Vacation Tips for Women! :)

I'm a person who loves skirts in hotter weather, but I NEVER wear a skirt with just underwear underneath, being a cheerleader and gymnast, I wear "spankies" underneath all skirts and dresses.

They're just your basic biker shorts, spandex fabric, comfy, prevent chafing (which was the first reason I started wearing them) and prevent any underwear shots getting in and out of rides, etc.

If you're willing to invest in them, you can get a pair from LuluLemon, and they have a little "pocket" in the front seam, where you can put credit cards, your hotel key, or anything else really valuable, or that might get lost in a bigger pocket, or pickpocketed from a backpack. (this comes in really handy when going out clubbing as well, ID, money, etc, when you're not carrying a bag.)

wow I've never seen the ones with a pocket before, haha. what an interesting/good idea. I did cheerleading too and have tons of spankies/lollipops laying around that I never thought to bring to Disney to wear under skirts

Well here's my 2cents

Hair- I take a shower and pull it up wet, it helps keep me cool, On really hot days I have wet it in the parks. In the evening, I have naturally straight hair so I just blow dry, and pull it back with a large barrette, or scarf ( head band style) or just leave it be( good hair day)

Sunscreen - must be applied before you leave the room. and reapply about every 2 to 3 hrs. Buy a good face sunscreen, and I wear base with sunscreen also. chapstick or Burts bees (my preference)

Clothes - Day - lighter colors tanks, shorts and skorts( for riding rides)
evening - sundresses for special dinner, walking in Epcot
capri's and walking shorts,

Shoes - athletic shoes for day time for rides, never flip flops.( very unsafe with the unpredictable weather)also they make your feet tired ( no crocs just my preference)
evening - sandals with a back,or deck shoes, loafers

Packing - I try to pick a color palette so that I can minimize, extra stuff; shoes, hair accessories makeup ect, I lay everything out a few days before so I know what goes with what. do the same with DH and DD has been programmed for Disney packing.

Purse - 2 one for the parks( small Vera Bradley and one to travel with)

Luggage - Everyone has their own bag, 1 bag for toiletries (sharing), 1 shoe bag(sharing), collapsible cooler, fold able duffel bag for dirty clothes, zip lock baggies small and large( wet bathing, suits open bottles ect...)

Planning - I carry a sheet for each day with ADR's and confirmation numbers and park hours, parade and fire work times.

Other than that I don't let my OCD get in the way:lmao::lmao::lmao:

DearDaisyinDurham: Thank you! I checked it out at Sephora :goodvibes I think that this product is designed for the face. I am ordering it anyways because it sounds like something I would really like. But I am still on the look out for a moisturizing body spray if anyone has info on that !

Thanks Daisy!!!

NP!! I have a BioSpecific Hydrating Body Spray from Yves Rocher that I take & keep in the mini fridge in the room but I couldn't find it on their website. For a facial toning mist I love Aveda. HTH!!

I don't think anyone should wear a skirt to a theme park, you never know what kind of situation you may find yourself in. And what a pain to get in and out of rides wearing on.

Trying to ride the carousel comes to mind... Or crawling into one of the playgrounds to retrieve a child...

If you want something that breathes go to REI or a sporting goods store and get some shorts that aren't cotton. Some have vapor wick which helps to keep your clothes from getting drenched with sweat. I wear these for hiking - and tanks from the same material. They are very cool even on 90+ degree days!

Wow, that's kind of narrow minded. There are many skirts out there made of micro wicking materials and they have built in shorts. You wouldn't know it by looking at them. Golf skirts. Tennis Skirts. Running skirts. Practical, cool and stylish.

This is my new "uniform" i wear to Disney! I usually like the Cargo skirts (without shorts) that are above you knee, and i like to wear a spandex short underneath. This helps with keeping cool, and prevents chaffing. I hate when you wear shorts and they start to creep up on you, so the skirts are awesome! :)

is it weird i was just thinking of the above debate this week? a few weeks back at costco they had avia skirts that had the micro fiber shorts sewn in.... they were great! i bought two for disney. one lady was buying them for golf.

It never would have crossed my mind to pack a tennis skirt! I find them more comfortable (and flattering) than shorts and have a few that don't look super-athletic. Thanks for the suggestion :)

When you go for a beach vacation, there are certain things you want to make sure:
- you would be comfortable in all the activities that you are going to do.
- you still look good in daytime and nighttime, regardless the frying

WOW :surfweb: it took me all night but I finally finished all 42 pages of amazing tips!
:thumbsup2 Thank you ladies :goodvibes

As A person of "above average size" I prefer skorts, long skirts or Bermuda's. I wear soft cotton boxer briefs with cute sayings on the butt under my skirts ;)
and as of yet I have not flashed anyone. :rotfl: My pictures turn out better because I am comfortable, and less self conscious about my appearance on the days when I wear skorts and skirts . This trip I plan to be a little more adventurous, I am packing 2 sundresses :hippie:

I have very sensitive skin and do to metal allergy's I have to be very careful what I put on my skin. I love my B. E.! and I take a very minimal amount with me to the parks. Last year I found a new Bare Minerals product in the store at MCO- SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen for Face and Body. I must say I will not go anywhere without this! The cap comes off, I twist the bottom and the brush comes up I tap the brush onto my face in circular motions and in less than a minute I am done :cool1: They come in several tints to match your skin tone or clear.

Because of my allergy I am unable to wear regular deodorant (aluminum and I really do not get along) so after much searching I have found only a few companies that work for me -my favorite is Lalia deodorant (essence of Norway) - the best thing about this is if I forget to pack it I can swing by the world showcase ;) I do wish I could spray my clothing with deodorant :(

I :lovestruc LUSH so much that I purposely leave room in my bags to stock up at MCO. I am not sure how I can live so close to Canada and still be so far away from a LUSH store :confused3 My favorites: Ocean salt scrub, Lemony Flutter, Bohemian, Sexy Peel, Sandstone, Alkaamar . Sadly their face & hair products do nothing for me.

I have oily acne prone skin and have yet to find a product that really works for me. I have tried everything I have ever heard about with the exception of Accutane- this worked great for my younger sis, but we want to have children within the next 5 years so it is not an option for me. I will keep an eye on this thread for a magic wand :wizard:

I have thin oily hair (yuck)- so very jealous of all the long curly locks talked about on this thread. I have tried everything i can think of including shampoo bars. So far the only thing that works for me are AVEDA Volumizing products.

Some of the things I cannot go to WDW without,

Bandaid Blister Stick- I bring the moleskin and special Bandaids but have never used them.
SHOUT wipes, baby wipes, feminine wipes, and antibacterial wipes :rotfl:
Baby Powder (now I want to try body glide)
nail file and travel clippers

The Diva cup sounds like a great back up plan for an unexpected inconvenience. I have been blessed with a very light period, 3-4 days depending on whether or not it takes a day off in the middle  so it is not a major problem for me as long as I take my Midol Complete :rotfl:

I take Spray sunscreen and Aruba Aloe sunscreen and after sun care. This company is incredible. My DH and I went to Aruba and foolishly I took the sunscreen I had been using at WDW. To make maters worse I had just completed a round of Leviquin 2 weeks prior. I was so happy to have finally gotten over pneumonia in time for our trip (it took 2 months!) that I never thought about how bad I would burn.
Within 1 hour I was burnt to a crisp. The lady at the front desk took one look at me and sent us to the Aruba Aloe store . They sell a burn salve that should really be classified as a magic potion!
www.arubaaloe.com
Their body wash is pretty darn amazing to, it didn't sting or irritate my blisters, and I think it actually helped me to heal faster :thumbsup2

Chapstick- my current favorite is Humanity
www.humanityitems.com
I swear it seems like one application lasts forever :woohoo:

For shoes, I pack my Teva Terri fi's, dressy KEEN black leather sandals- both offer great arch and heal support. Zealand flip flops (for the hotel) and my RYKA walking sneakers.
They are light and comfortable :cloud9: and they are made specifically for Women.
http://ryka.com/

There are some things I always over pack :confused3 can't help it I would rather have too many pairs of underwear than not enough ;)
I bring 2 pairs of reg underwear and one pair of boy short style (for bed time) for each day.
2 regular bra's one more supportive and the other more comfortable and 1 sports bra to sleep in for each day.

I start each day in a more casual outfit with my comfortable bra sunscreen and Tevas or Rykas,-once I have wilted for the day I head back to my room shower and change into something nice with a more supportive bra, slip on my KEENS and put on makeup for possible photo pass pictures and dinner.

Rinse lather repeat :lmao: I know I spend an awful lot of time in the shower 2-3 a day depending on the weather but it is my vacation, and I think showers are Magical ;)

I also make sure to pack a sandwich bags in my purse (for the half of my sandwich at seasons that I may be unable to finish now, or the desert cookie that came with my DP that I just don't have room for. I am a hungry every 3-4 hours gal so this really comes in handy .

I read a few posts back about lack of energy and dehydration. I cannot stress enough how much I love SMART water. I get the DP and use my snack options for bottles of this electrolyte infused elixir and it keeps me well hydrated. I buy it in six packs from my local grocers and if I could I would buy it by the case. I drink regular old tap water through a filter at home, but if I am working out, skating, or walking around the parks I try and load up on as much of this as I can.

 Sorry for the long post

TJMaxx has some really cute golf and tennis skirts for amazing prices right now. Maybe check it out :thumbsup2

I love BE and can't wait to see what products they come out with this year with spf 30 or more :thumbsup2

I too have very fine oily hair. I must wash everyday and if there is any moisture or humidity it goes flat. I've tried so many products to add volumn to no avail. I used to go the perm route, but perms don't last long in my hair either. My dh insisted that I look better in long hair, which meant it ended up in a pony tail or barrett. Finally about 6 months ago I got a short hair cut and the stylist only used a razor to cut it. It added so much depth and it is so easy to care for. It looks great even without styling it. I have had more compliments on my hair over the last 6 months than I have in my entire life. It's fun to have a current, sassy hairdo that looks great and is easy. Google razor haircuts for women and maybe one will strike you.

I'll have to check out the arubaaloe site. We are cruising the western caribbean this summer as well as our WDW trip. We need good sunscreen

Do you wear make up into the parks? We will be taking a lot of pics and I don't want to look dead (as I do without my makeup most of the time). What are your experiences with this?

I wear everything except foundation. Any of them that I have tried (that I am not allergic to) will just slide off. I compensate by using a good bronzer and blush so I look sunkissed and alive.

I put the bronzer in all the places the sun would hit. Top of forehead, top of cheeks, top of nose, angle of chin.

Even better, it is a compact so if I go on a water ride (or 'glow' profusely) I can just pull it out an reapply.

I also wear smudgeproof eyeliner and eyeshadow and waterproof mascara.

One product I highly recommend is Bare Minerals for foundation, blush, etc. I use it every single day and used it last year in Disney and had great success. I never leave the house without it on. It is lightweight and looks unbelievably natural and will not run off like other foundations. I have been using it for years now and will never buy another type of make up product again! It is more expensive than a maybelline, revlon, or similar product but each container is large and lasts for quite a while. Besides it looking great, it is actually GOOD for your skin!

How is the bare minerals on sensitive skin? I have looked at it but my skin is so dry and sensitive to breakouts I hate to spend the money if I cant use it.

My skin has always been prone to breakouts, but BM has not given me any problems. I do moisturize before applying, but I am totally pleased with the results :thumbsup2

I am going to check it out again then. Any discounts available that you know of and want to share? ;)

I don't know of any discounts. I do suggest that you find a local dealer, go in and have them make you up. That way you'll know which colors work best for you and you will be able to figure out if you break out from it. I enjoy going in periodically to try out the new products, I'm getting a pretty good collection since I've been using it for years now.

They offer a discount punch card through the store. They also offer starter kits that seem to be a good travel size! I buy the bigger containers and keep refilling my "travel set" for trips. I agree, you should go in and have them help you pick out the right tone for you. There is a Bare Minerals store inside MCO as well :) I love this because there isn't one near me :( so it's the perfect excuse to visit Orlando every 6 months :rotfl2: oh I know there is a store closer. But do I love saying "but honey I am running out of deodorant (I buy that in Norway at Epcot) , soap (LUSH) and makeup- time to go to WDW" :lmao:

Another tip for Bare Mineral lovers- i have really oily skin sensitive skin- and am very picky about my make up brushes. I have tried Mary kay, the reg Bare Minerals brushes, and a whole host of other brushes that have all ended up in the trash. I LOVE The Body Shop's Mineral make-up brush! Their version of bare minerals sucks IMO but the brushes are SOOO SOFT! Plus it is small and compact, great for travel. It is a little like the Bare Minerals Kabuki brush but it works allot better IMO.

The Body Shop also has a peppermint cooling foot cream foot spray that work wonders on tired sore tootsies.
