Video of Renovated Old Key West Studio

Well, looks like the Old Key West charm is diminished somewhat, though I love dark wood but not in this setting. In all fairness I'll reserve final judgement till Nov, we'll have a 2 br in bldg 62-64, when I can see the full refurbishment. Blue isn't my personal favorite color but I'll keep an open mind.

It certainly doesn't say "1900 Key West" to me, and that's supposed to be the theme here!:confused3

I agree. It reminds me of my mom's house circa 1958 - 60 Midwest. Definitely not a tropical atmosphere. I prefer the warm colors and the soft/light woodwork and headboards.

As for the bug issue, perhaps it did not translate well onto the video but it seemed to me that the towels, which appeared to be pool towels, were the source of the bugs. Pardon my cynical nature but there is something about leaving wet towels on furniture/floors that pushes my buttons. And if the towels were brought in from outside . . . :confused3

Love the new rooms. Pink and green is old ladyish to me. Video is cute. The bugs though - :scared1: - gross. I can't believe Disney didn't notice that when they were cleaning.

I think I'll reserve judgment until I see it in person. I liked the original decor, but I'm hoping the new blind style will provide a little more insulation quality over the wooden shutters. The living rooms of the larger units could get very cold in the wintertime because of all the windows.

I think the new bedspreads are OK, I would have liked a lighter color paint on the headboard, but sometimes colors in photos don't really look the same as they do in person. I wonder what the carpet looks like? I wonder if we'll get a renovated studio next week? If so, I'll take more photos.

As Diane stated, there goes the early 1900's Key West appeal. I will hold total judgement until I see the larger villas in late November. I sure hope the dark funiture is not in the 1 and 2 br villas and I mostly hope the TV is not just sitting on a dresser the armoires that were there were perfect.

With the changes maybe the "Old" needs to be replaced with "New". Oh well at least my recently redecorated home office looks like "Old Key West" i can always retreat in there for the feel.

I don't like these changes either. If pink and green is "old ladyish", guess I'm an old lady cuz I liked it. I'm trying to sort out how much of it is that I really dislike the change, and how much of it is just that it's change-I mean, "don't mess with my OKW!" So maybe after a while, I'll learn to like it. But I still miss the light, bright colors. I must admit, I'm kind of glad we didn't get a refurbished villa when we were there in late APril, and I appreciate the warning. Otherwise, my first reaction when we opened the door on our next trip would be "Hey! What did they do here?" Gives me time to get used to it a little.

I doubt they were there when housekeeping cleaned. I suspect as a previous poster did, that they came from pool towels left on the floor. They look to be ants, and since they seem to be contained to the bathroom and there were plenty of towels on the floor (Yuck, hate that), I can understand where they came from. If they did the same thing in the new room, they probably had them there too.

I like the new decor. But then again I was not a fan of the peachy /pink color.

Liking it and having it adhere to the theme are two diffent things. I don't dislike the new decor we saw on the video, I just don't think it goes with the 1900 Old Key West theme of the resort. If you read the resort "story" (yes, all Disney resorts have a "story" to them), you will see that those modern colors aren't much a part of it. Beachy and light and mismatched furniture is what makes the theme.

The tone of the furniture reminds me of the Hemingway collection from Ethan Allen. From looking through design books, I recall a lot of the Caribbean feel designs had darker woods.

I like the blue. I wasn't a fan of the peach color at all.
Curious to see what the bathrooms look like and if they updated the countertop for the kitchenette.

Also think the shade on the door is cute. Not too fond of the bedspread.

Yes, I liked the roman shade on the door too! I think the bedspreads look like SSR though. I agree that dark wood is in the Hemingway collection at Ethan Allen, but Hemingway was wealthy, and most of turn of the last century Key West was little put together cottages where people vacationed with their "left over" furniture.

I've never stayed so I can't really comment on much but I like the new colors compared to the pink I've seen in video/pictures and i do agree that the dark wood headboards do not go with the theme...at least they kept the original art work.

i do however agree that the couple could of done a better job with the camera, can anyone say, motion sickness..lol

Nightstand and table & chairs are original light finish, wonder if these will remain as they are? Although I do prefer light finish on furniture at OKW I find these pieces now look glaringly out of place alongside dark wood beds & dresser/tv stand :scared1: it looks like a bad mix & match as it is now. I took a closer look at bedspreads and its hard to be 100% certain but it seems the pattern is a sea theme ( swear I could see coral / sea fan / shell-like things ).

Maybe video doesn't do it justice, hope when we next visit our OKW home that we find what's new comes across looking better :)

Hmmm, looked floral to me. I guess I'll have to endure that video again. The camera work made me dizzy!

Okay, just rechecked, and it DOES look like sea weed etc on the spread. I wonder if the colors are maybe looking dark because of the bad camera? I guess we'll have to reserve judgment until we see it for real. Hopefully a DIS/DVC member will get to stay in one of these rooms soon and will post some REAL pictures for us.

I'm not a fan of the renovated rooms either....but I'm with Diane. It's not because they're not nice....just not in keeping with the OKW theme. The bedspreads are VERY similar in theme to the new VB ones. Not sure if you can see the detail on these VB comforters, but they have seaweed, sea horses and sea shells on them........here's a pic I took :

This. Also if anyone has stayed in Key West, FL recently, they will see that most of the upscale resorts have gone to the darker woods with simple bedding (some plain white). Sorry, but I think pink, green, peach and mauve is a flashback to the 1980's. The 80's was great, but I'd like to leave those colors behind.

I love that Disney is changing their look and modernizing the bedding and color schemes. The themed comforters they use in general are icky. imho. BLT is the nicest DVC yet. :thumbsup2

I agree. on our Dec trip to OKW I thought it was so dated. And I love theming. I think the blue is very tropical and it desperately needed an update.

I immediately thought of an old Ethan Allen commercial about the "Tropics" here is an example
