Would someone tell me how the "use year" works?

It is the date on which your points renew. It has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation. If you own 150n points with an October use year, that means that every October 1, you get a fresh 150 points to use (or bank by certain deadlines) by September 30, of the next calendar year.

You can bank them all up til 1/2 way through the year and then the amount you are allowed to bank goes down as your use year draws to a close.

BUT those banked points have to be used in the next year (i.e. - the max points you can bank and borrow would equal 3 years at one time).

We chose a use year of December because when we go to WDW we travel in December or June. Both of those dates are within the first 6 months for 100% banking. So just in case we need to cancel a reservation 30 days out, we won't lose any of our points.

You can bank up to 100% of your points in the first six months of your use year.

You can bank up to a cumulative total of 50% of your points in the first nine months of your use year. So if you banked 50% or more in the first six months, you would not be able to bank additional points.

You can bank up to a cumulative total of 25% of your points in the first ten months of your use year.

You cannot bank points in the last two months of your use year.

All points banked move to the following use year. You cannot unbank them, nor can you bank them again in DVC. As you make reservations in the following year, the banked points are automatically used before the current year points.

So basically what your saying. If you are able to plan vacations in advance DVC makes sense? How about borrowing?

Yes you can borrow from the next use year into the current for the purpose of making a reservation.
