Vacation Tips for Women! :)

OK, all you ladies have convinced me I need to check out some Lush products. :cutie:

I have sensitive skin and I can normally only use Ivory Soap because scented products make me itch in a place you don't want to itch. :rolleyes1

Does anyone else have a similar problem? Have you been able to use all natural products like Lush?

I also have oily hair at the roots - are any of the Lush dry shampoos better for oily hair?

Thanks!!!! :goodvibes

Haven't used this particular shampoo but if you call Lush customer service they are super helpful - here's a link to take a look @ the product

I'm also curious about what kind of pants to pack. I have a pair of jeans (that get smaller at the bottom and they look really stupid with sneakers) but I don't want to pack them but I also don't want to buy new pants because I'm losing weight so I feel like it would be a waste of money!

Oh I thought of something!!

I Don't know how many of you are prone to breaking out but I've been using St. Ives Apricot Scrub for blemishes and it's magical! My skin is so smooth after each use and in just 3 days it's so clear!!!!

One of her tips that I used on my last trip was to pack Crystal Light On-the-go packets in my park bag. You can put them in bottled water or in the free water that you can get from the counter service restaurants. It makes the water even more refreshing and my dd thought of it as more of a treat and never asked for soda.

That's a good idea in theory but a lot of the time your water gets warm and it doesn't taste so great!:sad2:

I have a question for you dive cup users! How is it for someone who has never used a tampon?! I'm 21 years old and I've always used pads! Using tampon (just freaks me out!)

A tip about packing clothing, as I haven't seen many of those: give your suitcase contents a "theme" -- and no :sad2:, I don't mean a Disney theme this time! Try to pack outfit pieces that will mix-and-match with each other. If you can pick two or three colours that look great together, you can build a week or two's worth of wardrobe without wearing the same outfit twice! :scared1: Just pick 6 or 7 tops (all in the same colour scheme/family), 2 or 3 pairs of pants/capris/shorts (ALL of which match with ALL of the tops you packed), a light jacket or two (to change your look a bit and keep warm!), and about 2 pairs of shoes! Some of my favourite colour combos to start with:
- turquoise and brown
- coral and brown
- black and white (classic and easy!)
- navy and white
- black and tan (as easy as black and white, but a bit of an updated look)
I DO THIS! For summer it's khaki and white, for winter it's navy and khaki. I have to take two public buses and a ferry to get to the airport, so I don't lug anymore luggage than absolutely necessary!:cool1:

i find that my upper thighs start to get irratated if i wear a skirt.

I am not a large woman either and they tend to rub toegther after awhile, i would not wear a skirt to disney for long periods of time.

wear biker short under it that works or the ones you workout in

I am an avid Diva cup user, so here are my 2 cents....

I think I would need to know why tampons freak you out. I don't like tampons and don't use them unless absolutely necessary, so not liking them does not mean that you won't like the Diva cup. That being said, it does have to be inserted much like a tampon does, so if that bothers you, it might not be ideal for you. I guess I don't want to get too graphic here, but you can always message me if you have questions.

However, it's so convenient and clean feeling that I highly recommend them to just about everyone. I love not having to buy pads/tampons all the time, it's more environmentally friendly, and it's much more comfortable and clean feeling for me. You can also leave them in for a longer time, which is always nice.

A thread I find super awesome! Yay! So I've now become a cetaphil face washing, monistat makeup base wearing fashionista. Haha I wish with the fashionista part. Anyhow, the DivaCup/IUD thing made me wonder why I couldn't use it since I have an IUD. I asked one of the nurses in the department next door in OB/GYN why I couldn't use it. She said she didn't know and so she asked one of the docs and said it could be used with an IUD. The nice thing with the Mirena is I don't get Aunt Flo very often, but it would be nice to use something easier for sure!

In regards to chafing, I found a product called "Body Glide" that I bought before I went backpacking last summer. I have sinced used it several times while wearing skirts and it works fantastically!

It looks like a stick of deodorant and I found it (fairly inexensively) at a camping type store called REI but I've been told it can be found in drug stores as well.

I hope this can help make your trip more comfortable :yay:

Well ladies, I have to say, I'm disappointed............ that I've finally read all 40 pages of posts! I have one word...AWESOME! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: But now I have nothing to read :( Seriously! Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions, some of which I already use and some are new!

I have a couple of my own suggestions. I never leave home without my cream for cold sores. I often get them from being in the sun and or stress (getting packed and getting there).

It is just my DH and me now so I pay attention to how much of the toothpaste in a tube that we use over about the number of days we will be away. When a tube gets to about the right amount of (allowing for a few extra brushings) I replace it and use the part tube to take with us. It is easier than bringing a few of the little travel size and actually costs less.

I use the pre-moistened facial cleansing cloths to remove makeup. However I find I can get away with a half of a cloth to do the same job. So, I pre cut enough to get me through our vacation, again allowing a few extra. I then pack these in a ziploc bag.

For anyone who burns because of medications they are on (or just needs theh extra protection), the best sunscreen to use is Neutrogena Fresh Cooling With Helioplex. It comes in the spray and also a cream in a tube. It comes in various spf. There is even one made for children and babies. My daughter's pediatrician actually recommended it for her 5 month old, when they went to the islands in August.

If you do get sunburned (or if you get a "waxed" and get red) take Ibuprofen. It is an ant-inflammatory and will help greatly.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but will let you know if I remember anything else.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.:thumbsup2

I thought of one more thing I never leave home without!!!! :goodvibes
"Insure" Immune Support. I start taking this about a week before we leave and keep taking it every day we are away. If I don't, I inevitably get there with a cold or take one home with me. It has Echinacea and Goldenseal (which fights a sore throat. I feel the liquid works best, however it doesn't taste great. My husband won't touch it but does take the capsules. If you search e-bay you can find it. I'm not sure about health food stores but I know my Chiropractor also sells it. OH they also make this for children.

I might be starting towards the end of our vacation. My DH thinks I'm completely mental because I made a list of which outfit I will wear each day. It's for a very good reason! :rotfl: The white shorts are worn at the beginning of the week!

hahaha...I thought I was the only one. I made a list of my outfits last yr so it would be easier to pick out oufits ...and not where the wrong shirt w/ the wrong shorts and end up the last couple of day with a whole bunch of clean clothes that don't match. My dbf thought I was seriously losing it!!

Ok I was checking out the lush solid shampoos and conditioner....anyone know how these are for fine hair????

I always get cold sores or even worse, a mouth full of kanker sores while on vacation. Now my Dr. prescribes either Acyclovair or Valtrex (caplets) and either start them before vacation or at the first tingle and I no longer get the cold sore or kanker sores. I wish I had known this 30 years ago. It works for my teenaged son too.

I also take Valtrex before and during my vacation. Have Zovirax cream for topical. Another prevention for canker sores is to swish peroxide in your mouth twice a day every day.

I take Valtrex as well and it works AMAZING. I have gotten cold sores since I was in highschool. Stress, the sun, being overtired and I can count on getting one. I am pretty good at feeling the tingly sensation and knowing when it is coming and I take it then and it never comes out.

So much easier than all that cream, that never really worked very well anyways.........

I do the same thing with my deoderant - then I can just throw it away when it's gone.

makeup / skincare / tanning?
I just wear very light makeup when I go, especially because when I don't I feel like it's caked onto my face. Skincare--USE MOUSTERIZER!!!! It helped my face soooo much! Lastly Tanning--I tend to just get a spray tan before I go because when you're a Michigander like me, you are pale pretty much all year round.

How do you choose clothing to wear / shoes?
I choose what is comfy! My clothes this year will consist of my fav. tees and tanks but I am putting disigns on all of them :) I am also decorating a bunch of my bags and such with the disigns!!! My shoes.....ehhhh.....normally I just wear all flip flops, but I might break down a buy a pair of tennis shoes and wear those.

What are your *essentials* when packing for WDW?
Squirt water bottle fans, ummm, comfy shoes, CAMERA! Cell phone, and an autograph book!

How do you manage your hair? ( that florida humidity and heat is so unforgiving! Speaking of...)
I normally just throw it in a pony tail......or half up half done...just depends on the day.

What are your tips for dealing with the heat?
I pack a bag of ice with a washcloth in it and also a spray fan water bottle and I also freeze a few bottles of water the night before and those all help!

How do you deal when "that time of the month" suprises you on your vacation!?
I've never had that happen! So i'm not sure :)

How do you deal with the men folk / children / even other women!
Hmmm....just don't fight!

How do you plan for your trip?
Oh god.....you do not want to even ask me that question. Over-plan it every time!

How do you save money on your vacation?
Hmm park hopper, pay for water parks seperatley, dining plan, etc.

your strategies for the bus lines and transportation?
Get There Early! We leave for the busses at 7:30 every morning!

what resorts do you choose and why?
Well this time it is Port Orleans Riverside, last was Saratoga Springs, and the other times before that were pop music, animal kingdom lodge, and grand floridian.

I don't think anyone should wear a skirt to a theme park, you never know what kind of situation you may find yourself in. And what a pain to get in and out of rides wearing on. If you want something that breathes go to REI or a sporting goods store and get some shorts that aren't cotton. Some have vapor wick which helps to keep your clothes from getting drenched with sweat. I wear these for hiking - and tanks from the same material. They are very cool even on 90+ degree days!

totally agree, no skirt.
