Video of the Magic Kingdom Utilidors (Tunnels)

First time I have seen what they look like - do they actually show any of the "rooms"/areas down there when one is on the tour? We almost took the tour a few years ago but I could not get my "older" sons up. Some day.

Barbara did you move to Orlando?
Yep, we live in Celebration now (although I am in Chicago at the moment on a brief visit to family). We took the tour a few years back, and we didn't get to see too much more than you see on the video. We did go in and out two different stairway entrances on the tour tho'.

I just did the Backstage Magic tour a few days ago and we went down and walked around in the utilidors. We didn't go into any of the rooms, but the doors were open to some and we saw a CM training room with people taking "classes" on computers and an employee breakroom. I thought it was pretty interesting, I also enjoyed seeing the cast building at DHS. That whole tour is great actually. Being down in the utilidors didn't kill the magic for me at all, they defintely weren't glamous or anything, but for a Disney geek like me they were fun to see since you hear so much about them all the time. I highly recommend the Backstage Magic tour to all Disney geeks. ;)

We did the KTTK tour on our honeymoon and are taking my mom and sister on it this summer, so I've seen the utilidoors before, but I thought the huge map of everything that's down there was so interesting. When you go on the tour, they show you different areas, but it's hard to orient where you are in relation to things above.

One question: On the big map (I'm assuming it was pretty old) it had a green room for the Lion King and a stairway leading to the Legend of the Lion King. I've been to WDW multiple times, but my first trip wasn't until 1994. Was there (at one point in the past) a Lion King show in the MK???? Is there a more recent version of this map?

Legend of the Lion King was where Philharmagic is now. It's been gone for a few years now (sadly...it was a really good show...sort of like the Little Mermaid show at DHS).

Hmm.....:confused3 I totally don't remember that. So sad, especially because I'm not much of a fan of Philharmagic. Thanks for the answer!

Due to the magic of video and the internet, you an find it here on YouTube:

DH nearly went into mourning when they took it away. I miss it too...it was a really cute show, but I'm sure it cost a ton more to put on than Philharmagic because of all the actors and puppeteers (Rafiki even introed it in person in the pre-show room).

Thanks :thumbsup2 It looks slightly familiar, maybe? :confused3 Any idea what year it went away?

I think PhilharMagic opened in late 2003, so I'm guessing Lion King probably closed sometime in 2002? I'm pretty sure we saw it in 9/01, don't remember if we saw it next trip 11/02 or not.

Heh, you got that right! After working at Disney for over 4 years now, the utilidor has become ho-hum to me (it's a good workout though, getting around down there).

It's funny, it's been nearly 7 years since I was in the utilidor. While I was there I didn't think anything of it, but now that I'm not I actually miss it! I miss going to the Mouseketeria for breakfast! LOL!

Wow, that long? I didn't know that.

I usually hit up the Mouseketeria for lunch/dinner. I loved getting the chicken and fries.
