Via Napoli Questions

We have a reservation for a party of five adults at Via Napoli. I have noticed that they seem to be the most popular for their pizza. We have the dining plan, so my question is, how does the pizza work on the dining plan? It does not seem like much bang for the buck. Also, if we don't want pizza, what is the consensus on the other dishes? I was not really planning to eat pizza.

Well, it's not a huge bang for your buck. You can either choose the make your own (but you will pay oop for additional toppings) or one of the specialty pizzas (which would be covered with the DDP). Everyone at the table must use a credit and you can only order the individual size if you are ordering pizza. Supposedly they are very strict about this. You are free to order a different entree but no sharing is what I've heard.

I've had the arrancini (fried risotto balls) as an appetizer and they're delicious. We also shared the house salad with pizza - $7 a person and not worth it in my opinion. Their pizza is fantastic. I think, from what I remember, their individual sized pizzas are like $21 ish each and their large (not the mezzo metro, but the one with 8 slices) is about $32. So you get a lot for the $32 if you're splitting it. We did a large pizza, salad, and arrancini for 4 people and split it. It was plenty of food. Also the Zeppoli for dessert are so good!

I think unless I had a lot of extra credits, Via Napoli is a place I would most likely pay oop just because we would share. However for the dining plan, the pp is right. There is no sharing and you either have to order a cheese pizza, one of their signatures, or have to pay oop for extra toppings if you create your own. Of course there are other dishes at Via Napoli you can get other than pizza though.

My son got the spaghetti and meatballs and I didn't eat it, but it looked good! The dessert I had was so delicious. It was the little fried cream cheese puffs with the chocolate and whipped cream toppings - delicious.

DH and I had lunch here on our last visit, and while we LOVED it, it was the first meal that made it glaringly obvious to us both that maybe the dining plan was not for us. After each getting an app, and each getting a pizza, and each getting a dessert, we wasted so much food that we actually felt guilty. I would say probably three-quarters of each pizza was just trashed, which was a shame because it was SO delicious, but I wasn't about to carry it around the park all day long. (Besides, we had so many other ADRs that I doubt it would have ever been eaten even if we had taken it back to the room.) In theory, we could have each used a credit and shared a pizza, but our tastes are so different that one of us would have been pretty disappointed if we had compromised. We are going back this year, without the dining plan, and plan on sharing (or skipping!) an app/dessert so that we don't end up being so wasteful. If you're already planning on the dining plan, maybe you could consider paying OOP to just get the amount of food that you think your group will eat (bound to be less than what you get for a TS credit) and using that extra credit in addition to one of your others for a signature meal?

There is no sharing on the DDP. :( Each person must use an individual credit. It does seem like a lot of food would be wasted. I'm pretty good about stretching DDP credits but this is a place that won't let you.

The way I understood the "rules" last year was that you could get one larger pizza and split it if you'd like, but you would still each use a credit? I may have misunderstood/stopped listening, since that was obviously not the route that we were planning to go.

Via Napoli was my birthday dinner on my last trip. I had the chicken parmesan with the roasted potatoes and the Zeppoli for dessert since we did DDP on that trip. Neither of my parents had pizza but I couldn't tell you what they had. Either way we all agreed it was probably the best meal of the trip.
