of the employees. She said the liquidators were not coming in until May and that the sales related to that would start then.

I would predict that the real bargains won't begin until it gets close to the closing date.

ESPN Club????
When the original rumor about closing DQ first started it was said to be replaced with an ESPN Club. The ESPN Zone does well but is deep "in property" it would be plausible to suspect that another ESPN would draw enough outsiders and other guests from POL and SS resort as well as the hotels on the boulevard and not cannibalize the Zone.
ESPN is also part of Disneyland's Downtown so it would not be a stretch to suspect one would be placed at WDW.

I think you have the names backwards...

ESPN Club is what is on the Boardwalk. It is basically a sports bar/restaurant. It is not part of the ESPN Zone chain.

ESPN Zone, which was the original rumor for the DQ location, is a much larger venue, with more games, etc. There are several locations around the country, including DTD Disneyland.

I don't know how likely the rumor about the ESPN Zone at the Virgin location is - I think at some level it is a hopeful wish on some that want ESPN Zone AND DQ to both co-exist.
