We're heading to Disney April/05..I'm a planning nut! I've been as a child, but hubby and daughter have never been. These boards are great places to LEARN! Thank you

I hope you can answer some of my questions.
Can you buy Disney money at the Disney stores in Canada?

Do any of you buy travellers cheques ahead, with "found" money so you don't spend it? Or do you chance the exchange rate right near the time of your trip?

Should I get our passports updated or will birth certs be sufficient?

thanks in advance

Welcome btamh to the DIS and the Canadian board.

You can not buy (I think) at the Canadian Disney stores.

A birth certificate and photo governmnet ID (driver's license) will do. I have a valid passport so I use it.

I have opened a US $ account at my bank..When I have extra 'found' money I make a deposit in the account

If you have any more questions; ask away. We have a very knowledgeable group here.

Hello and welcome.

To answer your questions:

No, unfortunately you can not buy disney money at the stores in Canada.

I have opened a U.S. bank account to put "found money" in. That keeps me from spending it.

I always feel safer getting passports to travel with. I know others just use their birth certificates though.

CdnDisneyNut we must have been typing at the same time but you were a little faster. :D

Sorry for the duplication in answers.

Welcome to the Dis!
Planning a disney vacation is so exciting-I love every minute of it!

You can't buy disney money here in Canada-but you can pick it up at WDW if you like once you are there.

I put funds in my USD account when the exchange is better or if I have rec'd usd from ebay transactions..that way I have somewhat of a stash before we go.

There is a big thread on birth certs/id here if you keep reading ...right now you don't need a passport but they are recommended. Birth Certs, picture id are fine!

So where are you staying on your vacation?

Great minds think the same. Right

Wow, you guys reply fast.

The USD account is a good idea.

I am staying at Orange Lake CC, it's booked and paid for, with help from my parents timeshare exchange.

I have been comparing airfares, just to get an idea of how much $ to put away. I'm considering flying out of Buffalo, if the other family travelling with us is willing. A two hour drive there will save us about 600-700 dollars. Any input on that.

I'll scroll down for the thread on birth certs/passports. I'm leaning towards passports because they are good for five years, (and if hubby has it valid, sometimes it means he gets sent on business trips - which means I can tag along - method to my madness. :)

Hello and welcome to the dis!:wave2:

Welcome to our world:smooth:

You will love OLCC- we just returned and it was great.

I pre plan alot of our meals and when I get extra cash I convert it to US, stick it in an envelope with a title, and then hide it in my Mickey bag.

Having just returned I can say that not once were we asked or told that passports are required or will be required in the future and that is why I do not put out the extra cash for these.

You picked my favorite time of year to go- weather is hot with very little rain and if you are going the second half of April the crowds are lighter.
