We have a Cat 4 booked, and I have visions of getting up early and having coffee on the verandah while the kids are fast asleep. I know I can order coffee early in the am. but has anyone every brought one of those mini-coffee makers on the ship with them. I am pretty sure we have a fridge, so the 1/2 will be fine. But I thought how cool to have our morning coffee at our pace!

Why deal with the "fuss & muss" yourself? They provide continental breakfast order forms in the dresser drawer, just fill one out before going to bed, put it outside on your stateroom door handle by 3:00 a.m. and your coffee (and whatever else you order: juice, muffins, croissants, etc.) will be delivered at the time you specify.

Or, there is a 24-hour drink station on deck #9, right by the entrance doors to the buffet. Run up there and grab a couple cups and take them back to your room.

I've never heard of anyone taking along their own coffee maker.

Actually, it's not that odd a question. It comes up every so often. Sometimes people ask about it because they're coffee snobs and prefer coffee that's better than what's offered onboard. So, here's a review of the responses you're likely to get.

<table border=0 cellspacing=0><tr valign=top><td><b>1) </b></td><td>Order your coffee before you retire. It is served in a thermal carafe. The coffee will still be reasonably warm when you're ready for that "first cup while the kids are still sleeping."<br><br></td></tr><tr valign=top><td><b>2) </b></td><td>Bring along a non-breakable coffee press. They sell coffee presses (also known as "french presses") at Starbucks and other fine coffee retailers. You'd need to slip out to the Deck 9 beverage station to get hot water for it, but you'd be able to make your own coffee without the fuss/muss of bringing a drip coffee maker.<br><br></td></tr><tr valign=top><td><b>3) </b></td><td>Bring a little four-cup coffee-maker. But be beware that you may get a negative response frome some folks on this board. E.G.... "but you're not allowed to have irons or steamers in the staterooms because of the fire hazard... wouldn't a coffee maker be an equal fire hazard?" or "What kind of snob are you that you can't drink the ship's coffee?"</td></tr></table>

Also... be aware that the pull-down Murphy bed in the Category 4 blocks your access to the verandah, so it may be difficult to enjoy your cup of coffee out there while the kids are still sleeping without climbing over one of the kids.

Go with ordering the carafe...bf drinks at least a pot in the morning and maybe like 3 pots total for the day...this would be easiest for us...just a thought though...

do they charge for carafes? or if we order food is it free?

We ordered the night before and the coffee was very hot and tasted fresh. The really early coffee from deck 9(like before 6 am) was terrible. Must have been there from the night before.

We always preordered our AM coffee and tea the night before. We used it as our morning wake-up call. My husband drinks good old Folgers and he never complained about the coffee. If you are picky about your coffee then bring your own pot and coffee. Kathy

Yep, which is why I think it's RIDICULOUS how they charge so much more for quint in cat 4 than to book 2 rooms cat 5 or lower! It's only a tiny bit of extra space in cat 4 AND it blocks the use of the verandah when the murphy bed is used for the 5th person! This is why we booked 2 staterooms instead of a cat 4 for our family of 5. :)
