Finally talked my DW into retirement on June 30th and have scheduled a long trip down to Florida. We'll be trying Vero Beach for the first time in October for 3 nights starting on the 15th. Then on to the BWV. This will be sandwiched between Hilton Head resort. Looking forward to trying Vero Beach and from the response on this thread I have a feeling there will be many future stays at this resort.

Congrats on the retirement Tomchris Sounds like u have some awesome plans there.........

Woo hoo! I figure if I have to cook, then making my husband grill out ribeyes is a good compromise. If you see a REALLY tall guy with an ENORMOUS plate of ribeyes running across A1A, that's my DH!

Well, after planning to go to VB for many years, it looks like this May it's going to happen! We're going to try and get there for a few days after we visit Portofino and OKW. I've read this thread and the 2007 one and I've gotten lots of great information - thanks!

But, I still have a few questions:
1. I've read about a few OVIRs to avoid (2330-2333), but what are the good OVIRs? I've read about the L-shaped corner rooms - does anyone know the numbers of these rooms?
2. I've read that you have to rent chairs and umbrellas for the beach. Are the chairs and umbrellas at the pool free? Are they first-come, first-served?
3. If you are paying for an inn room, do you get housekeeping every day?
4. Should we be making reservations at Sonya's and Shutter's, or is it easy to get a table around 6:30/7:00 p.m.?
5. Do the inn rooms have VCRs or DVDs?

Yes....I know one of them. We stayed in one several years ago. It's on the 3rd floor and it was room 2312.

We did pay cash for our room and did get mousekeeping every day.

I don't recall making any reservations for Shutters---we ate there twice during our four day stay and I recall a wait of maybe 15 min one night. We have not dined at Sonjas though.

Yes Disneydoogie...those at the pool are free. There is a very limited amount of tables/umbrellas at the pool as I recall....but it's been several years since we've stayed there, so maybe it's different now ?

Rob, horrible update on takeout at Shutters.

On our last night we decided we wanted to get takeout from Shutters (needed an extra couple of sides for the dinner we were cooking). They told DH No, that they don't do "takeout" and the only way to get something to go would be to eat in the restaurant and take leftovers home, or to order room service . I don't know if it was just the particular CM my DH was talking to, or if this is something new, but it definitely was less than magical. As I said to DH, I'm not ordering room service for a couple of baked potatoes.

This is what I really missed at OKW several years ago. We used to be able to get "take out" from Olivia's (full service restaurant).......no more. And OKW doesn't even have resort room service. We use other offsite places for our room service when staying there. I love OKW.....but first the cancellation of the character breakfast at Olivia's........then the cancellation of take out from Olivia's. Disappointing considering all other DVC resorts offer take out or room service from their restaurants. OKW only has Good To Go for takeout which is primarily fast food and they close at 10 pm vs 11 pm for most other DVC resorts.
I know this is a VB thread, but just figured I'd mention a similar change in policy at OKW a few years back.

Actually, in 2006 I walked up to the CM and said we wanted to do a take-out and got the same "we don't do take-out". I said "Oh... are you sure? We've done it in the past". Then another CM stepped up and said to her "yes, we do it".

Hope it is just a case of new CM. I'll test the issue in June if nobody else does before me.
