Use park tickets before vacation package?

Is it still possible to pick up and use park tickets before the first day of a vacation package? With the dates below, how early can the tickets be used?

Aug 20 - 23: Room only reservation
Aug 23+ Vacation package (Free dining, with park hopper tickets)

It used to be three days, but I want to say I've heard on here up to 10 days. Either way, you should be able to obtain them when you check into your room only reservation. You will NOT be able to do any FP+ for those days until you get them at guest services at your resort.
