Using points on Disney propterty, but not DVC

Does anyone know how it works when you need to make a reservation, cannot get a room at a DVC location and want to use your points for another resort on Disney properties?? I know you have to pay the $95.00, but, how do they determine the amount of points you use and where would I find that information?

I think the points charts for the other WDW resorts are located in the blue hardback book you get when you go on the DVC tour (provided you have a current one, I guess). They are listed on dvcmember.com under Member Getaways - DisneyWorld Resorts.

Using DVC points for a non DVC resort is not usually the best use of your points. You can sometimes find a better value through CRO with a AP or other discount.

Plus you can't make a reservation for a non-DVC Disney resort (except for the DL resorts currently) in the last four months of your use year for the current year.
