Gail and others are correct. There is an official annoucement about the next DVC. I've copied this from another site but will try to find a link to the actual release. However, it does look official. I like the idea of having the Inn option like at Vero

"Disney Vacation Club Development, Inc. operators of Disney Vacation Club announced today that, subject to approvals, it intends to open a 600-unit Disney Vacation Club Resort along Disney's Eagle Pines Course at Disney's Bonnet Creek Golf Club.
The yet to be named resort, which Walk Disney Imagineering will create, is scheduled to open spring/summer 2004 and will feature an inn building with a check in area, a restaurant/lounge, a themed pool with a slide, retail space, a health club and villa buildings containing vacation home accommodations."
* 61 acres
* the 7th DVC
* opening in phases
* Spanish revival architecture of Addison Mizner,
a 20th century architect

A foot note says the Beach Club DVC is "now scheduled to open in September 2002"

Sounds like Coronado. Mizner's influence is there too.

>>* opening in phases<<

Opening in phases? That is very interesting. That could possibly mean that they could only build one-fifth of the resort and start selling that while construction goes on for the second one-fifth, etc. They would only have to complete a 125 unit building, start selling that, than start construction of the next phase.

Candace, Bonnet Creek is the golf club near Ft. Wilderness. You use the same road to get to both. I am anxious to hear more!

OKW was built in phases. They don't have to have the entire 600 villas complete to begin sales, but can construct the common components (pool, tennis courts, store, restaurant, etc.) and then a portion of the residential area. As sales progress, more villas may be added for sale.

This area has been consistantly mentioned as the next DVC for well over a year. It will be interesting to watch for design plans and see how the membership component will be structured.

That news oughta make Beach Club Villas sell out even quicker !! Hi Doc ! ;)

Doc,

I'm a little curious about something. From early reports this new resort may seem to some like an OKW clone. Sure, it may be cosmetically differant from OKW, but the peaceful, serene location is similar to OKW. I get the impression that the same type of people who are attracted to Old Key West would also be attracted to this new resort.

I'm curious to see if the OKW resales skyrocket after this resort opens. Seem to me some present OKW owners may opt to sell their OKW interest in favor of this new resort.

Your thoughts?

Good question, Dumbo. Since there are so many unanswered questions at this point, it is tough to predict what may occur.

If the point structure is similar to that of OKW, I suppose there could be some who would choose to sell OKW, but I'll assume that purchase costs and point costs will be higher. Unless there is some feature at the new resort (VEP ?) besides a slide in the pool ;), I can't see too many people rushing to unload OKW.

If there is indeed a restructuring of the end date of the new resort, I could see current members adding on- just to get the extension of the membership, but I can't really imagine a mass exodus. If anything, it could create a higher demand for OKW resales.

Stay Tuned!!

Well, I haven't found a copy of the official press release yet. I did stumble on this newsletter that includes an interview with Pressler where he says,

In addition, we will be looking for growth from newer businesses such as the Disney Cruise Line and Disney Vacation Club. Continued cost efficiencies should also contribute to our profitability.

The whole article is in the link above.

It will be interesting to see what is actually planned and where in relation to the Eagle Pines course it is going. For example, it could be possible to link it to a boat dock at the lake (not far from FW) and thus have boat transportation to MK and it could have an internal bus or trolley that stops at the clubhouse for the courses, neither of which OKW has. The site will likely have significant appeal to many golfers if DVD plays that angle as a huge number of golfers believe Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines are the two best courses on site. The time is ripe for grand speculation.

It will be interesting to see if the rooms are OKW size or BWV/WLV/BCV size. I assume it will be free standing buildings like OKW.

A little "mouse" answers alot of my questions... Hmmm... it will be alot like Old Key West, there will be no boat, it will have a few bus stops like OKW. It will be similar in style to OKW and built in the fashion of a Boca Raton/Palm Beach style- sort of like the Breakers...

The press release will probably be out soon... it will be secluded and more hidden the OKW. I sort of want to laugh at the people that called OKW outdated or moderate now...

BRAVO DVC its about time- I want to add on... guess I will wait for sales to begin in the Spring of 2004

This now brings us to the next question. If it's built in phases, first opening in 2004, then one might expect the last phase not to be completed for 5 years or so, which is 2009, and the last units to sell out within a year, 2010. That would only leave 32 years left until 2042 for those people that would be buying those units. Not very long for the cost of the investment (imagine what point costs will be then)

We'll have to wait a little longer to see if there's any chance it'll really be a DVC II.

One question is answered though. Bonnet Creek was always the rumor, looks like everyone was right on this one.

On a side note, this past May while at the OKW owners meeting, the CM (sales) asked where the next DVC resort was going to be. I answered that rumors were it was going to be Bonnet Creek. He of course was looking for an answer of Beach Club, but that to me and everyone else in the room was OLD news. Anyway, he made a snide remark concerning my answer, commenting about all the MISinformation out there on the web.

Anyway, he who laughs last,...........

My WDW years tend to blur together so maybe someone else can help me here....OKW opened in October 1991 and by at least Sept. 1993 the Miller's Road, Peninsular and Old Turtle Pond sections were complete. I think the South Point area was completed by 1995 but I could be wrong on that one. However, I have no idea when they actually began construction on the resort....heck I didn't know where it was until 1993! ;)

In addition to Pam's chronology, the latest buildings (62,63,64) were in the original plans as the final phase of the resort. The Commodore House was always planned as a "temporary" structure- to be replaced by villas.

Commodore House was demolished in '97 and the "new" buildings opened in Nov, 1999.

WOW, what a great idea ! or did Disney just figure out a way for DVC to help pay for the upkeep of their golf course through DVC Dues levys.

I am skeptical of this resort plan.

OKW doesn't pay for the upkeep of LBV. If anything, the potential for guests not following the "stay off the course and carth path" rule harms the course.
