Video of Renovated Old Key West Studio

From what I could see, I love the new look. Count me in the camp that was never a fan of the peach and green.

I wonder what software they used to make this video. I thought the way they created this family video was great and very well done....smjj

Agreed. Loved the transitions & wonder how they got audio without the usual background noise.

Video 101: Don't move the camera around too much as it will induce vertigo. Focus on one thing at a time, focus being the key word here. . .;)

Also Agreed. I made the mistake of attempting to watch part 1.

I am a fan of the original colors - peach and green. We're in a one bedroom villa in Bldg 55 right now and I love the color scheme as it is. I did notice a studio on the end, first floor in Bldg 56 that had the roman shades on the patio door and curtains in the window. The studio above and the attached one bedroom were not renovated.

We met a family the other night who were in Bldg 51 and had the same problem as the people on the video. Lots of little gnats/bugs in their bathroom. The resort was 100% occupied on Sunday, so they were going to move on Monday morning.

I wonder how they're getting in?

I am in a renovated studio right now. It isn't awful. Most of the walls are pastel blue, the wall behind the headboards is slightly darker blue. The headboards and TV cabinet are dark brown, not blue. The carpet is medium beige with a lighter beige square plaid pattern. Bathroom is unchanged, except there is a nice white fabric shower curtain with a plastic liner. While they are the same headboards, repainted, the foot boards are gone, they are a standard hotel type bed frame, so no more stubbed toes. (yay!) That is why they added the bed skirt.

I think the theme is more Seaside Resort than "Old Tyme Key West," but it is pretty.

Major change to internet connection---be sure to bring your wireless router!! The in-wall connections are plugged off. I had to hunt behind the nightstand for an ethernet cable that is attached to the modem (after I called engineering), and plug my router in there, or else I could only use the laptop on the bed. No active HSIA near the table any more. :( I wonder what they did with the connection in the one bedrooms?!

IMO, kind of a dumb internet way to change the internet connection.

I'll post pictures after I return home, as my good camera does not connect to this laptop, anything I would post now would be poor webcam quality.

The tables and chairs are repainted to almost the same original beige, without the distressed look. Chair have newly upholstered beige and blue plaid.

Seem to notice the noise made by the neighbors a little more, since there is less carpet to absorb sound in the connecting one bedroom unit. :(

Chuck, not a real strong vote of confidence! Seems like an awful lot of blue? So they changed the carpeting in the studio, it appeared the same as the old in that 1 br video we saw. Can't wait for your pictures, what bldng are you in Chuck?

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

I think the carpet will show the dirt badly. It is a heavy carpet, so the threads should wear well, but I think it will get dingy looking quickly.

Thanks so much for the first hand report! That internet change stinks! I used to set up my lap top on the dining table on the first day and just leave it there all week (I know, probably not safe, but I did). I'm curious as to which building you're in. I'm wondering if it's in the Turtle Pond area by the Penninsula Road end or are other areas refurbished?

Oops! Looks like we posted around the same time. That's interesting-we were in that same building the end of April. At that time it wasn't rehabbed, but the walls did look freshly painted. As far as view, though, I was very disappointed. Whenever we sat on the balcony, I could hear noise from the main road through the trees. And more importantly, I didn't see any bunnies all week, and only two ducks. I think it was #4021.

Like I said, the room is nice, and fresh, but just isn't as well themed for "Conch Flats/Old Key West"

Here is the best photo I could take of the carpet with the camera that works with the laptop. The color is better than this photo shows, but you get an idea of the pattern

Mom probably explained it best. It just doesn't feel as comfortable and "home-y." More generic like a hotel room.

But it is nice. And OKW was in need of refurbishment...I just wish they had preserved the "Old Key West" theme a little better.

You know, now that I think of it, it makes sense that's one reason why some of us don't like this new renovated style; one big reason we like OKW is that it's so laid-back, not stuffy at all. A really casual place to be. This furniture seems a little more formal and DH I are definitely not formal on vacation

Agreed!

Given the less the stellar job housekeeping does at real cleaning, that probably means it will look worse than the old stuff in no time at all. :worried:

I'm not surprised there seemed to be more noise. It would be a given without something else "soft" in there to absorb it. An area rug under the coffee table would help or even fabric curtains would help, but just the hard floors will make the sound bounce around a lot.

Can't wait to see your pictures, Chuck.

Yes, that was my fear that it would not fit the theme too well. The video looks pretty generic too. SO what does orthoganal carpet in a neutral color have to do with the OKW theme? Nothing as far as I can tell. Maybe it's supposed to look like sand, but who draws orthoganal lines in the sand?
